Here in my hood, someone staked $1,000 to a bet with little odds and to all hope that there was no possibilities of him loosing the game but revise be the case that the game got cut off in just 3 minutes for the game over and then he could had cashed his winning.
It is quite unfortunate that he staked above what he could not afford to loose. So out of frustrations and anger he broke his TV on the process.

After his temper became calm, he ended up regretting to had lost his bet and went such a mile of destroying his TV.

He now makes two different lost counts at the caused of his inability to control his gambling emotions and his over confidence to had staked what he can't afford to loosed.

He's not ready to face the consequences of the action he done that's why he became so frustrated regarding on what happen to him. That's why before taking a risky decision like extending the size of their bet they should know their limits since if they can't decide well and take those bad option for sure what happen to that guy may happen to them to. This story may serve a good lesson to somebody who can read this that they should never bet the amount they can't afford to lose since for sure they get same frustration they can get and might they do more hardcore things that person in the topic.

Regret comes late that's why we should never came into that point because we cannot retrieve what we lose.

Also I think this topic belongs to gambling discussion.

Broken his television is just a sign of direct transfer of aggression and thanks to heaven no human was close to him he would been the victim of that smash and not the television.

I am a lot careful with small odds when making my predictions as an experienced gambler that I am, I mainly don't give attention to all of those small odds because that's where bookmakers exercises their professionalism in the sports betting industry. Odds don't play games so we shouldn't depend on odd size to confidently making bet predictions.

The caveat here is that we shouldn't spend money we can't afford to lose on gambling. Not minding how confident we seem to be towards the odds or the source of information to the predictions. For the safety of your health and psychology learn to gamble responsibly.

No possibilities of losing a bet? If there were no possibilities of a losing a bet, then gambling wouldn't be called gambling.
It would be called conservative investing with guaranteed returns. Grin A dumb person always pays for his stupidity, in one way or another.
Maybe this guy will learn his lesson and start betting with really small amounts of money. Or maybe he will have to quit gambling completely.
Even if he's not a gambling addict, he seems like an impulsive gambler and impulsive gamblers are the worst. I don't feel sorry for him about destroying his TV. Watching TV is a waste of time and I watch TV for maximum 2 hours a day. Maybe breaking your TV can have a positive impact at the end of the day(less time to waste).

That was a very careless and reckless gambler, and he was not the kind of addicted gambler. Just because of his stupidity and perhaps overconfidence, he got excited without thinking about it and also didn't have any experience that caused such a fuss and regret.
And I can't believe he doesn't know that low odds are risky and realize that if it doesn't live up to expectations then it will be disappointing because anything can happen. And it will be a valuable lesson and experience that gambling is not as easy as he imagined.

some time ago I posted this example of a lost bet even though it was a little odds...likewise 1.01!

little odds doesn't mean too much at least to me. if an event have an odds it means it can happens/result has not been defined.
and the bet deserve some attention.

That's another one, surely having such good odds he trusted in the improbability of losing his money to bet more, but improbable does not mean impossible, those of us who have been around for a long time know that for sure. Those who go to the casino a lot see improbable events happen every now and then.

Yes, even if you have only 1% chances of losing a game, you should wager a big amount in order to make substantial profit, so you must be aware of the big risk (very low prob. but tremendous impact doesn't make it safe at all). If you want to go like that, take into account that you could lose your money, imagine yourself in that scenario, and think what would you do if it eventually happens. If you can't afford to lose it, then it is a no-go.

I like to play dice that way from time to time. But I'm aware that the more I play, chances are that I eventually lose all the little profits made in the past in just a single roll. It's a matter of time and, when it happens, it won't surprise me. It's something I can afford to lose and I'm well aware of the risks. When it eventually happens, it will hurt, but I won't break my computer.

It looks like the protagonist of the story is going to have a lot of problems with gambling, and is going to lose a lot of money. He bets more than he can afford and does not control his emotions, two essential ingredients for a disastrous recipe.

