The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Rough summary of what this means: If you post once per day on average, then you will eventually get the maximum number of activity points that you can get. Posting more than once per day on average is useless for increasing activity. The maximum number of activity points you can get is 1 per day, but your activity score only updates every two weeks. Therefore, it will take about 100 days to get 100 activity if you post once per day on average.

Activity is updated every hour.

The new membergroup limits work like this:
GroupRequirement
Brand New0 posts
Newbie(none)
Jr. Memberactivity: 30
Memberactivity: 60
Full Memberactivity: 120
Sr. Memberactivity: 240
Hero Memberactivity: 480

I'm not 100% sure that the membergroups work correctly. Tell me if you see any bugs.

It seems the Activity updated for me daily in the beginning but now its like in every 2 weeks, any reason for this?

Is it 'activity' points add up day tomorrow or next Tuesday? Not like me at all but I seem to have lost my perception of time.

Tomorrow.

So I saw people with less points and activity then me having Hero Status .......when I will have mine Sad .

You'll be a Hero on the 15th of September providing you make a post in each fortnightly period. As others have mentioned you cannot achieve Hero rank before you get 480 activity.

User SpiryGolden is talking about may have deleted many of his/her posts which may have lead to <480 activity but rank maybe still a Hero Member.

IIRC only Newbie, Hero, and Legendary members don't get demoted normally. Maybe I'll fix it at some point, but it's not really a big deal.

It is impossible for users with less than activity than yours to be a Hero Member. All members will upgrade to hero once they got 480 activity

which users? can you give us a link to their profile?
I don't think you can get to Hero Rank without reaching 480 activity first. and some people writes "activity: xx" on their personal message as a joke (see tomatocage)

You need 480 activity to get hero status. Check the OP.

I didn't say all members, but it's logical as time goes on that Legendary will become more and more common and as common as Hero is now and the longer time passes this becomes even more so. If the new ranks double in time every time they're added it will be fine though you could make the existing ranks longer to achieve.

Looking more closely at what you said, I'm not sure that I actually disagree with you.  My point was sort of that if you were to look at the probability mass of Hero or Legendary as a propotion of all accounts then I'd suspect they aren't actually getting more common on that metric, or at least not very much more common.  And I'm thinking that if you had only one more rank (maybe two) that you'd see those proportions stabilize due to account loss/inactivity.  Maybe we agree then?

New ranks can be added when and if neccesary. Eventually Legendary will become as common as Hero so something will likely have to change.

I'm not sure that's completely true.  We have to assume that some accounts are abandoned, lost, etc.  You may be right that Theymos may add more ranks, but I think that as long as some group of people quit and never come back (at each rank) then successively harder ranks should become rarer and rarer.  At this moment a lot of the older ranks are merely here because they got started before more recent accounts.   But eventually, if you add enough ranks, the attrition rate should mean that you could have a top rank which had a stable portion against lower ranks merely because of the fact that some people are going to quit, lose their account, or die.

By the time I manage to reach Legendary the novelty will have worn off Sad There could be 1000+ Legendary Members then? I envy the title but also the fact that they were able to be very early adopters & gobble up 'real' cheap coins. Chance of a lifetime, some guys attained unreal wealth.

Fair play to them I guess.
I wonder if theymos will introduce a new member category, I know it's been lightly discussed but nothing came of it.
I wonder what the name could be, what's better than a legend Grin

480 activity seems so far away for me though Sad I'm only on 294. It'll be worth the wait when I get upgraded though. Legendary Member status is like 3 years altogether isn't it? Now that is a long time, pure dedication.
How many Legendary Members do we have on bitcointalk now, anybody like to hazard a guess?
Time actually seems to pass by pretty quickly when you look back. Assuming that you're active for the 3 years you should be legendary by then.
As far as I know when it was introduced there was about ~200 legendary members. I would say 3 to 4 hundred right now?
when it was first introduced, IIRC, there were roughly 30 legendary members.

Now there are between 330, and 360 legendary members.

Out of curiosity where do you get those numbers?
The original number of legendary members is something that I recall theymos saying at the time. The number of current members is from searching for legendary members. There were 12 pages of results and 30 results per page. The last page may have less then 30 results but I didn't care enough to check to get an exact number.

Note that some "VIP" members and some "Staff" members may also qualify for "Legendary" status, but may be listed on the member list with their other status instead of "Legendary".  As such, the total number of members that qualify as "Legendary" is likely to be a bit higher.

If you exclude the "VIP" and "Staff" members that would qualify as Legendary, then it looks like there are about 340.
