Hopefully he has security detail protecting him in places. With all the attention he's getting, its easy to become a target for robbers, especially if all your big money came from the casino [which itself is also an attractive target to robbers].
News and social media today didn’t value privacy that much, though it’s also the problem of the winner for exposing himself about his gambling activities. That’s a huge win with your small bet, it’s ok to celebrate but it’s too much if you are going to tell the whole country about your winnings. He’s at risk already, and I hope he can still enjoy that profit with his family without worrying about their safety.

I have a little different opinion about it. Yes, I understand that disclosing such big winnings can be a security threat for gamblers as now everyone would know that this person has a big bank balance. However, do you know that every day we hear people losing money in gambling? These are the few news which show how people become millionaires by spending little on gambling and it really motivates people like me who are yet to win any jackpot.
Think that a person spends only a dollar and win something  like 50,000$, incredible? We don't see such a return elsewhere except gambling.
Gambling is the way where you were able to make such big returns instantly. Similar things happen with cryptocurrency in the long term. But, we don't have the patience to hold.

One need to understand, gambling is the way in which it is possible to turn a dollar into million. It is also the way in which one can start with spending $1 and end up losing millions. When we talk about the big wins, it is also good to think of the loss that could happen out of gambling. Thinking of jackpot and getting motivated through these kind of wins is good, but we should know our limits on trying our luck.

It seems miraculous to me too, how someone could become the owner of so many dollars by completing just a few bets. Moreover, it has been publicized in the head column of a local newspaper. However, if God keeps good luck then no one can stop it.

The news source: @thenationnewspaper

I doubt that the account is from a national newspaper.  Look at how many people are subscribed to that account.  A legit national newspaper account could have more than hundreds of thousand of followers/subscribers if not millions.  I think the national newspaper is just an account name but not literally means that the account is recognized as official national newspaper.

There are principles in writing a news.  It should goes around a fact wherein, it gives an alias if the name shouldn't be exposed, the place of event and many others that supports the incident.  The first sentence alone shows that the news is unreliable (see -  An unidentified man <<< ) and a cut bet slip... how can they get a betslip if the winning man is unidentified plus I think the book maker will not provide players' bet slip to anyone due to privacy law.

Another flaw is that they are able to tell the activity of that man when they already told us that the man is unidentified.. .  The series of events of that news just simply don't sink in.  Cheesy

With regards to winnings, bragging too much about the winnings to the people who know us often results in uncomfortable instances.  So better keep the news of winnings a secret to avoid uncomfortable results.
It is 100% true that a local national newspaper has millions of subscribers but the above newspaper has only few thousand subscribers. Moreover, it is a miraculous and unpleasant fact that a bettor will win $51,000 for just one dollar. I can never accept it as true. Maybe there is a bigger story behind it.

This is why lottery didn’t gave any information for all the winners because it can compromise their security and this should also practice in gambling because again if there’s a huge money here greed people will always look for an opportunity against you. It's not that big reward but still on a country like that, he should be more careful next time. I won’t announce any winnings, i gamble on my on and I will celebrate on my own.

$50k+  is a huge money in fact in a developing country, this amount of money is enough to sustain us for more than 2 decades and enough to put up small business that can further develop our financial status.  So this winning is a life changing event for that person.  It is that, if this event is true, that man's life will never be the same again since he has to be careful for people with bad intention and at the same time the inflow of relatives and friends that will request for financial assistance.  Not saying some religious organization are very professional in this kind of thing (requesting for financial aid and donations for their religious activities and reach out programs)

Apparently the news seems to be true. was published by many news channels:

https://lagospanorama.com/young-man-wins-n38m-sports-betting-with-n800/

https://yemiefash.com/man-wins-n38m-sports-betting-with-n800/

https://www.newtelegraphng.com/man-bets-n800-wins-n38m-prize-money/

Other sites reproducing (copy-pasting) the news doesn't necessarily mean that it is true.  If the research is done by different multiple individuals, there should be discrepancies in the report but all we can see is just a complete copy (same exact content) on all sites.   Plus, I cannot remove the conflicting statement of the unidentified man and the screenshots of the person involved ( I believe that the picture of a person shown is irrelevant to the news) Grin Anyway, I think I had stated my POV, and if it's true, my congratulations to the person involved.

