The sign that a person is addicted to gambling is that when he searches something in google, he clicks on "I am feeling lucky" instead of hitting enter button Cheesy To the list of 5 signs from first post I would add making bookmarks of favourite casino pages or slots. In addition to visiting them frequently. That is the beginning of addiction start. From my experience, collecting daily bonuses or doing tasks, or hunting for benefits (free spins after deposit, participating in competition) is also a sign of addiction.

The most important sign of gambling addict is using more money than you can afford to lose, the other behaviors are just addition and not really correct to determine a gambling addict. So ask yourself, how much you willing to lose your monthly every month? if you said $100 and you already gamble $200, you're an addict. Even though the $200 didn't harm your life because you still have money, but it's an early sign of gambling addict, just on a different level.

But not many people want to listen to other people's advice and continue to gamble. And it will be even more dangerous if they sink deeper into gambling. It will only make them experience a more severe addiction and difficult to cure.
The gambler does not want to listen to other people's advice and prefers to keep gambling because he has goals and the thought that gambling can give him what he wants, such as the benefits of pleasure and satisfaction so it is difficult to be able to give better advice to gamblers who are truly addicted.
Instead of advising gamblers like that, it's better for me to let them go until they feel deep disappointment and regret after that, then they can accept every advice we give.

Quote
They will hide their gambling activities without anyone knowing about it. Maybe they'll be alone and won't seek professional help.
If it's for family, of course he will hide it, but if it's for friends or relatives who also like to gamble, they will always tell about every win or loss that he has experienced.
The thought of going to a professional to stop gambling will not arise if there is no intention and desire from himself.

  • Preoccupation with gambling.
  • The urge to increase wagers to achieve the same level of excitement.
  • Having difficulty in controlling, cutting back, or stopping gambling despite several attempts.
  • Lying about gambling activities.
  • Borrowing money to gamble.

Any sensitive gambler should see any of these signs coming before they can landed on them unexpectedly, sometimes our own personal interest, character and attitude also contribute to the experience we had with gambling and the level to how we often get addicted whenever we are gambling, a modest living and pattern of the gamblers lifestyle matters alot to make his decision in gambling work for his own interest and good than been negatively affected while gambling as many unethical behavioral attitudes emancipates while gambling if not been disciplined enough to exercise caution.

I agree with the behavior but the problem is that it is not easy to realize that we have this behavior. Only other people can find out if we have that behavior and advise us to reduce our gambling activities.

I think a problem gambler would be better described as irresponsible, because all the types of behavior you listed are characteristic of irresponsible people and they will find problems in any area, whether it is gambling, alcohol or credit. A person who controls his emotions and desires is unlikely to become a gambling addict to the extent that gambling brings problems.
Obtaining all within your grasp and seeking more is solely desperate; an addicted gambler is never pleased with what he or she has, willing to go to any length to obtain finances. One of the primary indicators that a gambler is addicted is desperation. They are always anxious for additional earnings, regardless of how much they have previously made. It is evident that profits can be created but cannot be controlled; gamblers tend to go deeper into making extreme ends, which means borrowing from their peers all the time for the purpose to make more money, just to lose everything at the end of the day.

The problem, however, at least where I live, is that nobody seeks treatment for it.

Yes, or what I am saying, that when they seek help it is because the damage is already too great, not because they notice a little of the symptoms described.

That's correct, or when it's already too late like when a gambling addict here killed and injured more than a hundred people in a Resorts World casino 5 years ago. A slight yet obvious change in attitude doesn't really raise a red flag. Symptoms don't trigger the alarm. It is wrong, but it is what is happening here. Prevention is always better than cure. That's what they say, but I notice that care would only be given once things have blown out already.

Just recently, I had a bet against a young policeman who went AWOL because of problems emanating from gambling addiction. He didn't pay me. Worse, he took my bet money. He was in the service when his gambling addiction turned worse. His workmates knew everything. No intervention was done. He himself didn't seek treatment.

I was browsing on the internet and stumble upon this article and found out that there are three kinds of gamblers. They are Professional gamblres, social gamblers and problem gamblers. The first two are okay but the third one which is the problem gamblers are the ones who are struggling with this addiction.

So I asked myself what behaviour would suggest that an individual is a problem gambler. Did some research and found many behaviour that suggest an individual is struggling with gambling addiction. Out of those I found the following five behaviours to be most common ones in a problem gambler.

  • Preoccupation with gambling.
  • The urge to increase wagers to achieve the same level of excitement.
  • Having difficulty in controlling, cutting back, or stopping gambling despite several attempts.
  • Lying about gambling activities.
  • Borrowing money to gamble.

As gambling addiction can be a challenging issue that can have a very harmful impact on an individual's life. it is always recommended to find a professional helpb rather struggling with it. Do you agree with those behaviours? If not then you can suggest some, that can be added to this topic.
All of those are signs of a person having some gambling issues, but the first, the third and the fourth points can be difficult to quantify, and it allows those problem gamblers to hide or to lie about them, however the second and the fifth point should be very easy to verify as we are talking about money here.

