Good to see a lot of users contributing so positively to this topic. We never talk about Gambling addiction on this child board nor on the main board. After reading your replies I did see a lot of you agreeing to the 5 behavioural signs mentioned on the OP. The fact is that we never accept we are addicted. We only find excuses that we are not. Stll, we go on and gamble that according to me is the biggest sign of our addiction. Already a lot of lives have been destroyed to this addiction. It is time we rethink what is the best option as a Gambling addict what is the best option for us. Reach out to the nearest anti addiction service if you want to live a happy life.

The five mentioned behavioural signs that suggested a gambler is addicted, I think pretty much summarizes it all..
And for me,  I think it is pretty much easy for a gambling addict to know that he or she is addicted, and addict who doesn't know that he or she is addicted pretty much has to serious problems..

And the first of it being that, it takes knowing and agreeing that I am addicted to gambling, before I move on to the second stage which is embarking on the journey of breaking free from the addiction.

For a person to know what he or she is addicted even without being told, is pretty easy, when you find yourself spending on gambling, money you know you are not supposed to play gambling with, and you just can't hold your self back, or you struggle to hold yourself from spending that money on gambling, it's a pretty and easy sign of addiction.

then you can suggest some, that can be added to this topic.
There's a young guy who stay with me a couple of days because he was in the city for an event. I noticed very weird and strange behaviour from him which was that he liked to bet money on every situation even outside the betting or gambling platform. He can ask that you both bet on the first colour of car that will drive by the house, he can ask that you both bet on the gender of the first runner that we will see in the park, and other kind of strange bets. This behaviour is a sign.

The 4th one I do not agree with. I know some people who lie about their gambling activities because they don't want to get in trouble either due to their nature of work or to their family. Some are literally just trying to hide their gambling activities even though they play for fun on a handful of occasions or just to kill time and that doesn't mean that they are addicted. The rest of the list, well, it's highly possible that these guys who possess these behavior will turn out as addicts as it point towards one common theme: lack of self-control.
Not many are honest in their gambling activities, let alone to family or friends of co-workers, but that's also not a reason that can be said to be an addict, after all there are two categories of addicts, light addicts and heavy addicts, usually heavy addicts are more difficult to recover because they really don't care about the people around them, let alone advice, so they continue to play gambling spending money.

If I look at most of the lists that are written like light addicts, you can't be called addicts and most people don't want to be honest because they just want to play for fun for themselves and don't want many people to know about their fun activities, but even so, usually light addicts are still can still control themselves, except for heavy addicts.

So I asked myself what behaviour would suggest that an individual is a problem gambler. Did some research and found many behaviour that suggest an individual is struggling with gambling addiction. Out of those I found the following five behaviours to be most common ones in a problem gambler.

  • Preoccupation with gambling.
  • The urge to increase wagers to achieve the same level of excitement.
  • Having difficulty in controlling, cutting back, or stopping gambling despite several attempts.
  • Lying about gambling activities.
  • Borrowing money to gamble.

Lying about our gambling activities doesn't necessary mean we're addicted to gambling, some of us might be family or community that don't take gamblers as serious people and for you to maintain your reputation in the society you have to lie about your whereabouts.

Borrowing of money to gamble is the worst behavior of a gambling addict, borrowing money to gamble means you're not ready to stop playing even when the best are not favoring you. Instead of borrowing we should set budget for ourselves so we don't over gamble.

The behavior aren't the same for all individuals that's havung an addiction problem but they have similar bad behavior that if they can control that behavior then they'll be closer to stopping their gambling addiction.
I think as long as we can take care of ourselves while gambling, we can keep our gambling activity from others and we do not have to tell them. But most people will say they don't gamble even though they already have a gambling addiction and seem to cover up their gambling activities.

But if they lie to borrow money and instead use it to play gambling, it can cause them trouble, especially if they lose and lose all their money. They can't tell the truth because it can make the people around them disappointed to hear it. That's why we have to avoid it so as not to cause trouble for ourselves later.
The truth is that most gamblers are addicted to it, only that the level of addiction varies, which is why we shouldn't worry unless it has eaten deep into our emotions and we could hardly do anything without it despite losing money every time. In this situation, such a person needs help and must forcefully take a break from gambling before his mental state in this regard would be reset. The truth is that most people are just crying foul after they are addicted already but always neglecting what causes the addiction. People should not think that gambling is a means that will make them rich and should stop gambling without a proper budget for it.

They should gamble for fun, calculate their daily, weekly and monthly gambling amount and keep them in a separate account and be ready to be contented with the gains from it. These are some of the calculative plans to avoid emotional attachment to gambling and make you enjoy it rather than violating its responsibility clause.

