I understand that football players and all other athletes who were banned from international competition will suffer and it's not their fault. But I think it would be wrong to let them play like nothing didn't happened.
It's same like not casual Russian people started war, but they will suffer most from all sanctions and falling ruble. But that's consequences of their elected president actions.
Why would it be wrong not to punish people from Russia when it is Russia that is doing this? I mean I always hated that type of "it is Putin, not citizens" type of deal. Yeah sure there are some citizens who dislike this situation, but it is Russian soldiers who are attacking, those are citizens, it is Russians who supported Putin thus far, even if rigged elections, not many out there in the world saying bad things about him all the time.

How many players came out against Putin when playing another nation? Out of fear? Well Ukrainians are getting bombed and still against Putin, I am sure nothing worse could happen to them. So, do not give me players were innocent. All sanctions against Russia from Fifa is welcomed by me.
Totally agree with your opinion because why hate Russian Citizen and banned all Russian team on sport tournament, I think not any coherence between Sport competition and war invasion begin by Putin. I think big mistake made by FIFA if have final decision to banned Russia from world cup play off qualification and Spartak Moscow have out early before competition begin on EUFA Europe League, I think why not FIFA made the same thing with Israel team national country why not banned by FIFA because keep active until right now invasion war to Palestine, still have active on UEFA competition allowing by Israel team.

Our news cannot be trusted 100%, because I also received information that FIFA does not interfere in European politics, which means Russia is not boycotted by FIFA and is allowed to participate like other countries.
However, if Russia is really boycotted by FIFA, this will be an injustice to Russia and other countries such as Palestine.

So far I have read that only Russia has been officially banned by FIFA. Maybe this is an official article from FIFA that you can read.
https://www.fifa.com/tournaments/mens/worldcup/qatar2022/media-releases/fifa-uefa-suspend-russian-clubs-and-national-teams-from-all-competitions

If that's the case, I, as an observer, disagree as well. If you look at the Israeli military aggression they are not prohibited. If you look at this issue it looks like FIFA being a non-neutral institution they have double rules that make them a sports institution that can have a bad reputation with this decision.
In the last14 years Russia breached Olympic Truce thrice. Russia invaded Georgia during 2008 Summer Olympics, Beijing. End of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, and now it's the third time.

National Olympic Committee Urges Sports Bodies
Same as this Russia might've got into more such activities against the rules of FIFA. Till date it has breached the rules of Olympics and that's the reason of taking away Russia from Olympics. Today it is announced that Belarus too no more into Olympics. I'm not sure of it, or else this might be a plan to make way to end the war. In one way it looks like a double rule, because during those wars FIFA should've taken some actions.

Absolutely not fair for the players as they couldn't speak out about the current circumstance. These players  wait 4 years to get an opportunity to make their little glimpse of heaven. However it's somewhat not fair for them but they represent Russia. Anyway, this choice is perfectly represented the dependency of FIFA and UEFA on UN? It would have been exceptional in the event that Ukraine and Russian players standing together in the circle showing they don't need war.

No one deprives athletes of any dreams, no one forbids them to continue doing what they like - playing football. But this is not a competition of clubs, but of national teams that represent specific countries. If these countries have become criminals, then it is absolutely wrong to allow them to interact with normal countries "as if everything is normal." This is a punishment of the country and not the players, I think the players will understand this and perceive it adequately.

fifa has now announced the restrictions against the russian national team:

no international competitions will be played on russian territory and "home" matches will be played on neutral territory and without fans
the russian national team will play as the russian football association
the russian flag and anthem will not be used during matches involving the russian football association

everyone can now make his own opinion about the corrupt fifa Roll Eyes Lips sealed

It's a joke. You will change name and play with no anthem, so that nobody knows you are Russian Cheesy
Why don't they let banned players play under condition that they change their names and teams?
Lost drivers license? Change your name and car and you can keep driving!

I've read that regardless of FIFA's decision Poland will not play against Russia if the war continues.
FIFA doesn't care if Russia is a superpower or not, they want money and no match means no money.

Boycott Russia from football another sanctions taken by FIFA. Rivals national football association won't play Russia as protest, so their qualifying process goes into chaos. FIFA mustn't be engaged with political driven issues rather than relaxation and sports. Sometimes humanity has no boundaries among political and social circles.

I totally agree with your opinion, it is impossible for Russian national team players to want to play without bringing their country, because playing in the world cup is to make the country proud, and being able to bring the trophy back to their country is a great pride for the players, so if you say no there is a national logo, it is not allowed to sing the national anthem, it is a joke, and of course the russian state will not allow all that to happen..

Playing under pressure and ridicule is certainly very distracting, I'm sure even Russian players won't be able to deal with that easily. Everyone must still hope that things will return to normal, so that boycotts from other countries that refuse to play with Russia can be canceled.

This would only happen if Russia seems to invade Ukraine, which would be very good for everyone.
Even after that, I believe that these teams don't want to go to Russia to play, so the games would have to be played on neutral grounds.
It is unfortunate that the three potential opponents of the Russian national team boycotted the match, Poland, the Czech Republic and Sweden, these three countries have boycotted playing with the Russian national team, FIFA has also taken the decision that the Russian national team was officially kicked out by FIFA, it is unfortunate the impact war affects sports but my question is why when Israel invaded Palestine the state of Israel was not kicked out by FIFA in any sport..

