'A lot of coins were made with the premise that the coins would be emitted quickly so later people could be made serfs.'

insta-mining, stealth mining, dev's wallets, bounty wallets. Agreed.

'1) Hardfork with all of the current coins reduced down to 1/10,000th of a primecoin. This will clean up the richlist within a few weeks and make it have a more fair history'

I'm not sure I understand this. After the reduction, do you go back to the same emission rate as before the reduction?

That is (I think) either you're 'moving the decimal point' on your entire coin, or you're confiscating value.

A lot of coins were made with the premise that the coins would be emitted quickly so later people could be made serfs.

Now it turns out later people aren't interested in being serfs.

The choice is either let the coin disappear or make it a little fair to bring people back.

~

The entire crypto market is much thinner than most people think. The vast majority of the crypto economy is a few thousand people being led by a few dozen people.

It can either be mainstreamed by promoting decent coins or it continues as a scam facade.

Why should most of a coins supply be given quickly to a few people unless the purpose is to scam?

Ta for this insight. I am a Peercoiner. It seems we have good relations with you. XPM has niiiiice support on Frei

Is the XPM Windows wallet unproblematic? Is is 'click and go'?

The last update was almost 4 years ago but there are 40 people on the network https://chainz.cryptoid.info/xpm/#!network

As I recall there was some sort of gangsterish attempt to influence the coin which caused the dev to step back.

I don't live in a place with secure internet so I try not to use coin wallets but last I recall that wallet works.

There is $250 in volume today. Which is tiny, but far from nothing.

Distribution is abysmal.

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/xpm/#!rich

It's hard to interest new people when almost none of the wallets are finding primes, fewer than 40 wallets active today

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/xpm/#!network

and any value added goes to a few unknown mega whales.

Solution is to start a new primecoin with a very slow emission curve, or fork in a way that pushes most of the coin creation into the future.

Celebrities like Satoshi and Vitalik can scam people into ignoring/subsidizing their massive instamine/premine/stash but Sunny wasn't as slick.

The Linux client is still written in Qt4 which is deprecated and isn't even included in most official repositories anymore so I can't install its dependencies. When will it be ported to Qt5?

XPM has two good listings -- Frei and Xeggex (2 pairs)

I see a QT, but haven't tried to set it up.

A way to possibly revive Primecoin.
Distribution is poor and starting from scratch with improvements might help shift the crypto economy away from turdcoins.

1) Hardfork with all of the current coins reduced down to 1/10,000th of a primecoin. This will clean up the richlist within a few weeks and make it have a more fair history https://chainz.cryptoid.info/xpm/#rich

2) Emission slowly should increase as time passes in order to discourage financial predation. That's the opposite of most coins and the big thing that lets gangs hijack turdcoins like bitcoin. Every several years the coin would need to lose a zero or two if emission is increasing, 10 coins would become 1.

3) Have the 'prime number search' be a module within the wallet that anybody can fiddle with i.e., create a new algorithm for. The obvious problem would be validating the primes that were found. The obvious benefit would be new techniques for finding primes. All of these modules should be open source, but maybe pay a small fee to the person who designs the module, for a few hundred blocks.

4) If the 'prime search' module could be replaced with algorithms unrelated to primes and if the process were simple enough for an 'almost graduated high school' crowd, then anybody could clone or fork the coin to develop or search for whatever they want. When more complicated 'sciences' are involved then small gangs would be needed to develop modules that worked on more complicated things than simple prime searches.

This would help jumpstart the ai economy and make people more aware of the difference between fake ai which is software and real ai which is using a network to accelerate a science.

It's a terrible thing to wipe out the value of all the primecoins that exist already but it's probably the only way to move primecoin into the future as a viable coin. Coin squatting, buying up and hoarding coins to sell when the value goes up is the same as domain squatting, except that domain squatters only make money from the wealthy while coin squatters bleed money from everybody.

The downloads at https://primecoin.io/downloads.php still work.

It looks like Sunny started another coin at some point and attracted some kind of harassment or hostility on social media so he stepped back.

The wallets work and there are plenty of nodes.

A person can go to the network tab at https://chainz.cryptoid.info/xpm/#!network and get node lists then open the wallet console to add nodes, but it shouldn't be necessary since the wallet catches nodes on its own

Hi,

I see Sunny has updated the linux version, but no windows version...
Can someone please confirm which version of Linux and Windows wallet i should be using. (with links).
I'm currently testing "primecoin-qt-0.1.5-linux" on Ubuntu 16
On windows 10, i have "primecoin-0.1.5-rc1-win64.zip" which when opened says "v0.16.0.0-4e31bf9ed" "walletversion": 159900

Also, can anyone update the cpu miner to work with xpmforall.org ?
I have tried jhprimeminer and it fails, and can't find any others, all the "mega" and "dropbox" links are well dead.

Thanks
J

Not so long ago I discovered Primecoin (thanks to Uptrennd)
Started mining recently ) (with CPU on server, mostly for testing reason, I don't expect to mine a lot)

Decided to comment here to follow the next updates on Primecoin which will shared on Bitcointalk
