@KTChampions, This is true. Portugal does have decent players, but not on the same level of players that teams like France, Germany, Belgium have. Ronaldo alone can only do much for them. Just have a look at the France team right now. Or the Belgium team. They are stacked with star players. Not that Portugal doesn't have star players, but a lot less than these teams. So finishing third in the Euro 21 group stage is not that bad as there were teams like France and Germany in the group.

I would assume that Ronaldo is not the key here anymore. I mean yeah he is still the best player on that team if you ask me but I do not believe that they are dependent on him that much anymore. If a team is not good enough and Ronaldo is the only one that is good and he has to carry a team, he is not at the level where he used to and can't carry his team to a lot of wins all by himself. Yes, he had a hattrick but we all saw what kind it was, mostly penalties and that is why he got so many. Portugal overall still seems better than Serbia, of course with Ronaldo on it they look even better but even without him I would have put them head to head and with him Portugal has a clear advantage.

I agree, Ronaldo isn't longer old and has no energy to make moves that he used to do a few years ago.
However, he's still a leader for the entire team, just the fact that he's on the field and with his experience guiding and motivating the other players ends up making a big difference.
You can't underestimate that.
