I know of 5000 BTC that will never ever be traced back to silk road. Sad

because someone lost them? In that case it could be argued they are not even bitcoins any more.

Or maybe because you are sitting on them? In that case: are you sure?

If he mined/knows of someone who mined 5000 BTC and never spent them, then he can be sure the coins can't be traced to silk road.

If someone had them, never ever couldn't be guaranteed unless they don't spend them before silk road goes away.  Having coins you can't spend is kind of useless.

(last send transaction was 8/17/2012).

One set of 100,000 was broken into a 60k BTC branch and a 40 BTC branch:
https://blockchain.info/address/1Hcs1e7iaMp1gvm5mypZsqVa6ncpcfiCcm

The 40k Branch, first spinoff:
https://blockchain.info/address/1K7KkP3mCsZUEDT7MuQqDpUgLgUbeLzLCA

Second spinoff:
https://blockchain.info/address/18Hs8cqQXkz8r2yBMLyFgYdCf7oj343w7B

Third:
https://blockchain.info/address/1DASVnie9amHLM7vgiiLTxYEefzx63XTmV

Fourth:
https://blockchain.info/address/192AgengM4FGGuDV8g6giFMWXhrzeGqTXr

Get the idea yet?

Now, move coin into Silk Road and immediately back out. Then look at where your "payment" comes from, go up and down the chain three or four links to get the idea of what is paying you. It's the same payout mechanism, it just rolls around and spits out money. If you bother to take the time to go through the blockchain you'll be able to confirm this is likely Silk Road's money. Some of it coalesces back into large wallets again, some of it does not. It's a great free mixing service, if that's what you truly want out of Silk Road. Given their clientele, I assume that service is necessary, but not what they are coming there for.

It may well end up being that -- just like its cash counterpart having traces of crack -- nearly every Bitcoin will someday have traces back to a Silk Road address in the future. I'm not sure every Bitcoiner will care, but you should ought to know this for the implications it may have.

I think its clear that Micon is a scammer. Last night I was at a table at sealswithclubs.eu with over 50k chips (50btc) and he sat down and took it all within a couple of hours. Straight up ruthless thief. GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK MICON.

LOL. I dislike Micon as much as the next guy. But, umm, he is quite the poker player form what I hear. Did he do something other than win hands to make you believe he was cheating?

Next, I also find it amusing that everyone is assuming that this address belongs to Pirate. In fact, some quick analysis on my part seems to show otherwise. It's most likely Silk Road.

I can do better than that. I can prove it belongs to Silk Road by transactions I moved in there and subsequently out of there, but since anyone can do so without breaking any laws, I'll refrain from going into detail and let someone else do the dirty work of "proving" it. I'll admit I don't really know much about Silk Road, but I was able to at least discern this from the short time I moved coin in and subsequently out.

I really am starting to think that a significant number of Bitcoiners are just remaining comfortably numb regarding the impact and sway that Silk Road has on Bitcoin price. I don't know why, though. Plus, it seems like the ultimate free mixer, they don't charge even a Bitpenny and you can be assured you have completely cleaned your coin. Well, "cleaned" it by at least assuring it can't be tied to your online identity, not really "cleaned" it by separating it from possible association with illegal activity.

I still maintain that it is most likely an MtGox address. I bet if you look at previous MtGox deposits/withdrawlals, you will find it taints MtGox transactions just as much, if not more, than SR transactions. Its impossible to do more analysis until there's more activity (last send transaction was 8/17/2012).

How do you explain dooglus' findings?

Honestly, I'm finding it amusing just how bad most of you are at block chain analysis. "Oh Emm Gee gais!  Someone sent a message to the address! IT MUST BE FROM PIRATE!"

No I think most of us are aware it's being recieved by 1Dky, still worth chatting about though Smiley If the game catches on whoever owns the address will never be short of money for cigarette papers again!

Ignore anything that is sent to this address at this point. It literally means nothing. If we start seeing messages sent from this address, then we can talk.

Exactly what I've been saying.
