We all woke up to this shocking trade. If the Mavs had announced they wanted to move on from Dončić, they could have gotten much better pieces in return. But trading away a 25-year-old franchise player who led his team to the Finals last year for a 31-year-old big man? Especially when their frontcourt rotation was already solid? This makes no sense.

It seems like the new owners made this move just to avoid giving Dončić a max contract. From the Mavs' perspective, this trade doesn't look beneficial at all. But for the Lakers, it means securing a new franchise player for the post-LeBron era and skyrocketing merchandise sales. The Lakers are winning big in every way. What the Mavs have done is simply unbelievable.

I didn't find anything meaningful in this trade between Doncic and Davis.  Sad  The most interesting part is that Dallas didn't even tell Doncic about the trade. He literally found out about the trade after it happened.

Why was there such miscommunication between Dallas Mavericks and him? Was their relationship really that bad? But no matter what your player doesn't deserve to learn about his own trade too late...

Now I don't know whether it is good for Lakers for real. Because we don't know how good duo Doncic - LeBron will be. But if we determine a winner side here, I would say it is Lakers of course. Doncic is only 25 years old now.

I think the trade happened because Luka is starting to get injured, he’s overweight, and has a bad attitude. These things don’t age well in the NBA and Luka also had a super max contract looming. By trading him, Dallas doesn’t have to pay a super max contract to an overweight aging premadonna. I also see why the Lakers wanted him now. They’re going to get him long term without having to pay the super max. I think it’s a good trade for both sides.

Maybe they knew the injury of Luka is that serious? Just like in the case of IT when he was with the Celtics uniform, he was their franchise player but then they traded him because they know the extend of his injuries and they are right because after he got traded and then recovered, he was not the same anymore.

Anyway, I do agree that this is really a shocking news and for sure the NBA even the commissioner might be caught off guard by this kind of clandestine trade between the Lakers and the Mavs. It might not yet sink in, specially with the Mavs players and it might be good to hear their thoughts on this trade later.

Possible, but seeing how Luka played the game and what the technology nowadays can offer for him, it's not impossible that he can recover and still play the same way, it's more on future of the team Lakers understand that both AD and LeBron  are nearing to their last season of playing and they need a franchise face to takeover, more on the business side both Lakers and Mavs managements understand how the business works and how they need to play it to make sure that there are profits.

Let's wait for more updates and like you said let see how those players will react to this unexpected trade.

I would guess that nobody would ever even assume or predict or even think this would be remotely a possible deal. We are talking about a situation that is looking like there is a much bigger situation going beyond what we are seeing, it is not just a regular old trade.

I am sure that Dallas just wanted to cut costs, the main talking point of what everyone assumes right now is the luxury tax that would hit them. What does that mean?

Well when Doncic got a super max 345 million five year contract, the same time Kyrie would be free agent, and if they signed both , it would mean they would hit second cap as well, meaning they would pay hundreds of millions of dollars just on luxury tax alone. While it's true that they are not going to make ton of profit from trading Doncic away, it is also important to remember that, this is about 500 million dollars worth of cost that they just cut.

Doncic and his contract plus the second cap on luxury tax combined of course. This is why they made the trade, while it is true that they are not going to make more revenue, the "lost revenue because Doncic is gone" won't be 500+ million I am sure of that.

So they didn't see this as a sports trade, they didn't see this as "oh our team is getting worse", they saw this as a business deal. So for them, if they got worse and lost revenue but saved more than what they lost, then it was a good business deal, as simple as that.

There are more questions than answers though,

a. Why Lakers, why the clandestine trade at night? They could have traded Luka to other teams and get a better deal?
b. The Mavs might have known something that they are willing to trade Luka, I do not buy the conditioning nor not playing defense issues. There could be more. And that reasoning? Is bullshit, you say that he doesn't have conditioning and that cause him to be injury prone like this season, but then got a player that is so fragile and coming from a abdominal strain injury.
c. Luka is their corner stone, a generational talent, and at 25 years old, is still very much in his prime as compare to Davis.
d. No one knows that Luka is available, nor he did request for a trade.
e. Mavs is the one who initiated the trade.

This trade as going to haunt the Mavs, and I think if Mark Cuban is has the power, this trade is not going to happen.

BREAKING: Luka Doncic shockingly traded to the Lakers for Anthony Davis

I didn't see this coming, I'm sure you guys were just as surprised. Which team do you think benefits from this trade? I honestly thought it was fake news at first, but the source is legit. This news has really shocked the NBA world.

Really a huge shocker. No one expect this trade to happen.

Lakers and Mavs create a huge news for that trade they made. Many thought Doncic is a franchise player of Mavs but guess expectations of people didn't happen as he is now going to Lakers.

I really thought earlier that this is a fake news since its somehow impossible that Mavs would let Doncic go, but here it comes they already trade Doncic and moving on. Maybe they have better plans for their team.

Now imagine Doncic x LBJ in Lakers that's really huge. Next game of Lakers is exciting to watch and let see how both stars would blend together.

