Under.  I'd say we'll get news this month.  No evidence at all, I just feel it in my water.

Time for some speculation and another over/under:

When will eASIC issue an official press release?

I'll put the over/under at: Sept. 15, 2013.
Under, or there is no way we would be able to meet the timetable of producing miners by late October/early November. The competition is already close to tape-out. It has already been over a month since we've gotten any truly substantive news about the NRE.

Yeah, I really do understand people getting antsy over this. Especially considering the environment we're in. Things move so quickly in this space, weeks feel like months.

Good points, I'm sure when btc was struggling up from the 60's it made more sense to use pre order and hold btc in the rising market.

As far as the statement from Ken, I think that is obviously an excerpt from the upcoming eASIC press release. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw news tomorrow despite everyone thinking it will be Friday or later. Posting that is obscure enough that he wouldn't be violating any NDA since there is nothing about a deal with eASIC.

In fact, I am rather optimistic and think that the last month has not been solely spent on raising the NRE (it just doesn't add up to me since the exchange volume is millions per day); I think they paid it a week or two ago and started the design process but have been tied down with the NDA until eASIC publicly announces their partnership.

Yes pre-order money was put into NRE cost, I don't think Ken goes to the casino with it.
I am not so sure that pre-order money was using for the NRE since why would we need to convert $1M to cash if that were the case? I also recall them being refundable at the higher price, since Ken and others were talking about not spending the money in case people want refunds; the non-refundable part seems new.

I think it is more likely that it will be spent on the "RE" (renewable expenditures / production cost)  but of course money is fungible so the only difference would be the BTCUSD rate. If pre-order money was used to fund the NRE then that would be good for us because we would reap the maximum benefit of the increased exchange rate.

I am aware, and not particularly thrilled about, taking pre-orders (which is what they are, not items for sale, but items for pre-order)

The customers pay up front for a ticket in the que so so these orders are for sale, they are not reservations and non-refundable.

Have a look at your own companies website and you might learn a thing or two:

'This item is  non-cancelable non-returnable.'

Just because other companies didn't deliver on time with their pre-orders doesn't mean we shouldn't take them that would be illogical. Apple take pre-orders so why not us?

Yes pre-order money was put into NRE cost, I don't think Ken goes to the casino with it.

Let me remind you that this is a speculation thread. I did inquire into the purpose for the quote and was given nothing aside from the clipboard comment.

I appreciate your input. If you don't want to speculate on things about ActM I recommend you go to the main thread where people bitch at each other incessantly. Cheesy

Yes but your post wasn't speculation it was a statement in the blindingly obvious.

The sun is going to rise tomorrow - is that speculation too?

Frankly, until we have a product, we should relish our dark horse status. The less known we are pre-product (and post IPO) the better as we can avoid all the negative attention (ignoring the arguments that there's no such thing as bad publicity) associated with every part of the ASIC process that isn't mass, timely, cost-effective delivery. In addition, our dark horse status will keep share price low for as long as possible allowing us long-termers to build our positions as more coins become available to us so that we can enjoy greater divs long term, make some nice btc short term by wisely trading the inevitable spike-over-fair-value once our chips... well... exist, and enjoy the good-for-the-soul smugness that will come from backing the right [dark] horse all along.

I mostly agree but I'm not sure if any of you noticed but we do have Pre-Orders available NOW. We need profile raising without a doubt, we have items for sale today.

I am aware, and not particularly thrilled about, taking pre-orders (which is what they are, not items for sale, but items for pre-order). There is so much, arguably justified, vitriol thrown at our higher profile competitors such as HashFast and Cointerra for taking pre-orders that should make us think twice.

In a related note, what happens to the pre-order money? Is it used to help pay for expenses such as the NRE? Is it refundable? Payable as dividends? If it's refundable than a majority of it should be kept on hand doing thereby being more of a liability (cost of securing money) than an asset. If it's non-refundable, then that will breed even more distaste, again, a la HashFast.

It seems to me that pre-orders are simply not a good idea for us, though I am open to being corrected.

Hi kleeck,

I would say that is beyond speculation and more into the realm of stalking.

If you wanted to know if that was an excerpt from a 'future press release' why didn't you ask Ken during this exchange??

It clearly isn't by the way because if it was the terminology would be different: instead of 'we need...solutions' it would say 'we will provide solutions'. So it is a copy from Kens clipboard where he keeps statements of intent. Perfectly reasonable.

Your post is a complete waste of time to be honest, it's no secret that at some point in the future (and most probably the next 2 weeks) ACtM will issue a press release and in that mention providing solutions for customers. Hardly a revelation.

I'd just like to toss out some data I fond interesting on IRC today.

-Begin speculation-

Ken posted:

Quote
According to Ken Slaughter, CEO of VMC, "We need competitive, efficient and future-proof solutions for our customers, that assure them they are investing in quality hardware that doesn't get outdated fast and arrives at their doorstep quickly, with no delays".

Upon further inquiry, we had this exchange.

Quote
AMC__, you're leaving me hanging and scouring Google for that quote! Where is it from?

I found that intriguing. Was this an interview? An article to be written? ...

Or...

Part of Ken's contribution to the eAsic press release?!?! Wait, do they even get company input on those?

Seagate:

“eASIC has demonstrated innovative custom silicon technology with our industry-leading solid state hybrid drives (SSHDs)”, said Rocky Pimentel, chief sales and marketing officer at Seagate. “eASIC’s ability to quickly develop custom differentiated solutions while meeting stringent cost, power and performance requirements will enable us to rapidly deliver storage solutions and improve our product position in both SSD and SSHD’s.”

(source: http://www.easic.com/easic-announces-strategic-investment-by-seagate/)

Violin Memory:

“We looked at a number of ASIC platform choices for implementing our custom FLASH controllers,” commented Kevin Rowett, vice president of engineering for Violin Memory Inc. “We opted to collaborate with eASIC for reducing cost and power consumption because their Nextreme-2T NEW ASICs enabled us to quickly migrate from FPGAs, and inexpensively ramp our solutions to high volume production.” added Rowett.

(source: http://www.easic.com/violin-memory-selects-easic-for-flash-memory-arrays/)

Yes. They do.

The difference between these and Ken's is that he doesn't actually write "eAsic", but the implications are all over it. EAsic is the sole reason that VMC can accomplish any of the items listed in Ken's clipboard quote. So, if Ken is writing his section for the release then I think it's safe to say that "soon" is...

...probably two weeks away.

-End speculation-

The press will be looking for evidence of legitimacy, so the time to do it is post eASIC press release.

I think this is sound advice. If we start waving our hands for people to come have a look at the ActM enterprise, and they don't see legitimacy, it'll be like The Boy Who Cried Wolf trying to get them to have another look once things are more settled.

I think timing is key with pushing ActM to journalists. A question here or there about why no love for ActM is good but we should be careful to wait for the eASIC deal before making a big push for awareness. No reason to jump up and down saying "hey look here" where there is not much to see.
