I've seen a lot of people asking about how many legit ICOs there are, so I thought I'd share

Quote from the article: "The study begins by breaking down ICOs into 6 groups: Scam, Failed, Gone Dead, Dwindling, Promising, Successful. “On the basis of the above classification,” they wrote, “we found that approximately 81% of ICO’s were Scams, ~6% Failed, ~5% had Gone Dead, and ~8% went on to trade on a exchange.”

"Scams were defined by researchers as “Any project that expressed availability of [an] ICO investment (through a website publishing, ANN thread, or social media posting with a contribution address), did not have/had no intention of fulfilling project development duties with the funds, and/or was deemed by the community (message boards, website or other online information) to be a scam.”

DYOR people ...

In my own opinion, those people who thinks that 80% of the ico's in the market are just those people who have been scammed by an ico because they did not check the white paper or the platform.

imagine, when all of ico accepted on exchanger, trade by all of us, its possible to accommodate all of coin on exchanger? and they want to accept i dont know that is good coin or not? there must be much coin and not all coin will trade or accept on exchanger. so there are many zonk coin, that is scam or they are not accepted on exchanger

From where did you took those stats? i am more than certain in that it isn't always the manner which you are claiming in there. let's be practical, the market isn't always precise in the mean time, and there are increasingly scammy cash in the interim, and that is unhappy

The statistics are sad and in fact now more than 80 percent of the ICO. I hope that this issue will be regulated in some way, because it only worsens the situation of cryptocurrencies.

I do not believe that 80% of ICO are scam maybe there are so many ico that is failing but it is not scam, and i am advicing a lot of people that before to invest in ico they should first make sure that the ico is sure success and the ico they will choose should have a good whitepaper.

Because ico raises money very quickly and without any supervision!
Many scammers pretend to be blockchain experts to ico scam!
Investing ico should be careful to listen to some expert advice, don't invest by feeling!

People should really need to study and do some reseaech before diving in to those iCO's to avoid heart aches and losses in their investment. Stop thinking about BITCOIN or ICO's as an easy way to be rich, it's not.

Yes I feel that way. the number of failed ico and scam this year made investors unsure of the ico project. investors only need ico that has a long term advantage.

I wish that number was true. I fear it is going to converge more or less towards 100%. Maybe 5% of ICOs can deliver some success. Just think about how many there are and how many will be launched. 20% success rate would be incredible.

People come up with new ICO just to make money and not think about the future. Too few have remained useful ICO projects that can help our society.

In my own opinion, its not true that 80% of the ico's are scam because if that happen's then there will be no more altcoins today that will be going to released in the market so just try to study their platform before investing a huge amount.

Did you read the study before posting? That report says 80% of ICOs never even intended to do what they said they would do. That just means 80% of the ICOs you see advertised are pure junk. That does not mean 80% of altcoins are pure junk.

If you're not going to read the article at least read the title correctly. Just from the article title alone we can see you're wrong on in your assumption. If 80% are scams and only 8% made it to the exchange, it is not counting coins that did not make it onto exchanges as scams, otherwise it'd be 92% instead of 80%.

The ICO that scam, in my opinion, is not that big of its percentage. Most people who get ICO fail because they are not able to run their mission smoothly and on target, they will assume that ICO is a scam. And the truth is they are not a scam. So it makes a large percentage of ICO scam. ICO failing also has a variety of reasons, ranging from team performance, ICO creativity, and also the factor of the development of the price of crypto is not good.

As a person who did invested in a few ICOs before and the one who is doing ICO for my own company - here is my test to find out who is scam and who is not. This test is applicable to ICOs which are about software solutions. Unfortunately 90% of software ICOs fail that test.

Yep, there are a lot of projects that is too good to be true like they got solution to every problem. I only trust ICO's that is being managed by a professional company or platform, because I'm pretty sure they're researching before handling every ICO.
