In 1992 : India Lost to England , then England lost to NZ and rest is history.  Wink so buckle up and pray for Kiwis now Cheesy

Pakistan-Bangladesh's hopes are still alive in the World Cup. Who knows both teams could win their remaining matches with significant margin and England-India could lose their next games, everything is possible in cricket.

Bottom line is England played better cricket than India. Indian middle order failed miserably in this match, so they lost. India's hope was alive when Hardik Pandya was batting, and it's not the first time when our middle order failed, or Dhoni started slow. It happened many times, and every regular in cricketing thread knows that this topic has been discussed here countless times, its package deal for India. Usually, failure of middle-order hurts India, but the first time in history its hurting other teams as well because 4th Semifinalist spot is at stake here.

So I can understand the frustration but calling for Match fixing or losing match deliberately theories Nah..... it's effortless to shout " Match Fixing" or "Blame others" when things are not going on our way. If match-fixing and money is the case in the World Cup, then ICC will opt for India vs Pakistan final not Australia vs England, Period!! You guys should know about that, what kind of money comes in the market when India and Pakistan play against each other. Just Give some credit to English bowlers that they bowled brilliantly on a flat pitch against the Indians.

So, it's early finalization of the 4 teams competing in the semi finals. No doubt the four teams were spectacular and deserved the position according to the game they played and entertainment they provided. England surely is a better team than Bangladesh or Pakistan. I'd  love to see how the Semi finals goes.

England needs to win their final match against New Zealand. If they fail to do that, then a chance opens for either Pakistan or Bangladesh. Sri Lanka seems to be out of contention. Even if they win both their matches, they will finish behind England due to their poor NRR (in case England losses to NZ). Tomorrow's match is going to be crucial for Bangladesh. They need to win against India.

Who else thinks like me that India LOST the match INTENTIONALLY to support England as to join the last 4, so that Pakistan and Bangladesh don't get a chance?

The way India played today's match, it looked like they were not serious at all about the match. They were so relaaaaaxxxxxed..... Please prove I'm wrong with logic about this accusation, maybe I'm not seeing a true fact.

Former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali actually did say in an interview that they would probably do that on purpose to "avoid" Pakistan. So this theory could probably be true.

The funniest thing is, Indians weren't able to hide that they were intentionally losing. The way they played first ten overs of the batting inning, and the way MS Dhoni got strengthless at the end, it proved that they were playing a completely fixed game.

This is against the spirit of cricket, TBH. Plus they still have NOT qualified for the semi-finals, if they somehow (very unlikely, but it's still not impossible) lose to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, they'll be out of the world cup. Roll Eyes

All major sporting events are fixed to a certain degree, yes I agree that India looked bad in this match and yes it did look like they were playing to lose. I was attacked last year for saying that the Champions League final was fixed which it clearly was and I'm glad to see that more people are waking up to this crap as it shouldn't be happening but money now rules over all sports. I also don't like when people say, India had an off day lol because it was easy to see what was going on here. They need England to make the finals as its played in their country and that the Ashes is also coming up soon so I wouldn't be surprised if it will be an England v Australia final with England winning and Australia winning the Ashes or the opposite way around.

I pretty much agree. This has neither happened for the first time nor for the last time. However, "the way" it happened, was literally the first time. Even the commentators had no words for what was going on with MS Dhoni.

If you really wanna fix it, at least make it look real! Wink
The funniest part was when I noticed Dhoni can't even lift the bat and also he was not in a hurry to make 2s 3s - he was taking the runs by walking.

I haven't seen the full match, just saw last 4 overs and I was able to notice something is fishy.

This is one of those rare occasions when England actually won against India. And with the golden era players all retired, Indians have lost interest in Cricket to a huge degree. I know for a fact because a neighbor is Indian and another Pakistani. On every world cup occasion these two teams face off and they smash their TV's because the other team beat them. I am not even kidding. But this year.. nothing. Nothing at all.

I asked the Indian neighbor and he explained the reason to me. There is no passion left in Cricket for Indians as their ""god"" is not playing anymore. Their world cup winning "captain" is just losing his drive and no one is doing the technical fielding like 'Sarav ganguly"" used to... he's supposedly some ex captain or something.

All this talk made me watch the England match. It wasn't even a close contest.

Kohli and Rohit wicket has left India in a difficult situation as run rate is climbing towards 11 . Now some body from here has to stay till end if they have to win  the match else it will be difficult for them to win it as England just require now couple of wickets to restrain  India .

India started really slow and the pressure will build eventually if they do not increase their run rate it will be a huge target to achieve, India would have sent Panth as the opener to chase the total instead of Rahul who always starts slow and with the injury he sustained in the field he went for a duck, hopefully Kohli and Rohit can build a good partnership and increase the run rate eventually to win the match.
If England can win here then they can they have a good chance to qualify for the semis.

I think Indian are trying to stick to Rahul as an opener and maybe not experiment too much towards the last part of the tournament.
A win or lose for England will still keep things very complicated and Englang next match is with New Zealand and they also have to atleast get a single point to grantee their place in playoffs.

I think this world cup is wide open for England, NewZealnad, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

India vs England the tow titans going to finally play against each other and England losing 2 in a row would be down and facing India would be again not that easy. In order to stay in the WC they will have to win this match else it will be very difficult for them.

England have reasonable start as both openers still on and they have 47 runs in first 10 overs look like they are going for 330+ if they want to stay in for last four.

England brought back Roy in their team despite he was not 100% fit. Bairstow has already made a century and still not out. England have crossed 200 with only 2 wickets down and 20 overs still to go. I can see England making a massive total today.  No one expected this type of aggressive batting against quality Indian bowlers.

They could get a high score as expected. 25 to 38th over were the slowest. Not being able to hold some critical wickets at the last overs would hurt England.
India has the potential to easily chase that target but I think they are not so willing to chase up that target. And English team would do their best on fields as it's a final for this tournament for them.

Bairstow out at 111 and what a innings he has played to put England on the top of this match. England are now 205/2 in 32 overs and are on the way to make easily 350 runs in this match. India would find it difficult to chase down this score in this match as chasing is not easy.

With Jason Roy back in the team after the injury they had the best start on a batting pitch and they are posed to score over 350 runs once again, India had an opportunity to review for a wicket when Roy edged to the keeper but Kohli did not went upstairs and that was a big mistake as they are finding it hard to break the opening partnership, Shami bowled really well but there were many inside edge boundaries which was unfortunate. If they cannot take wickets then it will be a difficult run chase even in this pitch.

Afghanistan again was so close to winning this match like against India yet lost this match against Pakistan. OZ outplayed the NZ and this is not a good sign as NZ is strong contender for the WC winners and this put OZ now in the first place.
Pakistan always like to play with fire and the match against Afghanistan showed once again that they are not good at chasing, every time they win the toss they can play freely and make a good score on the board and with the bowling they have, they can defend the total, historically they are not good at playing under pressure, if not for the special innings from Imad Wasim they would have lost here.
Australia steam rolled New Zealand, i expected Australia to win the match considering their strong performances in world cup tournaments and yet again they demonstrated they could handle New Zealand in the big tournaments.
