ESPN Sources: The Blazers have ended trade talks on guard Damian Lillard and plan to bring him back to training camp for start of the season. The blazers had periodic offseason conversations with the Heat — Lillard’s desired destination — but no traction on a deal materialized.

https://twitter.com/wojzspen/status/1703084100712566962

So it seems that Lillard has been ask to go back to training camp as there are no deal made by the Portland management to his desired destination of Miami Heat. This could impact his performance though, and if I'm not mistaken, there are also reports that he might sit out the rest of the season? We will see what's going to happen on Lillard's case here at the start of the NBA next month.

I have read some days ago that Lillard even refuses to take part of training camp with the Blazers. That of course also means he doesn't want to start or play the regular season.
In my opinion that's really shameful. These players sign contracts and have to be held accountable for that. You can't just refuse to do your job. Next to not getting paid these players should also get extra fines for contract violations I think, otherwise this will never end.

Not showing up is damage to the team. Not only do they not have their best player and therefor it's impossible to compete but also they will lose jersey sales. Which fan on Portland thinks about buying Lillard's jersey if they have to assume he is leaving anyway -> missed sales for the franchise.

It is reported that Jarred Vanderbilt Agree to 4-Year, $48M with the Los Angeles Lakers,

Quote
Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul and agent Erika Ruiz told Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium on Friday that Vanderbilt has agreed to a four-year, $48 million extension with the Lakers.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10089573-lakers-jarred-vanderbilt-agree-to-4-year-48m-contract-ahead-of-2023-nba-season

I think he is one great addition to the Lakers, he has a good defense, specially in their playoff series against the Warriors, he guarded the smaller Steph Curry and he really made him earn his points. And with this, the Lakers seems to be posed to make a run with their solid lineup already.

I agree as Looney will still be on the rotation and if ever Howard will be signed by the Warriors, he will have lesser minutes as Warriors can also do an experiment to play small.

Instead of having Looney or Howard, they can go with Green, that if CP3 will be included with their starting 5,
Chance to see Splash bros with Green, Wiggins and CP3. Small lineup that will focus with good offense to counter
whatever the system of their opponents.
And yet I still believe this will not work out fine.
This is a new roster and I think Draymond Green is way over his head. For a lot of times, a team with so many superstars doesn't work out fine. Take the Lakers and the Miami Heat. Both tried the same strategy but ended up badly.

But, look at what Dallas Mavericks made. Marion, Dirk, Jason Kidd, Terry, and some roleplayers. Chemistry is at the highest level because they know who is the leader of the team. Now, they are breaking chemistry just because they want a super team. It doesn't work. I am repeating it over and over again.a

Yeah, and on the other hand, I read some criticism saying or questioning the Warriors, "Is Dwight Howard the missing pieces for them to win a championship"? My answer will be no, they still need to have a good chemistry inside even if they have the traditional big men in Howard.

There are super teams that work and there are super teams that didn't. So it's really hard to compare them, it's really up how this superstars are going to give up their status, like the DWade and Lebron + Bosh in Miami.

I think everyone is making too much about d Howard.  He was a good piece 10 years ago.  He couldn't land in the NBA last year what is going to make a guy with 20 nba years of mileage on him make a difference for this team.  It's all about steph and klay.

Agent Rich Paul has made 900 million dollars worth of contract this summer. And if we look at just this year, his players will be getting paid a total of 500 million dollars this year as well.

Even if he takes just 3% of that (which I am sure he takes more but lets assume 3% for now) that would make it 15 million a year just on that alone, obviously he helps the players get endorsements and all that, which means that he is getting paid close to 30 million dollars, since shoe deals and such also end up as much as what the salary is for most players (some more, some less). That's some good agent right there, Lebron brought him from nothing and turned him into one of the if not the greatest agent in the league all by his own status.

Oops, something is interesting that has been reported just now. Dwight is in the meeting with the Golden State Warriors. Maybe he's been heard and this is it for his comeback to the NBA. This wall that has been tweeting funnily from Taiwan seems to be serious now about being acquired by the Dub nation.

Just in case this really happens hopefully they will win the championship to help Chris Paul get one. However I'm not sure if Dwight Howard would really contribute to him or the whole organization because let's be honest at this time Howard is far different from his era. Dwight Howard has had two finals appearances and one of them resulted in a championship. He went from losing to the Lakers to winning a championship when he joined the Lakers like Kevin Durant does when losing to Warriors.

In my honest opinion, Dwight will never going to be something of a huge help for the Warriors to get back in the finals, and he'll never going to be the team's starting center, It should be Looney who will start and he is going to be a back up center.
The kind of play he had will not going to be effective in todays NBA game. I hope the Warriors will going to find a gem for them to be relevant again so we can see them again in the finals.

I just saw Shams reporting this as well. I don’t know exactly why Dwight got blackballed from the NBA, but I do have some clues… Anyway, I think he’s still an above average NBA center and I think he would be great on the Warriors. He is what they’re missing. He might serve as a good placeholder while they start getting their offense tuned for Giannis.
Yeah, Dwight still has some prowess and he can stop the other big guy that GSW might face. I'm just happy to see that this could be the entry for his return to the NBA. He's not that bad at all and for sure that he's not going to let this slip and will show what he's got and still can play inside the paint. And this meeting is also a good answer for what's happening with his contract in Taiwan as it was reported that he'll get a pay cut there, so this is just really good and in time.

And I think the experienced too, and so he might be a good addition to the Warriors as they needed a good big man. Yes, the league has been playing small, but I still do believed that a legitimate Center might be a good addition for the Warriors which they have during their championship run.

