Actually it depends on the altcoin type, you have to study first the road map to determine its potential in the future. Buying altcoins involves risk because we cannot determine whether it will succeed or will just become a shit coin but for me that is worth buying calculating the risk and rewards, more benefits if it succeed.

Because the price goes when people dump, when the price goes low. People take the chance and buy as much as they can and hold again until it rises.

I had about 1 bitcoin worth of various "dead" coins. I am not sure if these coin will resurrrect or not.

nem looks promising. It's not a new project but has had steady growth. I bought a stake at launch but lost interest after the founder was found having more stakes than allowed. I thought this project would be dead but was surprised that it has risen to be a top ten coin and the same group of developers and people still working on the project, not bad for a coin that was suppose to be a clone of nxt. Maybe nxt will rise and surprise us again.

Exactly. All of these alt coins implement a unique technology, whenever it is smart contracts/dapps, or decentralized exchanges, or even cloud storage from within the blockchain. I think that all of these work well together in a unified blockchain system. Imagine that instead of having a coin for each technology, you get a complete system with all the features of the above mentioned coins.

As for me, my most favorite are Ethereum, Maidsafe and BitShares. They are one of the most advanced alt coins out there, with very huge potential. Take a look at ETH for instance, in which is one of the most popular cryptos out there next to Bitcoin.

Thanks for the list. I am new to this altcoin exchange so I am still getting some knowledge about this. So this list should be the one I should be going for if I want to do some trading right? I thing ETH is getting a good price.
