Another great big man is added to the SMB lineup.

Brondial signs with SMB after Alaska parting of ways

Quote
IT didn't take long for Rodney Brondial to find a new PBA home.

The unrestricted free agent agreed to a contract with San Miguel, SPIN.ph learned, although terms of the contract were not divulged.

Great Pick up by the SMB I would say, Brondial is a tough player, he can bring some energy with the SMB and he is a good back up when their main big man will rest.
He may not be serve as a back up, he might be the starting players since they already have a solid players even at the bench. Well, SMB knows how to boost their team as well, this can be a big help to them. I wonder how much the contract is, for sure the offer is good that makes Brondial accept the contract right away.
It's SMB right? any players inside this league are hoping to land a job for this franchise, Brondial is lucky as SMB reached out right away and sign him up, maybe he's not going to have that huge minutes inside but it's good enough each time they need to rest their center he can give them enough time to rest.

This kid still young and if SMB able to develop him as their next star, giving him enough time to adjust and learn the system will benefit both him and the team. Roll Eyes Wink

They can postpone it but I'm worried about the imports as they would be doing nothing related to PBA once they stay, and if they go back not sure if they could come back on schedule again. This new variant is really hitting us again, it has disrupted our economy that was slowly recovering, so the PBA has to make the decision the soonest as they can't leave people hanging speculating on a return.
I think its better that the imports its stay here for awhile until the new omicron virus will lesser cases Cause if they go back to the country where they belong I think thats too risky not just they can not go back in the right time when the pba games is back but if they go back to their counrty there a possible that they will get the virus because we all know that the virus is very quickly spreading.

Let's hope that the number of cases next month will not rise again.

COVID-19 cases by next month the barometer for PBA resumption

Quote
When will PBA resume?
Amid the rising threat of COVID-19 cases, the league chieftain said everything else will depend on what the health situation is going to be a month from now, and from there, the Board will decide on the course of action it will take to go on with the games.

“Sana itong February, OK na tayo. Crucial ang Feb. Dapat mag-desisyon, (kung) made-delay pa ba natin ito ng hanggang saan,” said Marcial on Saturday.

We can't expect a return of PBA this month, probably it will be next month or March, if there's no improvement then most likely the conference will be put on halt.
Looks like the case right now is getting worse so there’s no way for PBA to comeback this one. Its either to postponed the whole conference or to extend it, depends on their decision but hopefull we can still them playing even on February, especially their imports made a huge sacrifice as well to come to Philippines to play, hope their VISA can be extended as well.

Great news for SMB, now they have another option. JMF, Tautua, and Brondial, I guess they are not a joke, they'll dominate inside and they also have a lot of outside shooters, it's really a great pick up by SMB and a great choice for Brondial. I guess this is his 3rd team already in his PBA career.

The SMB will only utilize Brondial at its very best in All-Filipino Cup. With imports currently playing, limited playing time as always for the locals.

It's a great choice for him playing in SMB.  Not just a good bonus and perks since Alaska can give it too, but the chance of being a champion is always there when a player chooses to be signed by a big SMB team.

Another good talented player again for SMB. Even we don't like it, they have the capability to sign a good role player whenever they like. It's Brondial's decision after all as a UFA.

That's a fair statement, less work for Brondial here as he is the main man of the team, his minutes will be down but he will be assured of winning as SMB is still the best team especially in the All Filipino Cup. For now, he can practice with his new team since the PBA is still on hold due to the high alerts impose in NCR, and we don't have an idea how long it will stay, so let's keep ourselves updated.

Coach Jeff Cariaso is sentimental on that trade but he mentioned that it's beyond his control.

Clearly, more money was being offered that's why Brondial rejected the Alaska offers. Career first after all as who doesn't want to play on a top company in the league. Another boost on the SMB team...

Brondial is still young and he improve a lot in Alaska compared to his performance with the Magnolia, now he is back again with being a backup big man but he prefer to work in a team where he has a chance to win a champion and get a good long term contract.

They are adding more good players since they know other teams are also doing great on hiring good players, they can’t afford to get behind especially if they still have the budget to look for other players. This is indeed a great player addition, let’s hope for PBA to continue their conference soon so we can see those great players again.