There's a saying people know you when you have money, now on the news people are now following him and that's bad for him that many people know that he hit a huge jackpot, so instead of enjoying his winnings he will be in the spotlight, a spotlight that nobody wants to be in and this is because you have money and you will see the greediness of people while looking at you, there should be a rule on media there that never publish even any part of your body for recognition unless there is a consent, now they put the man in big trouble.

True we all have a piece experience like that.  When are well "blessed" in our finances, people will look at us as the source of their financial salvation and will keep on following us and giving favor to us.  But when we are in financial desperation, only true friends will stay with us and help us in times of our need.

A very typical scenario which people do indeed know you when  you do have the money but if not then they would really be forgotten and that's how reality works. This is why it's really just right that you should really be silent whenever you do win big amounts.

It's never been good to be boastful or tactful about it but there are really times which we can't really able to avoid on doing it because there's really that ego minds us that we are proud on winning something.

Talks about those huge hits then it does really require extreme luck basing up with odds then it's no surprise that no matter how small the chance is but still theres the probabilities.

I think people should learn to keep their success stories away from physical people, because as they joy and praise you physically, secretly, they might not be as much happy as they appear physically.

maybe the guy didn't say anything and the casino guys may have leaked information to attract attention to the casino, because if a person wins a lot of money at casino C and people find out about it then people will run to casino C to create accounts and gamblers because people always tend to copy other people, they always think that since person X was successful so he can also be successful if he copies everything that person X did and the casino guys in the marketing department know about this advertising strategy , I wouldn't be surprised if some casino employee leaked information

If I am eager to share my success story, I prefer to do it online where no body knows me In person, like this forum, doing this offline with family, friends, colleagues, etc.. I think is too risky.

What is or are your opinion(s) on this matter?

your family has to be the most important thing, if one day you are seriously ill, it will be your family members who will be at the hospital every day to bring you food for you to eat for this reason I suggest you always tell your family about your things, don't hide anything from them. if you win the lottery then you have to count the people in your family. the part that I agree with you is that you shouldn't tell friends and be showing off on social media

Lucky guy. In the country of Nigeria one could definitely live a comfortable-enough life with $51k USD. Although technically he won 50k not 51k because he put 1k into the bet, so he just got his 1k back. Still. 50k = Very nice. Kiss

It should be kept in mind that this win is an exceptional and very very rare win. He had greats odds against him and wins like these do not happen often, so nobody should let themselves feel encouraged to run to the next gambling casino in order to put down a 1k bet. Chances are, that 1k will be gone forever or you might win a few more k.

If I were to win 50k in Nigeria the last thing I would want to do is let other people know. The crowd followed him to the mosque as well? Lol. One could say he tried to escape the crowd.

Not 1k bet but just over $1 bet. So his winnings is still almost $51k.
Who would have thought that $1-level bet would give him such fortune? So yes, he is lucky.
Maybe, he was just too excited he couldn't contain his happiness, hence, letting his neighbors know what luck he got.
But if it is my case, I will be mum about it and just let my immediate family know about my fortune so I can share it to them.
Hard to trust these days if someone knew you have some funds. You can't tell what everyone is thinking about your fortune.

If I'd won or got something big, I keep my mouth shut. I don't want any celebrations to happen and I want it to remain lowkey. This is like making some profits in trading, I've done that before and managed to keep my success to myself and never shared it to anyone.

I will also keep my winnings in private because there are lots of people pretending to be friends waiting to exploit us of our financial capability.  It is better to solo the glory and financial gain than being surrounded by these fake people.
It happens at most times when they've figured out that you've got money and they're in need. So, that's what we just have to do when we win big amounts because those people will show the truest of them when they see someone who's in good condition and has money to be sucked by them.

