YouTube has reinstated hundreds of crypto-currency related channels after admitting it had removed them "in error".

A wave of YouTubers received notifications that their videos were in breach of the platform's terms of service earlier this week.

The move appeared to target smaller channels and publishers that focused on Bitcoin and crypto-currency content.

The Google-owned video sharing platform has since apologised for the mistake.

YouTube said in a statement that it had "made the wrong call" and confirmed that any content mistakenly removed would be restored.

"With the massive volume of videos on our site, sometimes we make the wrong call," it said.

"When it's brought to our attention that a video has been removed mistakenly, we act quickly to reinstate it."

It said there had been no changes to its polices, and insisted there would be "no penalty" to any channels that were affected by the incident.

Despite the apologies, I still think bitcoin video enthusiasts should migrate to decentralised video hosting sites like D tube: https://d.tube/
It's great that they accept their mistake and will restore the channel's that are affected to it. It only means that YouTube is not against to crypto and its good but migrating to the same platform that are not very popular is not that easy because the advertisers will only get a very low volume of audience.

Right now the best option for other platform like D tube is to make sure that they continue to gather audience or customers so we can transfer to them anytime the YouTube will fully ban crypto related channels and videos.

That would be a great idea but it would be a loss for some period of time if these youtubers that have lots of followers will immediately migrate to decentralized video hosting sites since they will start all over again.  Aside from that, there are way more audience in youtube than this not so popular video hosting sites.

indeed there should be a real alternative to youtube, even though this site is an established brand, this monopoly should be shattered.
It is very difficult to beat YouTube, Because this is a very popular media channel all over the world, over the years there have been many similar projects and products like Youtube created but no positive results. As a result, most users around the world remain loyal to YouTube. So I believe Youtube will still be a channel of communication for the cryptocurrency market to grow in the future

To be honest I am very disappointed with what YouTube has done, although in the end YouTube has apologized and acknowledged already
make mistakes. But still such acts are quite painful for some people in the crypt world. Hopefully in the future youtube doesn't make the
same mistakes. It's actually a shame considering youtube is the biggest video platform, making mistakes unnecessary. So from that indeed
there should be a decentralized alternative video platform that can make the community comfortable crypto uses it. And D tube can be another
option for creating crypto content, even though the pay is not as great that youtube gives.

Youtube has purged videos in the past and there's really no stopping the. They have a monopoly on the video uploading market at the moment and the competition isn't even remotely close. They tried to do the same with firearms and ammunition videos after mass shootings in the US and have yet to reverse the ban. The unfortunate reality of that ban was they sequestered the ability to view safe firearm procedures over pressure from gun rights activists. Not sure if this was the same for Bitcoin but it wouldn't surprise me to see Google be anti-cryptocurrency. Can we take them at their word that it was an accident? Eh, maybe.

and they've had other issues with thier automation banning accounts totally incorrectly - not just youtube accounts, GOOGLE accounts. email, all of it, totally without cause, without report or flags even. then there's whole COPPA thing where videos have to be marked "for kids" or "not for kids" and for kids stuff gets no comments and massively reduced ad money - fine on the surface, and the result of a lawsuit they lost, in fact - but their automated systems are flagging things as "for kids" that are very, very NOT for kids...

there really needs to be a viable alternative to youtube... which i know i said before. just... restating the obvious i guess? i don't have any solutions, here.

Correct!
Content creators should realise this can happen again and YouTube might not apologize the next time. There are other decentralised platforms that can be used by them to make money without such stupidity.

The big problem is these decentralized video platforms as alternative to YouTube not one of them is getting good audience even just 5% of what YouTube can provide. YouTube is the king of videos because one can easily get views and maybe also earn some money out of the published content. Decentralized platforms are struggling to connect with their prospective audience and there is no guarantee these platforms can last the test of time and rigorous competition. No wonder then video creators still prefer to use the infrastructure of YouTube because this is where the people and viewers are.

There’s a lot of alternative but still youtube is on top, I also know a project like Buzzshow but it didn’t use it for quiet some time now. They apologize for their mistake and we have to celebrate for that because youtube is still with cryptocurrency, a platform where newbies can learn more and a platform where you can earn money as well.

Right, as much as we like to have some crypto base alternative platform out there, still no one beats youtube in their game right now. If I'm not mistaken, they also flagged a lots of accounts before, but unlike this one, this is a full blanket ban. Although they have admitted and apologise for their mistakes, certain individuals will continue using youtube illegally so we need. them to report if we find something.

The significant bottom line here was youtube admits it already. Let's just move on with this issue. It doesn't affect bitcoin's price somehow with that news. And when that news came out, not all bitcoin related videos were removed as well.

There are so many bitcoin vloggers, investors that are using youtube to promote and to share some tips. And as far as I know, youtube is benefiting from these. It was all cleared now.

