Some of the good performers lately are Litecoin, Adda, and Etherium is getting up there. Though it would still be wise for you to check the top coins on the surveys so you would have a better idea in which coins to invest. You have quite a sum in your disposal. So choose wisely and don't place all your eggs in one basket.

Investing 12k in crypto but not knowing what to do, then asking on bitcointalk what to do, is exactly like that example I just shared.

Despite the rising price of BTC, there is still time.
You don't need to jump in now.
Take your time to research what crypto and blockchains are all about, research the market, research individual projects.
Then decide what you will buy.

Some general advice I can give you though, is if you are new, split the 12k into three different coins, with about half of it in btc.
Also, right now is a really bad time to buy cause prices are inflated, in a couple weeks prices should start to dip.

How can I know when prices are low enough to buy/not inflated? Like how can I spot the dip?

I agree with both choices. Litecoin and Waves. Litecoin as one of oldest and most promising coins with active developers and waves with a lot of benefits, great wallet and its platform for ICOs.
I also add Stratis. For sure there will be some announcements which will cause its price to rise very much. The team behind Stratis is working hard.

- You will hold it depending on the amount you like to be happen if you are sure that it will get higher.

It all depends on what you really need. Because there are coins that can be bought and received in the year 200 percent but the risk is average, and there are coins that will give from 1000 but the risks are very large

go to coinmarketcap.com and choose something for you. Please don't follow other people advices, because most of them are just freaks about crypto the own and they will tell you subjective opinion.

Litecoins price has already skyrocketed and if you are not a risk taker the less risky coin to invest is firstly Bitcoin itself and the second one is etherum with long term hold you can maybe triple your money.

There is always the risk of losing everything. Crypto is still in its infancy and it is high volatile. With that said, Id invest in Ethereum for the long run. Maybe another couple alts, but definitely eth as the majority.

But if you are still willing to risk and multiply your investments, start learning independently the coins of TOP 30 and choose to learn by yourself, only in this case you will succeed! Lightcoin is a very promising coin, but I would not put all the money in just one coin, it's a very big risk. Look closely at the Ripple coin,NEM(XEM),Ethereum,MONERO,Dash,BitcoinCash