It's better to be alone on these times of success rather than being known by people surrounding you and their only main goal is to ask for share and that's for sure. When you are in that type of crowd following you, that's one thing for sure that they'll ask from you.

True, wicked people is always there trying to take advantage of other people and suck their finance dry if they see an opportunity.  So better be careful than sorry.
And as someone who knows the real people that have been there for you at your lowest. Look back at them and give them a helping hand if you recognize them being with you even in bad times.

That's what the essence of sharing it with those people who you really know.

Don't you all think that in the course of we trying to show off this kind of winnings to friends, families, colleagues etc, we end up drawing known and unknown enemies to ourselves?

I agree with you that this kind of news is not safe enough to be publicized but for winning such a huge amount of money the casino will take it up and have such person under their record history and involve the media as well about such winning, i think it's part of the casino's rules on every huge amount of winning a gamble is fortunate to make, they must air it to the media and make a live broadcast/celebration party for such a winner, even though we all know that isn't proper enough for privacy reasons.

The heart of man is desperately wicked, Man destroy and kill his fellow man out of envy and jealousy, they celebrate your success with you in your front, but when you are not there, they device means to bring you down, or even kill you.

you're right and it has happened before on several occasions whereby people are killing each other because of money, put if such gambler is wise enough he should know how to make a disappearance from how to get him tracked down.

congratulation to the guy who won and yeah I agree that one should learn or know when to share their success story to avoid unnecessary problems that might/will come from people asking him for money.

anyway, I kind of find it funny because a few days ago someone posted a thread regarding what "will you do if you won $50k", and then this thread is posted where the gambler won roughly $50k.

This is one of those insane wins for sure and it proves the fact that it's possible to win big from gambling as long as luck sides with you big-time.

For example, I remember this particular woman who won millions through a 10 pounds bet or something. That win blew my mind away when I first heard of it. It's like winning a lottery though the odds in this case are way better.

Also, I do agree with op about keeping such big wins private since boasting about them isn't something a wise person would do.

Last week, on the 14th of October, 2022, A Nigerian Man used 800 naira (which is equivalent to $1.072 in today's NGN/DOLLAR exchange rate) to bet on sports...

He later won a whopping 38,317,137 Nigerian naira (which is equivalent to $51,363.454 in today's NGN/DOLLAR exchange rate).

         ....How luckier can one get?😁😁😁

Below is a quote of the entire article

Quote
An unidentified man has become a multi-millionaire after placing a bet on sports betting site with only N800.

The man, who instantly became a celebrity in a viral video, was seen with neigbhours trooping to the betting centre to confirm his N38million win after words spread out.

The system screen showed the man placed the multiple bet on Friday, October 14, 2022 with N800 only and won N38,317,130.00

After confirming his win, the man headed straight to the mosque to perform ‘Salat’ (daily obligatory prayer for Muslims). The crowd that had gathered to confirm his win followed him to the mosque, kept hailing him even as he ignored them and carried on with ablution for his prayers.

Here is the Reference link..., But please beware of too many ads on the website --this is why I decide to quote the whole article above.

NOW, HERE IS MY REASON FOR MAKING THIS THREAD..
The book of proverbs(from the Bible) says "A prudent(wise) man knows when to keep his mouth shut and when to speak"

....

What is or are your opinion(s) on this matter?
if we calculate from the capital he spent, he won 50x, that's really great luck. if the man publishes his victory openly then it will threaten his personal life and maybe the people around him. keep it normal it's very good, especially what I saw on the news that the crime rate in Nigeria is quite high.

What is or are your opinion(s) on this matter?

This is the first thing that popped into my head when I read the article you shared.

The first thing that you must do is to keep the excitement to yourself. While it may be difficult not to celebrate, you are actually putting yourself in a dangerous position to your neighbors and peers. Given that Nigeria is a relatively poor country, that kind of amount can definitely turn upside down the life of a person. In addition, your life can be potentially at risk once the information spreads as kidnapping and violence is rampant in that country.

I do hope that the person claiming the money manages it well. Personally, I would leave their country and start a new life somewhere else which is safer.
