This is a good idea I have 323 merits still sitting I will go back to people I gave 1 merit and bump them.

It seems like you are taking theymos words that he would rather you use all of your smerit than only a few of it each month. Would you care to tell us how much smerit you get a month?

According to what he said, it seems to me like he did it manually. He probably just visited his sent merit summary page. Clicked on each link and sent merit

Sorry to bump up this thread, but I got here (again) because of referenced on another post.
How did you send the merits?
1. Some kind of script? Fully automated?
2. Did you prepare the transactions in a text file, and then copied in the browser to actually merit?
3. Did you open 250 tabs in your browser?
Just a little bit curious.
I could easily do number 2, so i guess you went with the fully automated process.

I've got a big stockpile of personal merit right now and might go do the same. It seems that I get merit in bursts for certain posts rather than having them come in steady. Probably because I don't post all that often and generally at least attempt to make one informative post per week which I think will be appreciated by the community and would benefit the community.
I've got around 20 sMerit right now which I think I need to go and empty! I was one of the 250 that you merited too so thanks!

The moment I received merit from you for an old post you have previously merited I was surprised I thought it was a bug or something and had to check you merit history and saw you did the same thing to everyone else. P.S: I think I'm one of the 250 people you've chosen to Merit since I received a Merit from you for quite an old post.
I also noticed that, I was thinking back earlier for I have seen that my Merits has been gone to 161, whenever I get one I always check who gave me that and for what post of mine, as I looked into my Merit history it was DdmrDdmr giving Merit to my Activity Tips on Ranking again.
Anyways thanks, only 89 left before I got to the next League.

Yeah, I also never received 1 Merit from Vod maybe the lowest is 2 or 3. Even if it's just lucky troll.

and I find I actively have to refrain from meriting good posts by users who don't "need" the merit like suchmoon, The Pharmacist, LoyceV, etc, so I still have some available to send to non legendary members who deserve to rank up.
I am not sure if i should use the word need, but i am pretty certain these guys would wan't more merit ( each have their own purpose), it's never enough, the more you get the more you want, it's like drugs for self-achievements.
but to be honest,i most of the time tend to search for low rank members to merit too

I was very surprised when I saw today that you dug a post that I wrote a few months ago and rewarded it with merit (especially that it was quietly drowning in the depths of the meta section ;-)).

All five of those users are indeed merit sources, which you can see by comparing how much merit they have sent (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=topsendat) and how much they have earned. My merit source allocation is very low*, and I find I actively have to refrain from meriting good posts by users who don't "need" the merit like suchmoon, The Pharmacist, LoyceV, etc, so I still have some available to send to non legendary members who deserve to rank up.
*Is it cheeky to ask for boost already? I've only been a merit source for a month, but I used up all my source sMerits in about 6 days, and now I'm on my last 1 or 2 of my own sMerits too.

I came to consider multiple criteria:
- LMFR (last merited by me, first re-merited)
- FMFR (first merited by me, first re-merited)
- Proportional to the amount of sMerit I’ve sent in the past to each profile
- Proportional to the amount of sMerit TXs I’ve sent in the past to each profile
- Flat merit per merited profile.
I wish I was this much of a math-head, but when it comes to giving merits it never seems to need that much analysis. A post either reaches the threshold of being worthy of merit or it doesn't (in my mind at least), though I could exactly describe how a post meets that threshold. Anyway, good for you for spreading the love around. If you've got that many sMerits and are a source, it's definitely best if you get rid of them. Seems like there's not too many members ranking up lately, and I'm pretty sure at least some of them deserve to but are being held up by the merit requirement.- LMFR (last merited by me, first re-merited)

Sounds complicated, i simply merit posts based on the quality and member rank (i set lower quality standard for lower rank)
Exactly. I even agree about the bar being lowered for the lower ranks, although I haven't lowered it too much. When it comes to deciding whether to merit a Newbie or Jr. Member who hasn't earned any merits previously, I'm always reluctant and have to make sure they're not plagiarizing or putting all their effort into a single 'merit-bait' post, after which they'll resume a life of shitposting. Above Jr. Member rank, I tend to do less checking and there's less hesitation on my part. I just wish there were more good posts being made by those lower-ranked members. Every time I go looking for the buried nuggets, I end up finding other crap instead and I get extremely sidetracked.

It's best if sources try to exhaust their source allocations, even if it means giving posts higher amounts than is typical. If you have 150 source merit and you only see 3 merit-worthy posts in a month, then I'd rather you over-give each of them 50 merit than let the merit expire. That way there are more people capable of sending merit, and the "merit economy" is less top-down.

This is an eccentric but efficient way to offload available smerits. And as you've previously merited the posts in question, you are sure it is up to your standards of deserving posts. And depending on how many merits users has racked up in the interval, you can check the growth of the account.
For me it is at least the gap of more than 174+, because I was member having less than 100 Merits at that time.

Otherwise, your inspiration towards low ranked members doesn't go unnoticed.
During the time I have been posting here through my newbie rank to member rank. I couldn't help but recognize that the following members (am not sure whether they are all merit sources) take their time patrol through a majority of boards and are not so stingy when it comes to awarding merit even to lower ranked members so long as the post is good.

DdmrDdmr is doing the same thing here, just retroactively.
If I had to do something like this I would probably sort the list by how many merits the recipients have sent out and reward most active ones first.
