ME? Improper? Who wrote that script??? ME?
Anyone who use it will NOT support forrestv by this nice automatic feature.
As said in my original post on this subject this script is tailored for my needs and meant to be edited for p2pcoin's needs. Wasn't it clear enough? Should I have use the troll language, using capslock and several interrogation points?
Lol, if I was in your place I`ll just not paste things like that... Nice idea for a startup/cron anyway Smiley

WTF? WHY? It is only 0.5% by default! You miser!
Because I gave more than these 0.5% of what I earned in direct donations to forrestv, in fact it's around 2-3%. I'll consider a donation of 2% of what you earned with p2pool to forrestv a proper apology for your improper behavior.

I posted a script in this thread that used git to autoupdate p2pool. Including it in the cron jobs of p2pcoin (and any Linux-based install) might be worth it.

For it to work, you must have :
- a p2pool checkout with git in a directory from which p2pool will be run,
- git...
- screen to run p2pool

If anyone's interested and can't find it I'll dig it up.

Yeah, if you can dig that up, let me know.  I'll include it in p2pcoin.
Here it is :
http://pastie.org/4166525

Everything should be self explanatory for anyone familiar with bash scripts and p2pool. It's configured for my needs but should easily be adapted. If you have any question when customizing it for p2pcoin I'd be happy to help.

There is actually a 0.4.3 version that is on the fixed version of p2pool.

http://www.jerviss.org/bitcointalk.org/p2pcoin/

I haven't posted them here because they also have version 0.6.2 of bitcoind, which has problems.  My understanding was that the version of p2pool that was included in 0.4.1 wasn't the version causing problems on the network.  Let me know if I'm wrong about that.  I'll try to spin up a 0.6.99 setup for testing before the weekend too.

P.S.  My 4 nodes of p2pcoin are all running 0.4.3, which has the 3.1 release of p2pool.  I suspect that my nodes represent a decent fraction of all p2pcoin nodes in the world.

I think some of the nodes on the old version might be using p2pcoin or whatever its called. The all in one ISO that is p2pool and cgminer built together.
I think it was designed as a boot and forget system, with no update process automated.

good luck getting them to upgrade unless the coins stop flowing lol

Can someone verify my version even though it doesn't say 3.1?
Only linux build will tell full version, windows ones telling only commit number.

edit:
Win32 binary (no LTC) that shows full version is on my skydive. Win64 will be later this day.

2. why when I stop bitcoind and run bitcoin gui wallet I see 115 confirmations but that mined bit isn't available for 5 more blocks.. more over the most recent one says mined balance isn't available for 117 more blocks?  I understand the 6 confirmations but what is the wait time on 100+ blocks for?
Unlike the centralized pools, which pay you regular send transactions to get your share of the coin, P2Pool does not keep a central wallet to dole out rewards from.

The coin you are receiving from p2pool mining, are generated transactions, just like if you are mining solo.

Generated coin takes more transactions to confirm them in the block chain before they are released.

6 confirmations for sent coins, 120 confirmations for generated coins.

The centralized pools have to wait 120 confirmations for the coins the pool generates, but typically have a stash of already matured coin to draw from for payouts. Either the pool operator has added them in, or the matured coin is from other miners who haven't withdrawn payouts yet.

Anyways, that's why you're seeing more confirmations. Once they have the 120 confirmations, you are left with freshly minted coin nobody else has had in their wallet yet.

Thank you Smoov after reading your post I now remember that info from before pooled mining was the only way to get anything... Thank you for reminding me of the obvious I already should have known hahaha.

I think I can answer number 1... Check p2pool.info for the block which was found, it may have been an orphan. Orphaned blocks will give wallet transactions (on block explorer), but since p2pool didn't actually find the block, the transaction remains unconfirmed.

OK I am not new to Bitcoin mining.. but I am new to P2Pool.... I really understand and like the idea of a decentralized mining pool.  I think it is what bitcoin pool mining should have started out as rather then the other pools out there.  Fact of the matter is right now p2pool is only 220 GH/s compared to say BTC Guild which is running at about 1400 GH/s  So the odds of BTC getting a block before p2pool will plus the fact they are PPS it makes it hard to make the decision to switch if your in it for the coin and not the technology.  So to satisfy my curiosity  I ran a bit of a test run for myself.  I took my 6970 and added it to p2pool for about 48 hours  It averages about 350 MH/s according to speed reports I get from BTC Guild over the last 6 months..... and this page shows (i think I am reading this correctly) the fruits of my labor

http://blockchain.info/address/1DEzdV816gayTFSTSdN96BkT4iLrBhXRkr

Now for my questions....

1. why does the first one have Unconfirmed transaction next to it... does that mean p2pool didn't get that block.. something bad happened on my end?

2. why when I stop bitcoind and run bitcoin gui wallet I see 115 confirmations but that mined bit isn't available for 5 more blocks.. more over the most recent one says mined balance isn't available for 117 more blocks?  I understand the 6 confirmations but what is the wait time on 100+ blocks for?

I am not complaining I am about to add 840 more MH/s to my rigs I just need information...

Thanks for all the help  Keep up the great work p2poolers
