8b 16b DEMOSCENE FTW
Did the chain indeed stop? According to http://8bitcoin.netspecto.com/explorer.php the last block is 636889 and it was generated 9 days ago.
The wallet on my Linux box is struggling to sync from bootstrap - it is so slow and CPU hungry. I think it will sync in one week.. if not, looks like more powerful VPS is needed Smiley

In any case, a new chain seems to be the only viable solution to those sync issues.

Make sure you have set maxorphanblocks=99999999 in your 8bit.conf. Otherwise sync might take many weeks.

Ok, thanks a lot. So the bootstrap.dat we have is not a clean one, it also contains info on orphan blocks? I have read somewhere there are two ways to create a bootstrap.dat - one way is just by copying the blk00xx.dat (the dirty way, where the bootstrap could contain a lot of extra garbage), and another way, more complex (don't remember the details), where the bootstrap.dat is clean and contains only the healthy blocks info..

Thanks for the hint. I did not know about creation of orphan-free bootstraps. We will update bootstrap soon.

The strength of the VPS is not the issue here... This one has multiple virtual cores, and 1.5g/dedicated ram (actually a lot for a VPS)... Annnnnd, all it's doing is one 8bit wallet, and a web server... (with ONLY the new 8bit site, the faucet, and netspecto.com on it, generating all of 100 hits/day total currently)

Specifically here's the CPU usage on the VPS: http://xymon.netspecto.com/xymon-cgi/svcstatus.sh?HOST=server&SERVICE=cpu
Annnnnd, here's the memory usage: http://xymon.netspecto.com/xymon-cgi/svcstatus.sh?HOST=server&SERVICE=memory
Really, no issues there.

It is conceivable that if we can get 8bit working/rebooted, and it REALLY takes off, this VPS might not be enough, BUT, as for now, we should HOPE that becomes a problem... Wink

(point of fact, if it does become a problem, I'm very capable of building something multi-honed, geo-diverse, and load-balanced.... I do that sort of thing for a living.)

Nice to see we have powerful server there!

But when telling "looks like more powerful VPS is needed", I meant "I need to get more powerful VPS", to be able to fast load from the bootstrap.dat Smiley
Even the loading from bootstrap needs quite a bit of processing power (I assume thats because all blocks are checked), not even speaking about synching the chain from the network...

I never had doubts about your server's power, or your abilities to manage those servers Smiley

Sorry for confusion.

Any updates, dev?

I'm not the dev, BUT, I have opened a support case with Bittrex asking them to take a few steps to get their wallet rocking again.
I have also heard a bit from 8-bit-party (the dev) that he has been on the right track to get the blocks flowing again.  (short-term fix)

Either he or I will keep you folks posted as new arises... But rest assured, we are working not only to get the coin back on track, but to break new ground and really bring some value to this adventure!

Any news please.

Why does not work blockexplorer?

Actually the new block explorer is working just fine (although I am still working out the results formatting)... http://8bitcoin.netspecto.com/explorer.php

There is a widespread issue with the wallets at the moment (including the one that powers the block explorer)...
But, no fear, it is absolutely a fixable problem.

8-bit-party is actively working on a fix, and I do honestly expect to hear from him in the very near future.