So the big question is why do people act so ignorant to bet $1000 and win less than $50? I have no clue what amount he could have won as you just say low odds, but it's still silly to wager a lot to win very little. Might as well deposit to a dice site and bet on x1.0102 a few times if you need to make a few bucks.

FYI move this to gambling discussion

One thing that I want to understand is that are we angry about that gambler betting 1000$ or we are surprised that he broke his TV ?
I know he broke his TV out of his frustration but the value of the TV is nothing as compared to the 1000$. If he has lost 1000$, he could manage the few more bucks loss for the TV too.

The important thing to consider is why the gambler bet too much in the first place that they cannot recover the loss. This is something for them to rethink and make a strategy about it. If the gambler continues like this, not only the losses with increase but also he may take even more severe steps rather than just breaking the TV (out of frustration).

Yeah, I also hope he regrets what he doing with the TV. I mean case like A gambler losing what he couldn't afford to lose and breaking his TV after the game Lost is not new for me when people are fueled with emotion people tends to break thing and 1000 USd is not small amount.

If I were he I might do the same thing but now I can control my emotion even tho is not 100% controller but still rather than break a things or hurt someone. if you lose just open youtube and play what on your dashboard you will safe for a minute

I can understand the fact that gambler was not experienced enough to identify they risks he was taking by going for such high stake in a bet with very little odds. Obviously, he allowed greed to take over his mind. Though, he was not supposed to destroy his own property when he saw his money being taking away from him.
When anyone of us lose money and feel angry or sad, it is healthy to vent our emotions by punching something, crying, whatever makes us to feel better and does not hurt ourselves or others. Hopefully, this will be a close call to that person and will understand betting is not for the faint of heart, specially for those who are betting more than they can allow themselves to lose.

Also, I am curious OP. How did you manage to know one of your neighbors lose that quantity of money and also destroyed their own Television, it sounds like something they neighbor would rather not to talk about and other to know about. It could be humiliating for most of people to be sent as a fool who lost such an amount in betting and yet destroys their own valuables. Are you a close friend with that person or are those only rumors which are circulating when you live?

You shouldn’t gamble or invest, if you can’t afford to lose. These are considered as game of luck and not skill. Hence, if your luck isn’t so good, then no one can stop you from making losses. You should always be mentally prepared that at any more you can lose the bet. Yes, rather if it was game of skill, you could have practiced and could have enhanced your skill. But here only the luck plays the important role. Hence if you lose big money, this type of reaction was common only.

That gambler is yet to understand the principles of gambling maybe I will say he is still an amatuer in gambling why on earth would he go gamble with such huge amount thinking he would win the bet, from what I am seeing this class of people are those who go stake with their building or their landed properties hoping they will win big to cover those expenses without knowing that gambling doesn't obey and defined anyone or consider anybody health condition. Whenever the mistake is made then for sure he must surely lose his stake, next you have to advise him to always gamble with the amount he can afford to lose otherwise he might end up committing suicide whenever he uses a higher amount to gamble.

Yeah, it is the result of greed and failure to control oneself over money and opportunities. In the end, only regret remains.

If that has happened then there is no need to regret it because it is just useless. What he always need to remember is never repeat the same thing because a donkey never falls into the same hole twice. Continue living, working and improving his financial condition, that's the best thing he needs to do

This is common, luck is not in his favor. It is really hard to control emotion in his situation because he has opted for a small win, going for the lowest odds, which means the winning chance is high. When the same thing doesn't happen and things go out of his prediction, the mind automatically loses control. More importantly, he had bet a large amount out of his confidence, and the same had made him lose big. This is really painful, and regretting after losing is common, and this serves as a lesson for everyone who goes through this situation.

Gamble responsibly
Some gamblers do not know that low odds are dangerous. They are dangerous because it will make gamblers to think of using high amount of money to gamble because the chance of winning is high. People should understand gambling sites, especially bookies, that the odds are set in a way not to favour the gamblers in long term.

Sorry for the loss. I think he has learned his lesson not to gamble with the amount of money that he can not afford to lose.
