Exactly! Many people can come up with idea that 80% is too much, but it is sad reality. Some projects are scams and even if founder has good intention, bad circumstances can lead to total failure with listing or product development.
80% is not too much. I think that everyone knows that investing is always a risk, and investing in ICO is a double risk. Now we see that ICO is going through not the best of times, this is due to the fact that too many people want to earn quick money.

Most of the ICO's are scam now days and the peoples are scare about to invest in ICO. in 2016 and 2017 many peoples are involved in ICO and earned good profit, in 2018 ICO's are not success because of bitcoin price fluctuation, more people avoid to invest in ICO, I think ICO is good investment platform and you can earn good money but you should study about good project and invest only you can affordable to lose money, crypto currency and ICO are very risky investment platform.

I can say that many ICO projects do pay tokens. But after that you can not sell these tokens, because they are not on the exchanges. I think this is also one of the variants of fraud.

If a startup fail, you don't say that it was a scam. You might say that the management team was weak, the idea was bad, fund management wasn't satisfying, but it means something went wrong, although all the employees did their best. The same applies to ICOs.

Actually it isnt 80% its almost 95% of the ICO are scams that is why we need to do a lot o research before getting involved with these ICO projects because most of these projects are just created raise funds from the investors and going to runaway after getting millions of dollars from the people. But researching wont save us from these scams

ICO is relatively new way of raising money and making cryptocurrency useful for e etyday task. We must nature ico and see where these new economy take us.  The ICO project is interesting, but again if that ICO is just a garbage then it would be useless. Therefore, it is necessary to draw conclusions about the ICO two years after the listing of the tokens on the exchanges.   Grin

Yes, and I think maybe the persantage of scams in ICOs is higher than 80%, maybe 95% of them are scams. As so much scams break, and so much icos break the ico price, we see that most of the ICOs can't get money right now.

Yes, now the situation with ICO is significantly different compared to former times. Now the number of scammers has increased, but the choice of promising options remains quite wide.

The Alive Casino ICO was posting in the Gambling section https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/alive-casino-join-the-ico-thats-making-gambling-come-to-life-4778911

It's such an obvious scam, we had to write the Alive Casino ICO Scam article and join all their bots tweeting #cryptocurrency #tokensale #ICOs #AliveCasino on twitter

Yes I think I'll agree with this arguement. Because of high volume of coins in the market the search for good project became very hard. So I guess what populates the mark let now are just schemes to get money from investors.

become a dilemma indeed to be able to find which profitable ICO and ICO are scams, need extra careful attitude if it wants to participate in the ICO, as indeed a benefit at the ICO is big enough, but even then not few people still trust the ICO and remains active in it.

I think you have a point too but another problem is what makes it happen because of little support from the project to move forward in the future of a project, I can say that ico just want to take the first advantage and leave the project after that.

One of the giant issue with the way ico being conducted today is that there's a presumption that the project will actually fulfill its promise for the crowdsale advertisement. It's quite similar as buying a movie ticket after watching a great trailer, only to find out that the movie actually suck.

sad stats but what can we do is just make a good research before investing. My advice is to pay attention to whether the projects have a ready-made product as it is some kind of guarantee that it is not a scam as well as long termed activity before ICO.

Saw this study on twitter... https://twitter.com/Zeex_me/status/978981735101878272

I've seen a lot of people asking about how many legit ICOs there are, so I thought I'd share

Quote from the article: "The study begins by breaking down ICOs into 6 groups: Scam, Failed, Gone Dead, Dwindling, Promising, Successful. “On the basis of the above classification,” they wrote, “we found that approximately 81% of ICO’s were Scams, ~6% Failed, ~5% had Gone Dead, and ~8% went on to trade on a exchange.”

"Scams were defined by researchers as “Any project that expressed availability of [an] ICO investment (through a website publishing, ANN thread, or social media posting with a contribution address), did not have/had no intention of fulfilling project development duties with the funds, and/or was deemed by the community (message boards, website or other online information) to be a scam.”

DYOR people ...

This once again confirms that if you decide to participate in the ICO, you need to very carefully choose projects. A good analysis of the project will reduce the risk to a minimum.

That's a lot of them not raising enough funds to complete their ICO, not that they're an actual scam out to steal money.
