Short update:

Site is under ddos, traffic was around 40Mbit/s, so mysql crashed -> getwork server crashed too. I solved it by shutting down the site, so mining is working again. I'm a bit hurry right now, so this solution must be enough for this day, I'm very sorry for troubles. I'll try to fix site (maybe some requests/s limiter per IP?) afternoon UTC...

People are idiots...

That's just lame.  Why someone would ddos a pool.. I guess I'm not ambitious enough to understand.  I'll switch my miners back and cash out at deepbit soon.

I noticed that the total pool hash rate stayed about the same for the 2-3 hours we were completely down. My theory: Mystery Miner DDOSed the largest pool to eliminate competition. Sad What a bastard!

Wish we had proof of that theory. Cause if we did maybe we should DDoS him. Vigilante justice!

My theory - someone is planning a pool-hopping attack, and wants to draw miners away from pools which are resistant to it.

Thanks for the update slush. I for one appreciate the work you do, and I think it is sad that some lowlifes have nothing better to do than to DDoS your site Sad

The request limiter idea sounds like a good one to me. Maybe even have some method of banning abusive IPs?

Somebody had a little script that would automatically switch to another pool if the main pool was down for  some time ...

deepbit.net is almost as big as slush ...

Opportunity cost of sitting idle is too great.  I switched to help make something while I wait for Slush's pool to get up and running again.

I'm sure many others did the same.

Oh yeah no doubt. As they say, money is a bitch, she knows no loyalty :p Well that's what I say anyways even if "they" don't Wink lol

server still down. 0 Ghash/sec no getworks!!!   When will it be fixed?  I away from my rigs: will I need to restart the mining program or will it automatically reconnect?Huh??

It should automatically reconnect as long as the mining program is still running. I know this happens for sure with poclbm-gui.

Try to install VNC if you want to remotely start/stop your miners.

RDP won't work BTW.

Hmm I wonder if the server has been under attack. The reason I'm thinking this is that the number of connected clients spiked significantly.

Slush how much do you make per month off your pool?

Slush makes 2% (1 btc) for each block solved. Count the blocks solved and you have the fee income.

Bitcoind on webserver crashed 15 minutes after my last check and I was on the trip in the meantime. Restarted, running again. Looks like mndrix has no troubles with last patch solving deadlocks, so I'll run it on pool server soon, too.

Everything is back up, looks like no work was lost either Smiley

Also looks like the variance is being less bitchy recently as well Cheesy
