Just to clarify, the spike of Covid-19 cases recently is not all about the Omicron virus. There is no indication nor proof that it's because of the new variant so please guys, be careful with the information you are sharing here or outside.

Still, almost 80% are mild and asymptomatic so need to panic or to create assumptions that we are doomed again. Smiley

Its already a clear restrictions from the government about doing face to face sports here in NCR so there’s no way to proceed the game here as long as we stay on alert level 3. If they still have the budget and want to finish the conference as scheduled, maybe playing on a bubble again is the only choice for them let’s just wait for their final announcement regarding this one.

You have to remember that Alert Level 3 is equivalent to General Community Quarantine. The PBA finished the All-Filipino last season under the same restrictions. Professional sports are allowed but as usual, no audience at the live venue.

PBA can proceed. They just need to clarify something and it's expected that we will have an update today. Let's wait then.

Omicron is really big deal and we have to deal with this properly so we will not be affected that much, I understand the situation and we can’t do anything about it, just do your part to be more safe. PBA is already in talk with the LGUs, hopefully they can still continue somewhere else, but if not that’s fine, let’s just hope that this new Alert Level 3 wont last longer.

As per guidelines they can still play here on NCR but on a bubble type only, and since PBA is already in talk with LGUs they might find the place to stay and play, so let’s just hope for the positive news about this one. This is very unfortunate but again its ok, we should follow the restrictions always to avoid further delay for this conference.

We hate that to happen again but let's just see what the government's action regarding the increase of covid-19 cases again.

Just today, this news came in that there's a cancellation of a limited face-to-face classes, and this pretty much gives us an idea of how the government will handle things. This means we are going back to the old format but not a complete lock down for sure.

Limited face-to-face classes in areas under Alert Level 1 and 2 will continue, DepEd says
MANILA, Philippines – The limited face-to-face classes in the country’s capital have been suspended amid rising COVID-19 cases, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on Sunday, January 2.

If the government will be hard in facing this new variant, even we hate to say that another lockdown will take place the chance is always there, according to what the news is saying the spread is really quick though it's not the same in terms of taking lives but still this virus is dangerous especially to our kids and our seniors.

PBA will be affected after this shift to alert level 3, options will be provided and it will be announced by PBA representative.

We, as fans, are just relying on what the update PBA will bring us.. Embarrassed Undecided

As we all know, PBA is again at jeopardy as the IATF shift Manila from the supposed Alert level 2 into Level 3. For reference, in Alert level 3, basketball and any indoor activities are not allowed.

As per PBA Commissioner Marcial, he will talk to IATF on January 3 to see what actions will be done.

I'm just curious about what will happen on the original schedule. This daily pandemic report sucks. They should just allow everything as we are already here. In return, the strict protocol should be applied.

The country can't afford to be in lockdown again.

I agree with you, we can't afford another lockdown again, we don't have a budget already and people will struggle again. The best thing to do now is not to stop the ongoing conference but just to shift it to a bubble format, I'm sure everyone would agree so they can finish it before thinking of the next action of the next conference.

This is so expensive for the PBA, but they have to finish what they have started already.

I don't expect a lockdown either, those face shields requirements are also over, it should not be implemented once again. We are seeing a surge of cases, the government will just eventually close all the entertainment businesses as they usually are the reason why people gathers. This is not really a good news, we started this new year with some disappointed news but here it is, we cannot deny it, let's just hope it will not result to stopping the season or the conference again.

The state of COVID cases in Philippines is increasing every day and people being tensed about the Omicron variant is normal. Situations are very bad here, saving life is a priority than playing games.

If the circumstance demands, necessary steps should be taken as soon as possible. Maybe the federation should take steps like decreasing the capacity of the arena and so and so. All I can do is that I pray that the COVID cases decrease and the games can be played on fluently here  Cry.

I think the government already know that the cases will rise, they maybe did not report it during the holiday season so the business would be able to recover, but now they are back in business and they are reporting the true number of cases, and I believe that the figure reported is even less than the actual cases.

I have that same sentiment. The figure may not be correct knowing how fast this virus can spread according to WHO.

Maybe the government tried to let business owners to catch something during the holiday season, they allow owners to gain decent compensation

but now, everything should be back to normal setup preventing the wide spread of this virus.

We need to be more alert now, doing the same prevention and follow all the safety protocols to lessen the chance of getting this new virus.

