Chose XRP. There are obviously big companies behind the project, people say bad things to a project when they don't want small investors to gain from it. You having just 2000XRP is worth almost nothing for now but if the project like Xrapid and SWELL will be working well, you're gonna see big changes in your life. It wouldn't hurt to have Cardano though but for I prefer XRP for short and long term its great to trade with it.
for me it's better to buy or hold xrp because xrp is longterm investment and there is a potential xrp so more investors are buying xrp and hold because xrp is not just falling down the price so it's good to buy and hold xrp because it looks I have the xrp future.

I advise you to divide the investment between these coins, because it is better than investing in just one coin.
If ur friend has some knowledge of crypto i would advise him to give him Ripple, but if he has not knowledge than better to avoid and give some thing else ( i mean not crypto coins) but some good books on crypto, and may be next birthday u can surprise him with some crypto coins as gift. coz holding coins in wallet or on exchanges is not a newbie thing, he might not be well versed with crypto hacks and may lose it. so better first let him gain some knowledge than gift him coins.
I don't think you can go wrong with either. Ripple's XRP use case continues to see worldwide adoption and ADA will release mainnet shortly. Time to buy and hodl in my opinion.

Well, people say ripple isn't cryptocurrency anymore because of it's centralization, but if you want to gift one then go for rippe, it is more stable and reliable.
If you choose between ADA and Ripple, then it seems to me that ADA is a more reliable investment coin than Ripple. But maybe it's worth investing in BTC and not taking chances.