So if someone can see that through the history of their bets the amount they are betting increases over a time period, and they are not earning more money since the beginning of that period, then this is a clear sign they have problems, and the fifth point is even a bigger tell as everyone can get into some difficult financial situation due to a medical emergency or losing your job, but if your problems come from your gambling activities then this is definite proof you need to look for professional help.

Seem a normal signs of gamblers actually except

Gamblers who attempt to stop and yet can't is indeed a problem already but the rest of them looks like a daily encounter of gamblers. Far worse than those list should be added like robbing family member's TV in order to sell and gamble the money is an example.

Borrowing money and preoccupation with gambling are the top two red flags.

I also heard that gambling addiction could show itself as a manifestation of anxiety and irritation. So if the person jumps down your throat every time you say anything to them, then that could mean that person has an addiction. Although many addictions have the same physical symptoms, so judging people only by their behavior might be a mistake and could end up in you misjudging people.

The difference between a gambling addict and a professional is likely the difference between having a winning night or a losing night. Lol. In reality, I think gambling addiction just boils down to greed. People feel like they deserve to win a ton of money and think casinos are the way for them to get what they deserve. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t work like that.
Heavy addicts usually consider gambling as a source of income that can make it quickly rich, that is why gamblers are always greedy that playing gambling benefits them to get big money quickly without having to work, light addicts may be people who like to gamble at a certain time so they don't Spend time playing gambling.

Heavy gamblers tend to spend their time and money to gamble even he doesn't care about the people around him, some of the signs above can also be called to distinguish addicts from their respective classes, not all addicts are bad too, as long as they can control themselves are good but if not that which will be a problem. Nothing can be cured of addiction if not from himself.  Grin

The signs sound like plausible symptoms of gambling addiction, the problem is that in this as in other addictions one is slow to act. It is usually after you have fallen too low, after you have lost too much, or have been hooked for too long, that you start to think about stopping.

The problem, however, at least where I live, is that nobody seeks treatment for it.

The problem, however, at least where I live, is that nobody seeks treatment for it. Aside from the fact that there probably aren't enough institutions or professionals locally to provide these gambling addicts their much needed help, communities themselves seem nonchalant about what they're going through. People would only talk behind their backs without trying to contact the right agencies for necessary interventions. This is the reason why gambling addiction here is not anymore treated as big of a deal as it should be.

This is easier to say, but some gamblers might struggle to reach out to other people because, as mentioned in the article, lying is one of the many signs. Not all gamblers are willing to open up about their addiction, but luckily we have some sites that can be an alternative solution.

I agree with most of the behaviors since i've experienced at least three or four of them when I still loved playing casino games, and thankfully i'm through that point. It's almost similar to some of the gambling streams i've watched recently, but the difference is they have tons of balance, so they don't need to borrow from anyone.

Adding up

• Spending up your life savings
• Starting to make some conflicts towards other family members
• Doesnt have the balance in between gambling and other priorities
• Isnt really good on decision making and prioritize gambling habit

On the time that you are already spending up much money and spending up much more time compared into your priorities and responsibilities in life
then this is already a solid indication that you are already gradually making yourself getting addicted with gambling on which we should really be careful because on the time that things turns out to be a mess
then this is where regrets do kicks in and would be kicking up on the wall that on what have you done?

It's actually pretty easy to notice if someone's going past the limits or is being addicted, some simple stuff that you'd often do as a kid, like asking nonchalantly for money, being impulsive, lying, stuff like that. It's like your attitude turns into a brat once a certain activity, in this case gambling comes up. I basically told myself when making decisions to grow up so as to avoid doing dumb stuff.

The simple idea of only depositing once per session, with a fixed amount every time should fix most of the problems imo. It's my method at least of putting in money I'd use to gamble anw.

I would also add to initial list...:
- compulsive betting on events (often without understanding the rationale).
- never withdraw your winnings and play without limits.
- spend a lot of time in this activity.
- not having defined budgets/not being able to limit oneself in bets.
- have gambling-related mood swings.

There's more for sure which is also the reason why gambling addiction is dangerous; you won't instantly know or realize that you are too dragged into it. There are even instance wherein rational thinking of addicted players, were also affected. Some are selling their properties just to continue with hopes of getting back with what they have lost problem is, things won't work that way. Pushing it thtough would just yield to bigger losses especially if you are just unlucky for that day. Moderation is the key to limit and avoid ending up with such situation. Problem with gambling addiction is being surprised that you are already addicted into it while at the ssme time you have lost that much. There'll be no easy reminder, you'll just be shocked of how fast it happened so be careful.

I knew about someone that sold all the goods in his shop. He did not know how it happened until his shop has nothing that customers can buy again because gambling destroy the business for him. Borrowing is worse but there are other things that are worse too if addicted to gambling.
I don't know why that is a problem for anyone who is addicted to exust his savings are very easy since all he needs to do is to stake one or two bets a day and continue doing so will eventually lead him to finally draining all his assets and invested capital I the shop so I don't see what is most strange with your experience since that is familiar with those businesses that get high on their supply.

So ultimately this is not something that is new to us, seeing people spending money that is not meant for gambling on gambling is the bad attitude of any business.
