Facebook has plans to make coins with a stable coin concept and centralized.  it will be difficult to compete with BTC.  Facebook will compete with other stable coins such as USDT.  Facebook utilities cannot catch the crypto king.

i don't think global coin is competing with bitcoin and will be a rival of btc. but maybe, the usage of globalcoin might be huge as facebook followers alone has huge number. it is interesting how this coin will perform in the market. i guess Zuckerberg will not let this coin be a flop in the crypto market...

I think it won't be easy for Facebook coins to be a rival to bitcoin, bitcoin is a true crypto coin and in any situation bitcoin remains the main one.

An FB coin, if it becomes another stable coin, even theoretically cannot be compared not only with Bitcoin, nor with other popular types of cryptocurrencies. Especially, if this coin will be used mainly on Facebook. This will be another centralized coin and I do not think it will be in great demand. We still know little about its functionality. In general, I believe that a large amount and diversity in cryptocurrency will only benefit its development. Let the FB coin prove its usefulness, and we will see what happens.

But remember facebook has got two failed when he tried to make a payment system. One is facebook credit and two facebook massenger payment the both system has gone away from time to time. Now, he comes back again with a news system that called as global coin but I don't think he will be success again. Moreover, to beat out bitcoin as payment system because the system are really different. Remember with decentralized system and centralized system becuase the both things are very predispose now. We can talk to all people here who likes cryptocurrency, what will you choose between bitcoin and global coin? It seems like what will you choose between decentralized system and centralized system. It is not good to say a new rival especially you are the old user of bitcoin.

I think he will get a lot of support from every element.  this project will be a successful project.  maybe Facebook coin will create utility and fast and high spread.  but I doubt if fb will be a rival for BTC.  Facebook's popularity cannot defeat BTC.

News outlets certainly like to spice up their headlines. I'm not sure what the point is of referring to this as a rival for Bitcoin when it concerns a stablecoin. It will rival Bitcoin in the way that it offers more stability?  Cheesy

In all seriousness, if this stablecoin is free to transfer from exchange to exchange without KYC bullshit, it will prop up the price of Bitcoin instead of harming it, because that's what every single stablecoin has done so far.

Maybe that this stablecoin will be able to usurp a significant enough chunk of Tether's market share. We'll see how it goes, but it will do more good than harm for Bitcoin and the rest of the cryptos.

I think if Facebook will really do that, then the Facebook coin will definitely have a lot of support and interest and even he will immediately become like some other popular crypto.

Globalistcoin? It will be just more one altcoin among hundreds of them. Only bitcoin is the king of crypto currency. Zuckerberg can use all his influence, money and his gift of the gab to promote his currency, but it will still be an altcoin.
Although I don't doubt it will be a strong centralized altcoin, it's going to have potential to reach the crypto currency top 10.

(I think this thread fits altcoin discussion section).

As other's have pointed out, it could be a stable coin so there's no rivalry here. But it could potentially disrupt the remittances industry and I'm sure that's what Mark is targeting with this coin. It could be altcoin, but the thing is, this might be very centralised and the ledger only privy to their company. So no correlation whatsoever to bitcoin or even considered it a rival.

It's too early to say whether Facebook's coin will be a bitcoin rival. We still don't know the economic model and governance model of their coin. We have to wait for a detailed information about the coin before we come to a conclusion.

We have to ask ourselves after we get detailed information and roadmap about the coin whether it is truly decentralized like bitcoin, what will be the total coin supply, what will be the initial coin allocation and how many coins will be held by Facebook team etc. in order to decide whether it can be a bitcoin rival.

Therefore, let's wait and see what will Zuckerburg bring to the table with his coin to become a bitcoin rival.

Fundamentally this will create a positive trend for all cryptocurrency, especially Bitcoin. At least there are already several large companies that are starting to want to adapt the cryptocurrency.

For rivals I don't think it is very influential, because actually bitcoin has never been displaced by other altcoins as long as the first bitcoin is in the world. Even the ethereum which is being held has all the advantages of innovation cannot outperform the capital of Bitcoin.

I think FB coin will not be able to compete with BTC in prices like today, although we know Zuckerberg has business skills in social media but entering the crypto world is still counted as a beginner. Indeed the price of FB coin is expected to rival BTC but I think the community has a special part in increasing or decreasing prices.

