Hey guys - I developed a tool that lets you more easily track money flow between both addresses and owners (which are provably grouped addresses belonging to the same entity). I plugged in the address and expanded some of the more interesting transfers - check it out for yourself!  http://blockviewer.com/#/owns/1DkyBEKt5S2GDtv7aQw6rQepAvnsRyHoYM  Click on the nodes to expand them - they are a little tough to click on (I'm working on that).

http://toolongdidntread.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/1DkyBEKt5S2GDtv7aQw6rQepAvnsRyHoYM-sample.png

It's kind of a mess because I expanded too many nodes, granted, but you can download the data files from the API and import them into https://gephi.org/ if you want to do some real analysis.  Check out the link above, or join the discussion thread about this tool here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/announce-blockviewercom-visualize-the-bitcoin-block-chain-103609

I just launched it today, so there are bound to be lots of bugs.  Let me know!

NOTE: The data is about a day old right now - I'm working with my host to get more storage as this database has consumed my limit of 50GB at the moment.  Please check back soon - it will be as updated as blockchain.info as soon as this is resolved.

Has anyone else noticed that recent transactions seem to have binary code hidden in them? Like this one: https://blockchain.info/tx-index/16636098/f6afebf1df6ad0996f91b3efe3eb133f161b133fbf70a83aaff60186f9018038

I don't feel like decoding it right now, but there could be a message in there. There are several such messages in a row.

This was discussed in this very topic, it was people sending TO 1DkyB...

'so long and thanks for all the fish' (my favourite)
'QUICKBITCOINS'
'BTCPANTRY'

it's a joke/advert

Same here, I would go through them all if I had the time lol

1)  I read this entire thread.  Who else assumes we are watching Pirate's wallet here?

I predict you'll start noticing 1DkyBEK behaving quite differently after Aug. 17 than it has in the preceeding months up to Pirate closing shop.

If 1DkyBEK grows at a similar pace in the upcoming months, or eclipses the height of its former glory, the premise of this whole thread has been falsified and I was wrong.

No necessarily. Pirate is still known to co-owns GPUMAX, which could cater for some of the movement. It is furthermore possible that this wallet actually belongs to Silk Road and may even be part of the same conglomerate (Pirate, Dread Pirate Roberts,..?)
So this wallet may stay active even after BS&T has defaulted long ago.

that kid from Carnegie Mellon's article I read about SR estimated 22M USD in sales with about $1.5M in yearly profits at current monthly multiples from a few months ago.  1DkyBEK was built this year to over 600k BTC.  doesn't seem like any other entity makes sense.  This autopsy on this scam is gonna prove it's much bigger than we first thought in early-mid august.

1)  The Aug. 19th price dump correlated to the 100k btc movement from the wallet

2)  the wallet started accruing coin early 2012, when the scam took off

3)  seems like homeboy's scam was huge, the market absorbed the first 1M out of 5M it's gonna have to take on the chin

Well, that's interesting.
I'm not an expert on blockchain transactions and mixing, would be nice to have someone with such knowledge try to understand what's the purpose of these transactions.
I'm still not convinced that shuffling around coin between address is an effective way to launder coins. There will be (are ?) tools to do nice graph analysis on the blockchain which should be able to defeat that.

As for the observed transactions, it would also make sense if it was mtgox. Someone bought a lot of coins during the drop, and cashed them out, forcing mtgox to refill the hot wallet.
The best way to check (without MagicalTux confirmation) would be to correlate it to the ask side of their orderbook (supposing it represent a stable % of all btc deposits, which is not perfect, but should still be ok).

Not so. If so, Mt. Gox is laundering money:

https://blockchain.info/address/1E9k79dLuhfspdEtymzP7vhaYVGFcdfsYs
Follow that 20k.

What is the point of this? As of now, there are 18 different confirmed addresses the 20k transfers to, making small (relatively) deposits on the way. What is going on?
Oh boy, those 20k BTC from earlier are moving like bees with diabetes from one flower to another. I cant even keep track of that money. Looks like when it finally arrives, it will be clean as a whistle.

The 80k BTC are still staying put.

The remaining 80k BTC just set in motion. Laundering in process..

It's not Gox.

I don't see how pirate could make the supposed 10%/week will the coin sitting in this address.
Even if he's running a ponzi, it would only make sense if the total deposits are a lot bigger than this address balance (which I doubt, but yeah still plausible).

Anyway we should soon have the confirmation that it's not pirate stack. Hopefully this shitstorm will be settled in a few weeks

1)  I read this entire thread.  Who else assumes we are watching Pirate's wallet here?

2)  BitcoinMax:  $~150k coins?    + private investors (I heard of 2x 25k coin private + a bunch of 5k 5k 5k 5k 5k 5k ones.  who knows what this adds up to)  + BurtW Pirate bonds + other pirate bonds... are we to think he had 500k coins AFTER all the interest he paid out?  He must have scammed more, when the faucet was cut off it looks like he was owing around $50k USD per day in interest? maybe moar?  Seems like it's at the top end of my early estimates:  if he had 500k coins left after the 1/2 yr of interest, he could have had ~ 1M btc on the books in loans, ~70k/wk in headshot interest payments, it makes sense for him to cut it off now as there is no way he's getting that kind of investment or quelling that kind of withdraws each week.

Just starting to think it's a $10M Ponzi, not a $1M one.

2) Micon, see this:

Interest payments were made electronically (redeposited) but not actually sent out.

1) I assume this is (one of?) Pirate's wallets, and the main "Savings" part of BTCST.

I anticipated ~500K to be the balance of BTCST based on the premise that 1DkyBEK belongs to pirate before pirate himself claimed BTCST to be around 500K.

I predict you'll start noticing 1DkyBEK behaving quite differently after Aug. 17 than it has in the preceeding months up to Pirate closing shop.

The movements of July 17 were at the time unprecedented and would be an outlier, but have also been claimed by pirate himself.

If 1DkyBEK grows at a similar pace in the upcoming months, or eclipses the height of its former glory, the premise of this whole thread has been falsified and I was wrong.

In a few weeks or months, not days, we can make a judgement. I think it's Pirate, if I'm wrong, we'll be able to tell soon enough.

It is QUICK BITCOINS BTCPANTRY.COM

Basically saying that you can make some quick BTC if you sell some baked goods.

Seems like BTCPantry's husband runs a cash to coins service of some sort, or maybe I'm remembering wrong

Stop obsessing about the completely stupid encoded message transactions.  Smiley

Let me return your attention to something interesting instead:

Uh oh, 100k BTC set in motion  Grin This is gonna be a long night Wink

https://blockchain.info/address/1E9k79dLuhfspdEtymzP7vhaYVGFcdfsYs

It seems likely to me that the Really scary 100K transaction of not-so-impending doom from August 19 was not sold,
but instead used to build the 100K BTC, Million Dollar Staircase we now see on Gox:

I have nothing to back this up, other than the fact that again, both the timing and the numbers seem to add up very nicely.

When did the Million Dollar Staircase first pop up?  How many BTCs was it originally built with? (Before the $10.20 spike damaged the lower steps.)

Does the Million Dollar Staircase belong to the owner of 1DkyBEKt5S2GDtv7aQw6rQepAvnsRyHoYM?

PS: If BTCST investors want their Bitcoins back - don't wait around! Buy back a step of the stairs instead!