Dwight being active in Taiwan might be a good deal for him, as he keep his body and mind very active during his stint in their league. So let's see if this will materialized and see Dwight in the Warriors uniform.
It will materialize as soon as both camps will agree to a certain deal and I don't think that it will be a money problem because Dwight have already expressed his words that he wanted to play in the NBA since last year but no teams on the league is willing to give him a contract, even if it's just 1-year deal. But now, the tide has turned because they wanted a legitimate center, and they can see that Dwight is the best man they could have this season. So, let's see what will happen in the few days to come.

I agree, it won't be about the money but it will be about something that they will think is a hurdle along the way. I believe that Dwight Howard wanted to retire soon enough, he just cannot do it these days because he thinks that he is still not finished playing and the only way to do that is to step again in the NBA and play for any team that will give him a chance.

This time, it's with the Golden State Warriors and I'm glad for this news as Dwight deserved to be given a chance again.

Another possibility is if Giannis is willing to adjust with his salary for the sake of another title, which may be far from reality, it's more on
the money side and no longer on any pride or any title in my opinion.

But we never know if he can adjust or if Warriors are also interested in him. Maybe they will adjust or maybe they will be willing to pay
for it and also with the luxury tax obligation.

It will be tough, but we never know how or if it's possible if both camps will agree on something.
That would be a stupid move by Giannis. He is already an MVP and FMVP at the current moment, he is already one of the best, and he already won a title as well. His place at Hall of Fame is already guaranteed, how many title winning MVP's and FMVP's ended up not getting into Hall of Fame before? I am sure none of them ever did.

I think it is quite important to realize that we are going to end up with something that would be a difficult thing in the end. I think the best thing to do would be allowing a situation that would be great to handle on the long term. I hope that it gets to a point where it would have to be something that would be tougher on the money side, he should accept as much money as possible for now.

That all depends to him though, we don't know Giannis that much and that statement of him was already a clue that he is looking forward to another championship title and that is the priority, money comes in second because it will always follow him as long as he can be valuable to any team mainly now that he already proved what he can do in the league. Now, the question that everyone is curious about, will the Milwaukee Bucks do anything about it? Or they will just sit tight again and risk losing Giannis.

Some of the players that have been seen played in the FIBA world cup got their own respective contracts from NBA teams.

Well, it's another international stage and how much more it would be if it's the Paris Olympics next year. There will be more prospect for that tournament and for sure that there are already scouts out there waiting for the talents to show off.

So for me, this is what pushes the Warrior to get a big man, to match up against this player specially in West and Dwight might be a perfect fit for the role.
Many agrees about Dwight as a good addition to the Golden State Warriors as their main big man to face other big men like Jokic.

Dwight is a traditional big man.  Trying to cover a center who plays like a point guard is exactly what they don't need.  Jokic is comfortable playing on the outside where Dwight gets lost on defense.  If Dwight signs it's for a role that plays around 10 minutes or so on the court.  It's not going to be the missing piece to beat denver.

Perhaps it is interesting as why the Warriors wanted to get a big man, not just Dwight Howard though, it has been reported as well that there are several big man who had workouts with the Warriors and Dwight is scheduled for next week so let's see how it goes.

Maybe one reason is that how Dwight performed against Jokic during his stint with the Lakers, and then we have the current MVP in Joel Embiid, and then another big man in the West, AD. So for me, this is what pushes the Warrior to get a big man, to match up against this player specially in West and Dwight might be a perfect fit for the role.

They reflected on their loss last season, where they were heavily dominated in the paint by the Lakers. This put a lot of pressure on them, and it's one of the reasons why their 3-point shooting struggled. In terms of offense, there's no question that the Warriors have it, but since teams are now improving their 3-point shooting to keep up with the Warriors, the team also needs to address their weakness, which is inside defense.

Actually, Looney is a good center for Warriors because he is strong on both offensive and defensive rebounds. He is just lacking the skills on attacking the paint using his big body since he can’t position properly inside while his teammates is more on outside shooting.

The real reason why Warriors got defeated by Lakers is they have low accuracy on 3 points shot compared before while they lack defense. They have no defense before but their offense is their defense that’s why they are winning during their era. As you mention.  All teams is already catch up on their game and Lakers beat them badly even on their 3 points forte.

It would be interesting to see Dwight Howard back in the NBA, perhaps on a different team. If he were to join the Warriors, I think it could greatly benefit them, especially in the paint. I understand that Howard is no longer in his prime, but his experience and attitude as a player could bring a high level of energy to the team. He wouldn't necessarily need to play heavy minutes, as they already have Looney who can consistently do the job. Howard could serve as a valuable backup.

As far as I know, the Warriors have been exploring the possibility of signing a reserve veteran big man for a few weeks now, and it looks like Howard could be a good option for them. The meetings in the Warriors' front office will definitely be very important for Howard because if he really wants to return to the NBA, he should accept all the terms and the role in the team that will be offered to him.

There's no doubt that Howard will have to accept it, it's a veteran's minimum and it's appropriate for him. And with this physically, I think he will be given the task to just take the boards and intimated anyone inside if they are going to penetrate the Warriors lane and play some D.

This is his role when he was with the NBA champions Lakers back then in the bubble and it's quite fun to see him guarding big centers and given them a hard time even though he is no longer in his prime.

Howard understands his role as a new player joining the team. He isn't in his prime anymore, so he won't be in the starting lineup, which is good for him as it will minimize the risk of injury. The problem the Warriors had last season was allowing too many points in the paint. With Howard on the roster, I believe that will be minimized.

This is great news for NBA fans, especially Warriors fans, as they are on a mission for the upcoming season after the disappointment of last season following their championship win.