Now, considering all of these things and the very big potential of this Facebook project called as GlobalCoin, do you think that soon we can see Mark Zuckerberg not just the emperor of the social media but also the king of cryptocurrency? Or you think that this should be treated just like a normal (though it is very big) project which might also go wrong if the market will not be responding positively? What is your opinion with the foray of Mark into cryptocurrency and will Globalcoin one day be a rival to that of Bitcoin?
Mark Zuckerberg and facebook are not known for the best of user privacy and i am not sure what they are planning to do with the coin, until there is a working model or a prototype or a white paper regarding the details, i will not trust them in any way possible, what ever coin anyone can come up with, no one can rival bitcoin, all these coins are just replica of bitcoin and just claiming to better, time and market will dictate their fate.

I not say is bad that new coins coming, but i don't think Facebook coin will be more used than Bitcoin and i also think Bitcoin will be for long time number 1 on capitalization and always more money will be put on bitcoin than on altcoins. But indeed we also need some new coins because maybe only on this way new people will come and after see how works a crypto coin will buy also bitcoin.

I believe that mark is not a stupid man and he will do everything at the highest level. Of course there is a chance that something may go wrong, that the project for some reason will not gain due popularity, but I think that Mark will succeed. People trust him and investors who will want to invest in this project will be really very much.

Facebook is involving in the crypto, it is very big news for the crypto community and this thing will bring more people on the board and crypto may be accepted widely. But is FB coin a rival of Bitcoin? Never! The Facebook coin will be used to buy the FB ads and features, it is like the JPM coin! We can get another centralized coin called Facebook or Global coin, but that will not be the rival of Bitcoin. Actually, Bitcoin has no rival, It is the base of crypto, whatever coin or tech comes, they will not be a rival for bitcoin!

enslavement coin coming right up.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eenscggz-Pk this is the future of fb coin  Roll Eyes

Probably so. They do have the data of everyone on it. There will be no escape soon once you are on their radar. We've all seen the issues they were into years ago. Privacy isn't as important to some people though as long as they get money, they could input everything including thee names of their kids, photos and even bloodtype.

They may distribute the coins to facebook users and by that all users will have their own wallet on thie facebook account but before receiving they may have to enter more information and bank account probably.

Mark Zuckerberg not just the emperor of the social media but also the king of cryptocurrency?

I wanted to correct some wrong presumption made by the OP about the words "Mark Zuckerberg not just the emperor of the social media but also the king of cryptocurrency?" Mark will never be king of crypto currency and he's like Gary, Ver etc which are crypto enthuaist because we crypto communities are the king of crypto currencies.

you think that this should be treated just like a normal (though it is very big) project which might also go wrong if the market will not be responding positively?

The project will be big just the rest of other centralized coin which were supported by the institutions and government but it doesnt mean that it will surpass the potential of bitcoin.

What is your opinion with the foray of Mark into cryptocurrency and will Globalcoin one day be a rival to that of Bitcoin?

I respect the fact that Mark step into crypto currency because I believe his intention was one of the reason why we have some group of banks coming together raise a fund in other to create their own crypto because they want to be left behind. But, that doesnt make Globalcoin a rival to bitcoin because it will always be on the list of altcoin.

There is now a name for the cryptocurrency-based payment system that Facebook is planning to debut in 2020 and it is called as GlobalCoin. Indeed, as the name suggest, it would be available globally (well maybe except China, Russia, Iran, North Korea and nations USA is not doing business with) starting with some hand-picked countries. Right now, the team established by Mark to tackle on this project has been communicating with some people involved with regulatory matters to thresh out things so they can start the trial maybe within this year.

With the Facebook empire at the helm and behind the GlobalCoin, people are getting excited and there are now many big investors lining up to be part of the funding circle hoping to snatch part of the estimated $1 billion the project is looking for. With Mark having the Midas touch, investors are thinking that this can be another opportunity of a lifetime. I am not sure though if Facebook will decide to also open the crowdfunding with small investors like in the trending IEOs we have today.

Wow! And of course, there will always be critics of this move by Facebook to join the cryptocurrency craze. There are objecting that what Facebook is getting into is not decentralized and hence can not even be called as genuine cryptocurrency akin to what we see in Bitcoin, Ethereum and the rest of the gang.

Mark Zuckerberg was a guy everyone like his invention in terms of social media which I believe that reputation will give him chance to get many support from varities of invest but we're talking about crypto currencies here not social media.
I once said it in some of my previous post that crypto market have changed and how a certain coin will survive in the market are not measure through thr hype, concept, TPS and previous record for it measure through the attribute I mentioned bitcoin wont have be the top coin till date.

Therefore, i dont see the coin in subject as a rival to bitcoin.
