I also like bitshares btw, coin with a heavy and wealthy userbase.
Geo coin looking nice to me. And once in the while you can double your investment, but you'll need to wait longer time.

I've been reading through this forums for the past few weeks and all I see is "this coin is dead" or "everything is a shit coin". Is there any alt coin with potential to invest in or is it only bitcoin? I don't mean like a few here and there, I mean over 100 coins.

This is true as everybody is patiently waiting to see if it indeed will list on bitrex soon. But they are in limbo right now as all services have halted. They are saying that they will increase 4x but that is pure speculation cause there is no way to mine them as they only have 1 faucet to get the coin in the first place. I would pick Gridcoin (GRC), as it is one of the more interesting coins out there. This process is decentralized among all nodes, there is no central server issuing all coins like it is for example the case with Curecoin. In some blocks this consenus is saved in the blockchain and the reward one gets when staking a block is proportional to how much research was recently done for BOINC by this researcher.