Keep safe PBA Peps! Wink

Now we won't be able to enjoy anymore the PBA conference as they might be playing again without an audience or they'll be back in a bubble. I'm sure they will continue this but if the IATF guidelines says that contact sports are not allowed, then they have no choice but to halt the ongoing conference.
This is very unfortunate but really understandable as long as for the safety of the viewers and of course the players, that’s fine since we still have no choice but to follow the protocols and stay on a safer place. Looks like the new surge is about to begin, hopefully not but its better to be safe now since pandemic is not over yet. PBA will surely look for other alternatives to continue the conference, they’ll make this happen.

We need to wait for the final announcement of the PBA governors regarding to this matter.

Bubble set up is expected to prevent players and all the people behind this league from being infected by this new variant.

Nothing is definite yet as to what the PBA would do in this another critical situation but as what has been said in the below statement, Commissioner Marcial is set to talk with representatives from the government to shed light on the matter however I think if ever the PBA resumes it would be back as a "crowd less event" once again.

Quote
The PBA is set to discuss matters with authorities as the league faces uncertainty anew following the capital’s revert to stricter coronavirus measures.
Metro Manila will be placed under Alert Level 3 from January 3 to 16 due to the rise of COVID-19 cases and the risk imposed by the Omicron variant, casting doubts on the resumption of the Governors’ Cup slated on the 5th.
Commissioner Willie Marcial will reach out to the Inter-Agency Task Force, the Games and Amusements Board, and the local government units of where the league is scheduled to hold games to map out their plans better.
“Kakausapin ko pa sila sa January 3 — LGU, GAB, IATF,” he told Tiebreaker Times, Saturday. “Mga a-tres o a-kuwatro, may liwanag na tayo.”

Just the other day, the Philippines recorded less than 500 new cases but just this day, almost 4k cases were recorded. This is very alarming considering that this happened abruptly and the hospitals might be overwhelm if ever the cases will turn severe.

Have read some post in my social media account that all contact sports will be prohibited in NCR, i think PBA will be suspended once again.
Yeah, 4k cases for today and now we're back again at 17k daily cases. That's a quick increase, last time I've seen that it's only 9k and I thought that it's going to be down continuous but didn't, thanks to the Poblacion girl that didn't finish her quarantine and went to a party spreading her omicron variant.
With the latest news that I've seen for PBA, another bubble again without live audience.
To proceed with the game, they don't have any option. NCR will be back to alert level 3 this coming Monday; you said it right. The spread of Omicron is now calling the attention of the government, can't say not to blame that Poblacion lady, but in the back of my mind she should be blamed because of her action.

Actually, this is very saddening news. You know, the drastic hike in the number of cases is very alarming for the country and the game as well.
I think, If the numbers keep on increasing, surely the games will be either postponed or suspended. All I can say is that we should pray for the Philippines including the whole world right now.

PBA are not open to that because they see this as a disadvantage for them, looks like they don’t want people to panic that much about the injury but of course we can’t stop anyone from making such speculation. Nevertheless, maybe we should focus more now on the players that are already playing, this can help you to analyze well on which team to place your bet, don’t focus much on those injuries those are part of the game I believe.
Not knowing who's gonna play or not is a big disadvantage for us sports bettors and frustrating to a basketball fan that wants to watch the PBA live as may be disappointed being in the arena but not seeing the players they wants to watch as they are out because of injury, that is why they have to be transparent with player's injury IMO.
With NCR reverted back to alert level 3, anyone knows what changes the PBA would make to continue this season?
This is alarming TBH and this is happening very quick that there is a chance that the hospitals might not react fast enough to lessen the cases.
I mean researchers already said that Omicron has a faster spreading rate than Delta and we saw what Delta Variant did - a peak of 20,000 cases daily. Add more the fact that the immune protection of the person getting vaccinated decreases if they got the Omicron variant and only increases by booster shots.
I'm thinking that they might enter the bubble again (hope not). Best scenario is that they will decrease the capacity the arena accepts and they will still continue what they are doing. They might  become stricter and those only with booster shots are the ones who can enter the arena but this is in the future since the number of people who got booster shots right now is very low still and most of them are health workers. Hope this quick surge of cases and the alert level 3 of the NCR will not affect the PBA.

I think with the ratio the cases are increasing, they should take necessary steps asap or things could go south in a matter of moments.

You know, Delta variant had about 20k cases a day and as far as I know, Omicron has a faster spread rate which means basically red-alert. Maybe decreasing the arena capacity could be a good start right now.