Is there any reason someone couldn't use both platforms?

It would be a good way to provide value to decentralized platforms, get extra revenue, help them grow, and over time, delegitimize the major players like Google.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think your argument is flawed.

My argument is definetely not flawed, let's take for example the current 1st Youtuber,Pewdiepie.Would Pewdiepie, who makes $10 million a year bother using another decentralized plateform at the same time as Youtube for some shitcoins? Even if we neglect this fact, the audience matters too, would Pewdiepie bother uploading content to a plateform used mainly by crypto enthousiasts? No. (Funny fact, fyi he even criticized Bitcoin one time in his video as "something who made people lose a lot of money")

My guess is that they unleashed some algorithm that was meant to take down the crypto investment advice videos, but for some reason it has nuked the whole channels - maybe there's some sort of autoban which removes all videos from a channel if it already removed a lot of videos from it.

I think it was the result of autobans that were triggered by mass flagging. Some group claimed responsibility for at least one of the channel removals. I've always wondered how platforms like YouTube deal with coordinated flagging attacks. I guess we found out.

Crypto uploaders should have an option to migrate here or they should since they can re-upload their videos without violating both TOS as long as they own the copyright, but they cannot just leave Youtube, they are very much stable here, and their videos are not only for Crypto users but for those new people coming in to invest.

indeed there should be a real alternative to youtube, even though this site is an established brand, this monopoly should be shattered.

But that would be hard. There might be a decentralized platform but as long as people are going back to YouTube, that platform in the long run will suffer and may stop. The sad thing about this is that there are a lot of platforms to post but most of them are not decentralized.

D Tube is not a "new website".

It's a decentralised video sharing site that is built on top of the Steem blockchain, and has been in existence for three years. And you can earn Steem for sharing your videos (if people think it's good enough to upvote).

It's kind of strange that people are attacking a crypto project because they are addicted to Youtube and their Google bosses.

I agree with you that's a good initiative, but it's not good enough to convince Youtubers to migrate. Youtube makes a good living for most decent popular Youtubers thanks to ads, decentralized platforms like D Tube can never earn you good money like Youtube. At most, you can earn 40% what you earn in Youtube and this without even taking n consideration the volatility of the crypto market and therefore even those earnings aren't guaranteed.People should understand that being Youtuber nowadays ia a job,if you want to replace Youtube, you should offer the same guaranteed earnings or bigger, otherwise it's not worth the risk.

it really amazes me that with all the issues youtube has there hasn't been an actual competitor. like, ok, d.tube has been around for years. anyone use it much? i've never heard of it until today, myself.

not really familiar with that site as well. youtube is very popular to masses. so i guess, they should rectify what has been done because a lot of users are relying on them. youtube is already part of most people's lives around the globe. their influence is immeasurable.
they understand that their impact is not to be questioned here. they will do the necessary things here no doubt.

several projects are already trying to get their own audience but hard to beat YT in terms of popularity

YouTube is becoming pure cancer and is on its way to clear evil, messing with Crypto-related content is no "error" from YT.

Don't believe that for a second, this is crowd social engineering at its best.  Facebook did the exact same during the ICO craze in 2017, and now they're pushing Libra.
Connect the dots...

YouTube was the last standing (high-scale) social network when it came to freedom of speech, until 2017-2018 when they started to endure political assaults and peer pressure from the Silicon Valley toxic environment of political correctness bullshit, which has become increasingly crazy since Trump's election.

First thing they did was starting demonetizing channels for various reasons, then they went full blown PC and started moderating comments and banning users and channels, they even went as far as censoring "search predictions" which used to be fun and useful, and now barely functions anymore.

I don't know how they did it, but the comments section of YouTube just became pure PC censored bullshit within a year, I can't even call a cunt a cunt when she/he's being a cunt on YouTube.
And that happens a LOT.

Their recommendations became full mainstream, even Google as a search engine is now barely usable, the results are engineered so badly and so obviously that's it's almost comical, their political agenda is transparent and can be read through video suggestions and search results.

I ended up using DuckDuckGo, not because I care about my data, but because Google does NOT fulfill its mission anymore as far as I'm concerned, as I'm having an increasingly hard time finding the information I'm looking for.

So, yeah, I'm well aware of alternatives, but they have to reach scale and be truly decentralized.

I don't see that happening in the near future, as YouTube and Google still offers way more than necessary for the common user.

On the bright side, people are getting radically fed up with it, to the point that they started blasting automatic weapons at YouTube headquarters.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YouTube_headquarters_shooting

I'm not advocating for physical violence, but that's willing to occur more and more as these companies use increasing levels of symbolic violence and censorship on a daily basis towards billions of users, so yeah.

Live by the sword...
