Thanks to Ethereum Chain which altcoins are built on, they've still got a lot of future ahead them. I see altcoins as the currency that would soon become part of our daily lives.
But not all the alts will be used in the future in everyday life, I think only Bitcoin and popular alts will be used, fraudulent coins will not be needed.

Alt coins will always have a role in function but will likely always be measured in terms of % of BTC.

I think its fully depends on specific altcoin team work. I can memories hear about ETH and XRP compition some days ago. When market was down then XRP team work was so high that ETH goes in third position. So in this way if any alt coin team work make their plan good in market they can reach in good mark as well as XRP. So i think there is nothing to worry about too many altcoins.
if I think intense competition will also give a good coin value. because each coin also has a different function.

in my opinion there are a lot of new coins that appear instead showing that the growing world of crypto, the existence of many new coins will only affect old coins that have no power in the market, old coins that have the potential will certainly survive in the competition of coins in the market

I think each project has a new concept and a new view that eludes the concept of earlier projects. This concept of competition is not real, each project sells its own idea and once the idea of the previous is better than the current, people go for the previous better idea.

goes to the stock exchange a lot of coins but will only have the strongest ,most popular . 
I think altcoin will be more and more created, but altcoin will be degraded a lot later. I think altcoin at the top of coinmarketcap can still win the sympathy of investors. but altcoin is in the middle to bottom rank, they have to fight so as not to get out of cryptocurrency. for me ethereum is still feasible to invest, especially next year ethereum 2.0 will be held

Considering the present instability in the price of ethereum, I am trying to imagine how profit is being made, because I believe this is not where ethreum's price should be considering the takeoff of 2017. At least, bitcoin has improved this year and I expected ETH to do the same. If that is the case, then I see no profit coming from it now, except you have invested in it and still holding. Most traders trade on other altcoins that can bring short term profit, bitcoin inclusive.

Of course, everything can not stay like this event, altcoin's future will start growing. As you mentioned we will see alt season, most investors think, it will happen 2020. Indeed, there is more chance of happening in 2020. But l don't agree only this opinion that, if BTC will start growing, everything can not remain the same. BTC would grow, altcoins definitely comply with BTC. Random market pumps don't give the strong impulses to the higher timeframe price action. Pure price action suggest to stop on the smaller timeframe and analyze the market before jumping the altcoins. Altcoins will not reach those moments in 2017 unless the low Bitcoin domination in the total marketcap rate.

New coins have the potential to compete with old coins. But new coins still have to show good performance and products because competition in altcoin is very tight, besides that new coins continue to appear in the market with newer products and features.
More and more altcoins indeed make competition tighter, and of course only altcoins that have a high community will survive. Only Altcoin who has the trust of the community will still have value, and this clearly affects the price of old Altcoins like Ethereum. And the effect can be very high if the new Altcoin has high potential and trust from the community.
Maybe their will be no affect from the old altcoins, Maybe it can be more attractive those old altcoins from the future. We all know they are to many new altcoins coming it cannot be surpass from the old altcoins. And maybe in a future they are some new altcoins be going into the top.
