It depends on the project. The problem with older altcoins is that they have a lot of bagholders looking to exit for a profit. New projects pump easier but are more likely to be scams. One thing I do is invest in promising projects that are older but that haven't mooned yet, like ICP and 0xMR.

This is why I don't like listening and believing to strangers because they can only lead you to dangers. Like for example the one that was said to you by a random person and I bet he also recommends you a specific coin for you to invest in. That was a common trick also known as shilling.

Those people are either devs of the coins they are promoting or they are being paid to do so and though it can be true that you can earn something if you got lucky that the new coin you invest in pump but most of the times they won't but you have more better chance to earn on a much older project as they have a history already and most importantly they have a unique characteristic which helps attract more investors.