Yeah, no one see this coming, although the Lakers is on the shopping to help AD in the center spot, we didn't anticipate that he is the one going to be traded. And then on the side of Luka, I mean he is the face of the Mavs, have brought them in the finals, although this season he hasn't play that much because of injuries and so they record suffered although they win some games with Kyrie was shooting hot and everyone was clicking.

So it seems that there are no clear winning here, both teams might got what they wanted and think that their teams will improved. Just sad if you are a fans of Luka to be suddenly gets traded this season and we all know how competitive he is, for sure he will take this personally when he gets to play against his former team.

I didn't see this coming, I guess everyone was really shocked by this news. I’m not sure which team will benefit the most from the trade, but with Luka on board, the Lakers now have a consistent scorer. The question is, where does that leave LeBron? Since LeBron is used to being a ball handler just like Luka, I hope their roles don't clash and that they can work together to boost the team.

On the other hand, Dallas has managed some big wins even with Luka injured, so adding AD, who dominates the paint, seems like a smart move. It looks like Dallas will now focus more on scoring inside, which is really interesting with Davis on the court.

I guess they are now leaning on Kyrie to lead the Mavs since Luka is gone, so it makes sense for them to move. But still though, no one saw it coming, I also read that they are frustrated because Luka doesn't have that defense.

On the other hand, the Mavs has a lot of big men, so I'm seeing that they might used some of them as leverage next, like Gafford to get another great player. For the Lakers, the duo of Lebron and Luka is something that we want to watch.

I cannot believe Luka got traded and I cannot believe AD got traded. Luka is still very young so IMO the Lakers got the better end of this trade, AD is over 30 and might have 4 years left in him.

Why would Dallas make this trade?

Dallas looks like it's hungry for another championship, and it seems with Luka on the team, the ball movement just isn’t clicking. Based on what I’ve seen, the trade could benefit Dallas, provided Davis stays healthy. Rumor has it Davis has been quietly asking for a proper center, but management hasn’t delivered, so maybe he even pushed for a trade behind the scenes.

Now, Dallas is loaded with big men. If they had that lineup during last season's championship run, I think they could even have taken on the Celtics. Davis could easily score 30 to 40 points, and his defense remains elite.

Why would Dallas make this trade?

Because of this reason.

Quote
The Mavericks were motivated to move Doncic due to his constant conditioning concerns, sources told ESPN. There had been significant frustration within the organization about Doncic's lack of discipline regarding his diet and conditioning, which team sources considered a major factor in his injury issues.

Also they believe that defensive players like AD is more helpful to their team that add contributing factor on why they decide to trade Luka to Lakers.

Looks like Mavs and Lakers would became a new rival since for sure Doncic would provably have revenge thoughts on Mavs.

WOAH, this is some of the biggest basketball news I I have ever heard in my life and that's no hyperbole.  I've been around for a few decades myself and I honestly can't remember a trade this big in recent memory.  Not that I can' remember "bigger" trades, like trades involving more players, but involving arguably the best player in the NBA teaming up with another best player in the NBA in LBJ, this should be a lot of fun to watch and might get me back in basketball a bit more.

When I saw it, I was "WTF!!!!" and I looked at a Facebook Page where they're considered as "credible" as they have huge following (Courtside Buzz).
I also thought that it was fake, but digging deeper, it's true.

Who's the winner on this one? TBH, I'm leaning towards the Mavericks on this one. With Davis out on LA, they don't have a legitimate center anymore. Their roster consists of Kleber, Hayes, and some bench players. Yes, the offense around LA increased significantly especially with Luka and Lebron being on the same team, but their defense will significantly get affected on this one. With this, I expect that the Lakers will make some moves days before the deadline to get a reliable center because I don't see both Hayes and Kleber as reliable when it comes to defense. Luka's injured as well so the Lakers will suffer some losses as well.

Some will say "Lakers have won because of Luka-Lebron duo", but let's take note that "Defense wins games" just like Mavericks' GM has said, and the Lakers doesn't have one right now. Nevertheless, this for me is the biggest trade shocker in the past 3-5 years, I guess.

A very fast deal for the MAVS and LA, i thought it was a fake new too but i searched to some website nad its legit.
But i think Luka is not healthy to the fact that it is very concerning in the future.

Lets see the trade for this for the MAVS
AD will not play his true position. Dallas have their Centers at young age.
AD is good PF player than C, which Mavs can provide now. Kyrie is a good PG that can also pass under the basket.
IN addition they will get a first round pick in the future.

While on Lakers, They have now a future face of the NBA if it will stay healthy. A superstar player on LUKA but as the Mavs said.
Defense is the problem top win the Championship. I am an LBJ fan since rookie year, but the Lakers need to make a way on this ang try to trade LBJ too for a brighter LAKERS in the future.
They can still get good players with LBJ. Coz Luka is a play maker and ball handler too, same a the KING.

Holy shit! I knew that the Lakers wanted to get Doncic but I didn’t think it would happen like this. LeBron and Luka together? Oh man I can’t wait to watch them play. Kyrie and AD will be a hell of a pairing as well. I like this trade. Both teams needed to stir things up. Now to read the details…
