It is a waste of time and money 💰.
(...)

I know it is pointless if I were to count on making any sats this way. But as mentioned, I already have this VPS running anyway getting bored in between projects, so I pay zero extra money for running ckpool there for a week or two. Also, the hardware that runs NerdMiner_v2 software I actually also got for another project which I will not start for a few weeks as I am awaiting more components delivery. So I just want to play around and learn something in the meantime.

It is a waste of time and money 💰.

Buy an L3+ point it to nicehash.

mine enough btc to rent from nicehash and point it at ckpool.

you would be far more likely to make a block with my method.

I have a NerdMiner_v2. Since OP doesn't want such low hashrate devices connecting to his ckpool (that's completely understandable, no coplaints here on my side), I figured I would try to run my own backend as I have one VPS that is pretty much getting bored and is already running bitcoind.

I compiled OP's solobtc from https://bitbucket.org/ckolivas/ckpool-solo/src/solobtc/ , I have bitcoind configured in server mode and running, ckpool (solobtc) tools is running, my NerdMiner_v2 is connecting and hashing. However, there are some (I hope) minor issues.

Firstly, I see the below messages about failing to set the desired rcvbufsiz, in the ckpool log at logging level 7:

Code:

Oh, and by the way, if OP really doesn't want so low hash rate devices connecting to his ckpool, I would suggest reaching out to authors of the NerdMiner_v2 software here https://github.com/BitMaker-hub/NerdMiner_v2 as ckpool address is a default option there.

He advises against it, he says its a waste of time, he says they use the same amount of resources from a big miner for a small miner. But I also seen him say he will not stop/disable it. Correct me if I'm wrong but it is allowed he is just very clear your wasting power and time. It is still random!

I'm only running one Compac F its about 17Watts at the socket and its being run by a Raspberry PI Zero 2W, which is about 3 watts at the socket so in total approx 20Watts. As a lottery miner thats great, it blends into the background a costs litterally nothing to run, especially given the house is running mostly on solar & battery.

But, yes a real miner you're looking at more than 3000Watts at the socket!
Great choose, I was plan to buy it or rent high rigs for few months(which I choose).
And it's look like I will need up having nothing so take good care of your rigs  Smiley

Yep that's fair. My concern is there's been a resurgence of trying to use equipment that does absurdly low hashrates lately (in the KH range). That's not lottery, it's sheer folly.

I agree anything less than a couple of hundred GH/s is just insanity.

Except that no real mining hardware uses only 20-30W.

I was getting 24T but it's never go up after that so I give up. And now I come back with mindset to ignore the bestever.
All we need is share that greater than bitcoin diff. That's it.

Good luck for everyone.

I just find it interesting that a single low perfomance miner can hit the high numbers, it really does demonstrate the random luck of it all.

I'm happy to see it produce bigger shares even if its not a win, I just find it encouraging.

24T is a really nice hit, I can understand you giving up keeping tabs on it after that without getting a win.

It'd be nice if the pool tracked the last 5 or so biggest shares, like a league table.

I went into lottery/solo mining knowing that its likely never to give a result but mostly because high-cap mining costs too much and given the current diff, its hard to recover costs let alone make a profit.

With lotto mining there's always that chance and for 20-30Watts, its a no brainer!

As the saying goes; Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Good luck!
