Thoughts on this article? - http://www.coindesk.com/ripple-pledges-lock-14-billion-xrp-cryptocurrency/

'Distributed financial technology firm Ripple is on the verge of locking up billions of dollars worth of its native XRP cryptocurrency inside dozens of smart contracts designed to hold value in escrow until a certain time, or certain conditions are met.'

'Currently, Ripple’s market cap is listed on most tracking sites as about $11bn, based on 38.3bn XRP in circulation. But unlike other cryptocurrencies including bitcoin and ethereum, not all the cryptocurrency is in circulation. In fact, according to Ripple’s own numbers the company owns almost twice the amount in circulation, or 61bn XRP.'

I hope op is ok...
I would like to hear people's opinion on XRP/Ripple.  News, Trends, Concepts, Technical Issues... anything pro or con that might be indicative of it's survival or growth opportunities in actual real world use cases.   Or things that indicate it's failure.

Here is my two cents to start it off, starting with a Disclaimer.
Disclaimer: I have weighted portfolio of Bitcoin (5 - 10%), Ethereum (70 - 80%), XRP/Ripple (10 - 25%). I'm a HODLer, not a Day Trader,a nd reportionments are done rarely based on trends.  My purpose of this post is to try and determine whether a repportionment of Ripple is appropriate.  And I am currently of an equal mind.  33% to lower stake.  33% says stay hte course.  33% says increase shares.  So real certainty here I tell ya!  LOL    Hoping someone will say something here to un-jam my mental logs.

My current facts as "I" see them....

CURRENT PRICE:  Ripple is doing absolutely nothing.  No real motion in any direction except sideways.  Only recent facto that may be contributor is the court case that allowed prior founder (McCaleb) to unload his billions of XRP at a current rate of "0.5% of average daily volume for each day of the week, including weekends and holidays".  So hardly anything of much substance, however, the fact that the price hasn't gone down means that there are at least enough buyers to keep the price even.

NEWS: I keep a very steady eye on Ripple, constantly trolling news, webs, boards for info.  Again - nothing.  Almost a total black hole of current news.  The only recent "news" are name dropping tidbits about SBI Holdings in Asia wanting to use Ripple.  Microsoft Azure being open to Ripple blockchains.  R3CEV hinting at Hyperledger open to Ripple use cases.  Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) running a Ripple Blockchain Trial.  Press Releases about 42% savings to banks using Ripple.   And vague references to Interledger, which is sort of analogous to Hyperledger or Lightening network in a way..... talk, no real world scenarios yet though.  And all of this very hypy-vague.   Just little tidbit trickles of "News", "non-News" actually, that basically says, "Hey, we're alive."

GENERAL THOUGHTS:  I think Ripple/XRP IS still alive, and due to the nature of its business model, is in "secret development" mode.  I mean, you won't see news, until you see news, but whe that news does come - it may be a hard break.  My opinion is that will most likely be up (obviously - I DO own it), but I guess it could be down, or it might even be just a really really slow up if the news is not dramatic enough that other coins (Bitcoin/Ethereum etc) aren't also releasing big news, and thereby suck up all the investment money that might go into Ripple/XRP - thereby blunting the reaction.  However, it could go the other way,a nd we could get good news out of Ripple / bad out of Ethereum/Bitcoin, and the pressure could be exacerbated up.   Also- the whole "premined" aspect doesn't bother me that much.  With all my crypto investments I am looking primarily at actual eventual use case scenarios to determine value.  The 2nd tier money coins (Lite, Dash, Monero etc) are of no interest, and even the Utility coins (Emercoin, Maidsafe, etc) seem a bit too spiky/dodgy and subject to market manipulation/risk to me.

Ripple is obviously a top tier player, but a little lacking in discussion at present.  Thought I'd fire up a topic.