I agree with the guy above that lying about your gambling activities doesn't necessarily indicate that you are a gambling addict because you can also lie sometimes because you don't want people to simply know that you gamble even if you are not an addict, I personally tend to do that even though I know I'm not an addict, it is just better to keep some things to yourself instead of telling everyone about it.

About borrowing money, that should basically not be done if you are doing it for gambling, and if you do that and lie about it, you are definitely addicted to gambling and the urge to gamble is what makes you borrow money so that you can continue to gamble.
I'm not saying I gamble a lot because I'm uncomfortable saying so. But I also try to control myself while playing gambling and will not cross the boundaries that I have made. Yes, I also feel it's better to keep some things to myself and not tell others.

And borrowing money is not always a good way out, especially if we can't calculate how much we have to pay each month or whether we can afford to pay it off later. Maybe borrowing money to use other things is still acceptable because we need it for something and not for gambling.

If not then you can suggest some, that can be added to this topic.
An addicted gambler will also have the character of skipping necessities in their life just so they can have enough money to gamble with even though they constantly loose.

An addicted gambler can skip and reduce meals just to have money to gamble with.
An addicted gambler can skip personal grooming and care, stop buying clothes and personal care products just so they can gamble more.
An addicted gambler can decide to walk a distance that they are supposed to pay for transportation to get there easily just so they can use the money in gambling.

An addicted gambling considers gambling as the most important.
And one of the reasons an addict keeps gambling is the hope to recover their losses and since it was possible for them to make such losses, so will it be possible to recoup their losses and by so doing, unintentionally chase their losses which draining them off.

Adding to the list of what an addicted gambler can do to keep up with gambling includes
. A gambler can steal to gamble
. A gambler can also involve in a lot of criminal activities like kidnapping  and the rest of them to make extra money for gamble.
There is always a need to look out for the nearest person when we start noticing some unusual behaviors and frequent bettings.

No need to browse.

Just simple, you can't handle "deposit". That's one indication you are addicted, for example like you already winning and withdraw the money after that in the next 5-10/30 mins you are deposited again.

Deposit over and over again until your money is out, are indicated addicted.
Yes, it's the same as what I did, but being addicted doesn't mean you can become a heavy addict, sometimes some gamblers want to find pleasure in playing gambling and don't target big wins, let alone chase defeats. The above are indeed some of the signs of gambling addiction behavior, but many don't realize that they are started to become an addict.

For me addicts are people who always chase defeat so that a lot of money is spent in games, whereas I never chase my losses because playing to spend a little money on weekends doesn't keep me curious and makes me run out of a lot of money, but actually everything comes back to me own how to control not to become a heavy addict.
It happened to me as well but indeed I am still not fully convinced that I am an addict gambler because I can still function very well. I still can eat or sleep properly. Not all times we are like that where we redeposit and lose all our winnings but sometimes we know how to do the proper thing. That is we take a break from playing.

It's also more possible if we already cashed out the digital money into a physical one and we already spend it on some essential things. Chasing defeat is not only the sign that a gambler is addicted but there is also chasing for a win or they are only hook on playing the game because the graphics and sound is so good.

In fact, the main factor is not adrenaline, but human physiology, which makes you try further if there is an illusion that the win is close (all casinos and games create such an illusion on purpose). ......
Yes, this is what happened. This illusion makes a gamer always have too high expectations of winning every round of gambling. However, at that time they also lost. They are still curious and want to always hope for more, and have illusions of winning in the next gaming round, and finally lose again. Just keep going like that. not to mention if it is offline gambling where many people sometimes influence to continue gambling by lending money at high interest, this is even worse.

The last investment I would choose is to borrow money from a crazed gambler who has already lost his money but wants to continue on borrowed money  Grin But I have heard of something like that, like people selling their jewelry to such dealers, or even cars that they drove to the casino. Yes, it looks dirty, but people have to control themselves, if they are idiots they will lose their property one way or another.

     -   I think and believe that a problem gambler can be helped by a professional gambler. Of course, the problem gambler will go to gambling to temporarily forget or escape the problem he is facing, so that what he feels might be replaced by excitement through gambling.

Now, if he meets a professional gambler, he can give him reminders and gambling ideas through the skills needed for gambling. Unlike the social gambler who is all about having fun and not thinking about getting money from gambling.

Though I do agree with some points that you raised, I somehow doubt that a professional gambler may be able to completely help an addicted gambler at some point.

The problem with this gambler is that, they primarily gamble due to money. They have this mindset that they have to bet in order to make a buck and to satisfy their hunger of earning money. Whereas, professional gamblers already make a living in which 99% of normal gamblers would not even achieve.