Of course, that would never happen because of the possible risks for the players, in time like this, there will be lots of countries who offer their support and they will let them play in their country instead because these guys are not warmongers, they're just a mere athlete who only wants world peace. I am saddened by the news that even the Russian team is banned from playing even though they don't have anything to do with the invasion.

Look, I confess this is an extremely interesting topic and that it could even become another topic for us to discuss.

We have no doubt that this is an extremely delicate subject, because the players are not to blame for Putin's attitudes, but unfortunately professional athletes (soccer and Olympic athletes) will suffer this consequence.

This is extremely painful for a player who has been preparing for 4 years to be able to participate in the Olympics or a World Cup, and that in the end, their efforts were in vain as they will not participate in these major sporting events.

ps: please don't get me wrong or criticize me, I just shared my point of view regarding this, but yes, I don't see any other way to create sanctions against Russia with the atrocities that Putin is doing!

This is another form of punishment, the "target" is Putin, but unfortunately the players will also have to suffer these consequences.

Unfortunately this is an evil that had to be done

I really do feel for the Russian players. I know their feelings are not that important considering the general situation - but World Cup is also something they have been dedicating their lives to reach.

I am for all sanctions against Russia, but I do hope that the Russian players will be able to play under a different flag/in a different kits - disconnected from Russia as a country.
Very sad with war invasion and now all competition on Russia have been banned, last announcement when FIFA have disqualify Russia on world cup play off round against with Poland. I think decision made by FIFA looks most controversial and not any connected between Russian football and invasion war made by their president, looks FIFA have new way how to make it fair like giving chance keep running World Cup play off round but have neutral place for match attention not have to use on Russia stadium.

OK.. Russia after one invasion is banned from sports. But the United States has done that dozens of times in the last few decades and no one has the courage to do something similar to them. I don't think that this will result in anything good. Already Russia and China are trying to build a parallel economy. The sanctions imposed against them would just mean that corrupt oligarchs from these countries won't be able to move their dirty money to tax havens in the west. This will negatively impact the western nations more than Russia.
This is exactly what I am thinking as well. There is a dertain kind of Western hypocrysy, especially when it comes to Russia. I wish the reactions were this harsh back then when the wars against Serbia, Iraq or Syria were fought.
Taking away a final is one thing, but completely disqualifying teams in a running tournament is another. Now RB Leipzig doesn't have to play and advances to the next round as the Russian teams has been disqualified  Shocked
Also Poland doesn't have to play Russia in the qualifications and now have very good chances to qualify... crazy times.

I think Russia should be disqualified from the 2022 world cup. They attacked Ukraine in front of the eyes of the world and there must be a response. Although the disquafily from the World Cup does not look nice, Russia should be reacted somehow. If this punishment happens, Russian football players will not be punished, the Russian football committee will be punished. I know how friendly Russian people are. One wrong decision does not change this fact.
The situation has became unsustainable for Russia in sports scene. The world wants to send them a strong message of "shame on you".

I just feel sorry for russian people who don't support Putin's actions, but still have to pay the price for it, including the russian soccer player Fedor Smolov who has spoken against the war recently.

Undoubtedly, the biggest event of recent times in the world was Russia's invasion of Ukraine.  Banning Russian teams from sports competitions is considered a sanction for Russia.  The elimination of the Russian national football team from the World Cup, and the decision of FIFA and UEFA, that there will be no Russian team in the European cups, will also be important sanctions.

Yes, it's already confirmed offcially. And I think it's only right decion in this situation. Russia should be isolated from all international sports. You simply can't act like nothing didn't happened. Some will say - don't mix sports and politics. Sorry, but it's not politics. It's war.

I am totally against any kind of war but I feel bad for Russian athletes they didn’t chose war, and given a vote they would be totally against it, and in the long run hopefully they’ll be allowed back because there’s only one person to blame for this madness. Lastly do you’ll feel that banning Russia will have any impact on Putin mind, because I don’t remember Russia being a super strong team in this competition, so let’s see if he decides to end the war in exchange for this ban lifted.

And will Russia actually be expelled to participate in the World Cup? is this real or just rumours?

Do you believe that in the future other sports and players will be banned from world competitions!!? It is possible?

Euh just like that? From a player to a staff member in a day? It is a little bit exaggerated imo, he can help juniors but I think he can't do the same with seniors..
AFAIK to be a coach he has to get some certifications from FIFA before.

You certainly cannot be the head coach, but you can be part of the rest of the technical team or staff that accompany the team.
From what the news indicates, it only remains to define in what role he will be in Qatar. In other words, he still doesn't know what he's going to do. Will be there...

Oh Yes! That is the first news I read in my local newspaper. And I welcome the decision of the Polish Captain – Robert Lewandowskf, I saw his tweet on Friday that he will consult his team and they welcomed their federation move.
I liked reading when he said The Russian footballers are not responsible for this, but they cannot pretend nothing has happened. And that they cannot imagine playing a match with the Russian national team when they are armed with aggression in Ukraine continues. Russia is going to face serious consequences – may the war end soon.