Like what teams are also doing on hiring good players recently? And SMB will never get behind. They are still far one of the best lineups and whole roster in the league, especially in All-Filipino. PBA will surely continue as different from the first postponement where it's just one game were done before the league was shut down, the current league is almost in halfway of the Governor's Cup.

We just don't know when since every day is crucial. Almost all people have coughs and colds and it's an automatic Covid positive lol. From 20,000+ cases before the OCTAngina Research said that it might be double next week.

Shortage of medicines for fever and cough is happening already, people are hoarding it because they believe they could be infected anymore as this virus is a fast-spreading one. I hope the number of deaths will not increase, we can be infected but let's hope we can easily recover and we don't need to go to the hospital as they cannot accommodate anymore.
Flu season is likely to happen on early days of January after the New Year's celebration, so it's actually common to experience flu-like symptoms like coughs and common colds, but what's uncommon is that we're now experiencing Omnicron's havoc so we can't actually know if we are already infected or we're just experiencing flu. Can't blame the people to have fear of it because it can be an automatic covid positive. So, shortage of medicines will happen as people are hoarding it out of fear or hoarding it to sell at a much expensive price.
As for the PBA Governor's Cup, let's just hope that the situation will cool down and a much more good-positive news will happen as lots of people are already affected by this and so that the league will resume its schedules and we watch it again live on scene.

Breaking news:

Japeth Aguilar signed a three-year extension deal with the Gin Kings ending the speculation that he would play in Japan B-league.

In the social media post of Snow Badua, he stated that Japan B-league teams has increased the offer to 30K USD per month for the Gin King's forward to play for them.

With this signing, only Robert Bolick is the one left that speculated to play in Japan which i don't think will happen.

This is a good news for the PBA as the teams has made their move to retain their talent in the Philippines.

https://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/ginebra-signs-japeth-aguilar-to-fresh-three-year-contract-a2244-20220106?ref=home_hybrid_2

Yes, that's a good move from the team owner, securing their talents and not to let them sign another contract with another league.

I'm sure it's a tough decision for the players and their agent if the amount that is being said was true, 1.5M PHP per month is not a small

amount. If I remember it correctly, the max of any stars only ranges from 300PHP-500PHP. Not sure, though, but it won't go to 1M PHP

including all those perks and behind the desk deals.. Roll Eyes

Japeth is not getting any younger so he is just making the right move here, I understand if Bollick will play in B League, he is still young and I'm sure once he comes back to the Philippines the PBA will always be willing to welcome him. Good for Ginebra that Japeth and C. Stand remains loyal.

This isn't easy for us who are expecting to see the conference to resume soon, looks like we are back to the old days were PBA are having a hard time to figure out how to continue operating while the covid-19 cases are increasing fast.
The rate of spreading of Omicron is even faster than the Delta even though the severity of it is lesser than that of Delta. Just this day, there are new 17,220 cases and the positivity rate is around 36.9% which means 1 out of every 3 people who are having their swab test ending up being positive.

For PBA, worst case scenario is they will enter the bubble again which I think might be possible but will the BOD try to go that route knowing that they might have lesser revenues. They can't afford to stop the conference anymore because they started it already and one thing more is that franchises will not allow it. Lets just see how the management will deal with this and I'm pretty sure that they will do everything to at least finish this conference.

Do you think the data is accurate? I'm just curious, why there's no spread last month? and now this spread is very high. I guess our government is not telling the truth, it seems like they're manipulating the data for whatever reason they have and I sense it's not good.
Can't say TBH. I'm just saying what the media is saying. Maybe the government is lying or not we don't know.
I don't want to say that they are manipulating the data either because we already know how fast this Omicron spreads and even though right now we only have 43 cases base on this article, we already have a local transmission meaning the virus is everywhere especially in the NCR.

Whether they are manipulating it or not doesn't matter at least for me because what matters is our safety still. Whether it is 17,000 or 10,000 or even lower, there is still the deadly shitty virus out there. Its very surprising though that the cases tripled in just a span of 2 days.

I'm not surprised because the virus has already spread prior to the restrictions they implemented just recently. The test maybe was just conducted earlier but there are already people who are asymptomatic who are roaming around since last month we are allowed to party already and go to public places.

Since all of this happen and they already see the flaws of the respected agency and the hotels handling this maybe its good for them to do counteractions towards this current issues and I also think that putting at alert level 3 will ease down the spread so hopefully there are no further case will be tally so that we will not see another extension of this.