For example, if I were a professional gambler, I do think that I can already make a living due to the games that I can be sponsored into- for example poker, etc.

You would really be calling yourself on being a professional gambler if you do have this following things;

1. Able to sustain profits and make a living with it
2. Good on emotion handling
3. Do knows on when to stop and when to proceed
4. Financial handling

Although not all would really be that good on this one and not all would really be able to achieve that certain state. On the time that you would be able to achieve
this state then you are someone who had passed out lots of trials and challenges towards gambling and one for sure is addiction but luckily you do able to caught up
and able to recover from it but there are ones who didnt able to reach out this state.

Adrenaline is what makes gamblers feel constantly challenged and play until they get pleasure, it's the feeling of pleasure when we win that makes us sometimes feel like we want to keep playing and get more wins, it's human nature that's difficult for us to avoid, a kind of greed because basically it's hard avoid that trait.

In fact, the main factor is not adrenaline, but human physiology, which makes you try further if there is an illusion that the win is close (all casinos and games create such an illusion on purpose). It has remained in us from the time when we were hunting animals. People have changed the world but the physiology has remained the same. Therefore, gambling addiction can be considered to some extent as a pronounced atavism.

I agree, there's  the adrenaline rush that we can get once we continue to play and when we win there's this kind of feeling that we cannot stop. I felt that as well even now there will some time that I continue to play after I already withdraw my winning because I can't stop the feeling but I am still trying to stop this because I know in the long run it will not be a good thing for me.

If we can control ourselves from being greedy, of course we will not fall deeper into continuing to play and gamble until the money runs out, for example I play just for fun and don't focus on getting lots of money at the casino, so I can control myself more and know when to stop playing.

Yeah if your focus is just to have some fun, if you can maintain that intention the chance of not getting too much engage is very possible, but after you feel that entertainment your appetite might change up and you'll going to seek for more, both winning or losing you will find yourself aiming for more, a very common thing that may happen if you don't have a good control over yourself.

A case to case for sure, a gambler is prone to addiction if by anyhow he will keep adding more time playing and accompany of that will be more deposit money to keep playing.

  • Borrowing money to gamble.
This is a worst sign of being addicted to gambling, though some might think this is still ok since they are just borrowing small money to someone, they didn't realize that slowly they are getting more attached to gambling and on their way to addiction. Gambling should not take seriously as if its a good source of income, remember its very risky and chances of winning is very low to zero at all. Don't borrow money if you don't want to be broke, just gamble if you can financially.
Borrowing money is one of the worst sign but there are other worst sign to gambling. Someone may have property to sell which is another worst sign of gambling. I mean someone that have used all the money he has to gambling and lay hand on his properties and start to sell it until he lost all to gambling. Some gamblers are addicts and have gone worst to such extent. The money they see, they use it to gamble, what they have, they sell it to gamble and they can go to the extent of borrowing to gamble which is very wrong because borrowing itself will let them make wrong decision while gambling and the end is loss. If they lost the money, where is the gambler going to see the money to pay back the money borrowed.

When a gambler started borrowing money to fund his gambling activities, it will be the start of the gambler's life journey to ruin because he will always come back borrowing money from people in order to get fund to his compulsive gambling activities until he can't borrow anymore.  His assets and properties will be sold next in order to pay for the debt and at the same time finance his gambling activity again.  There are lots of cases like these, and when they don't have anything to sell, they will sell the member of his family just to have money to fund his gambling sessions.

I was browsing on the internet and stumble upon this article and found out that there are three kinds of gamblers. They are Professional gamblres, social gamblers and problem gamblers. The first two are okay but the third one which is the problem gamblers are the ones who are struggling with this addiction.

As gambling addiction can be a challenging issue that can have a very harmful impact on an individual's life. it is always recommended to find a professional helpb rather struggling with it. Do you agree with those behaviours? If not then you can suggest some, that can be added to this topic.
I'm sure this topic has already been discussed, I'm not saying it directly because of the addiction to the game, this is a recurring topic among several users or it tends to be in trend at a certain time, but there is one just like yours, oscourse you change the context.

This is something you should check before posting. On the other hand, the type of link that it shows gives a very good sense to my doubt, because surely he wrote "addiction to ggambling" and selected the first option, maybe not, but let's give some @.5   Smiley

________
Any gambling pathology should be treated with a specialist and it is he who must decide in which degree of addiction you, if he considers it so, then, on the other hand it is better to publish his own betting experiences showing graphs and analyze if he is a candidate for addicted or is it just the variance that affects him,

Betting a lot of money, dedicating many hours does not mean addiction, in the equivalent, earning a lot of money, dedicating a couple of hours does not mean that you cannot be or be a candidate for gambling problems.