Peace,
- david

I want to share some of my point of view about Ripple (XRP). I liked this coin from the very start I discovered cryptocurrencies. It was one of the real use project silently doing their job. I appreciate why people are hating Ripple. Because of pre-mine, relations with banks, AML/KYC appliance etc. But they do not understand that any state and financial institution isn't willing to lose their control and give all the credits to the mysterious network, mathematical alghoritm etc. Libertarian dreams are not mundane facts. If Bitcoin is revolution in world currency, Ripple is a revolution in a payment system. Just take a look how current payment system works. It takes 2-4 business days to transfer money from USA to Europe and vice versa. It is old and do not apply to the needs of 21st century business. Cross-border payments are in need and such a projects as Ripple could benefit. Interledger is an option but I do not insist that many financial institutions will adopt it. Ripple Labs raised money and they are doing their job. They have enough funds and intelectual force to reach their goals. I do not care that the price is low. I know that it will rise if project succeeds. Certainly they can fail but despite that Ripple is doing somewhat that financial world system lacks today.
Regarding the price I do not expect it goes to the moon. It could swing around the 0.01 cent and stabilize there. Having in mind the max supply of 100,000,000,000 XRP the whole market cap could reach  $1 000 000 000 much lower than Bitcoin has and around the ETH market cap in the future.

XRP will break 0.0002 soon.
*remember my words

well done guys  Smiley

What has happened today and is happening now can only be described as a historic moment. Those who believe this is temporary will soon realized. Ripple is the most heavily funded coin on the market and after years of development the best is yet to come.

I do see the Ripple XRP going well above $ 1 dollar in value in the very short term.

lol classic. its not a heavily funded coin its a heavily funded PROTOCOL. The coin is there for the ride, they make money off selling the protocol to banks

oh really thanks sherlock now I understand they didn't invest any money in developing XRP and today's news which directly impacts the future of the coin positively really has no impact on the rise in value of the XRP coin coin which everybody is buying  Tongue

Heres a good thread all those buying into the 'Market Cap' hype should read. Its not the best way to judge a coins success at all - https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/breaking-news-bitcoin-dominance-50-1919850

Whether market cap is a good way to judge value will not matter at all when/if Ripple surpasses Bitcoins market cap. The news alone will do the pump. All those sheep won't think critical like "oh BTC got surpassed on market cap. I consider buying, but first let me research if market cap is a good way to judge the value of a coin". Grin Grin the idea alone.
They'll all blindly buy and see where they end up.

http://www.coindesk.com/ripple-pledges-lock-14-billion-xrp-cryptocurrency/
The move to voluntarily freeze its own assets in escrow contracts is designed to combat fears that Ripple might flood its booming market with some of the $16bn worth of cryptocurrency it currently stores and that resulted from holding large amounts of its own currency that hasn't been made available to the public.

Specifically, the San Francisco firm has promised to lock-up 88% of those funds, or about $14bn worth, in a series of smart contracts that briefly make 1bn XRP available each month for a period of at least four-and-a-half years.

Well done again Ripple team, im very impressed.

As for price...yes this will now have a huge + impact..esp as we go into a couple of huge events over next ten days and even more next month.
The market will keep growing no matter what...but the supply just halved lol
expect many more + things for XRP as it works its way to #1 and beyond  Smiley

might be a good time to get in, before 20k....once it passes that, it could goto 25k fast..maybe correct a bit around there , then continue the journey to another solar system lol

XRP will come crashing down even faster than its rise, its all a speculative bubble that will burst anytime. I'm sure a lot of people will point out its still going up except what people fail to realize is that the market can stay irrational for quite some time but eventually the fundamentals will take over and a lot of people will be left holding worthless XRP having lost 90% or more of their money.

Go there : https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ripple-xrp-is-a-complete-fraud-get-out-1908676

Here we just try to make some profit

I agree a lot of trolls here are just jealous but don't agree with your attitude. This is a SPECULATION topic, not a "good news show" only.

Yes, sorry if your not one of this guys that claim again and again XRP  is a scam. Indeed It's speculation.
