Let's hope even lower.  S2 just dropped to $1,450 with coupon shipping the 26th.

...when miners swarm it like Stannis Baratheon's forces riding into the trees north of the wall, to get their next buy-a-miner fix.

That fag couldn't conquer a mall full of teenagers.
Only a fool would think he is the one true king.

Wow, I wasn't expecting the GoT reference in a sales thread about ASICs.

BITMAIN will clean out the BTC Toffs with the first couple of builds. The equilibrium price should be around 0.75 BTC after that.

...and dropping daily...yeah, right... Huh

Edit...:

0.75 BTC...before or after the coupons... Grin

Here, here! Round 3 of the ASIC race is just getting started. If someone believes we are going to continue in the next few months with only 14% difficulty adjustments, they'd be foolish. And the time will be much shorter than 12 days between adjustments. Many of us have lived through this before and it is going to be brutal.

Hence we need a S3 starting price less than $1/GH, preferably $.8/GH

Competitive pricing will create a very large market for the S3, help secure the network, and encourage re-investment.

$.8/GH feels like the sweet spot.  Let's hope!

All kings including the wannabes are fools, it takes stupidity to piss your life away trying to be one when you can piss your life away staring at your miner mining BTC without all that back stabbing horseshit.  Grin

I love how bitmain is so transparent about how they fuck over the mining community, which is the practice amongst all ASIC manufactures ... but bitmain uses it as marketing =) quite clever.

-----

OK.. how exactly his he doing this?  buy offering instock miners?  that work?

No, note I said every asic manufacture does it.
Look at the pricing slope. These things cost a few hundred, if that. Yet they charge an astronomical amount more to ensure miners make only a tiny fraction of profit.

Bitmain is smart though, they use that very fact as a marketing point to be like "look how our price curve allows miner to roi!!!" ... =P

Which, I know is inevitable, but just goes to show how desperate the mining community continually desires to be "lead to the slaughter" and give power to these evil companies.

I see your point, but that's just like any business in the sense that they need to sell their products at a profit.

Quote
These things cost a few hundred, if that.
Are you forgetting:
1) $5+(?) million in NRE costs.
2) ASIC design experience
3) Staff wages
4) Office rent and operating costs
5) All the other myriad expenses when running a business

I can't just give Joe Bloggs on the street $200 and he'll produce a Bitcoin ASIC miner for me.

Disagree:

A) He is not starting from scratch. A typical engineering staff would be compiling changes and new ideas for the next iteration. NRE $250k in China tops.
B) Do you think BITMAIN would let his ASIC staff just wander off? These guys will have a piece of the company.
C) Supported by existing revenues.
D) Supported by existing revenues.
E) Supported by existing revenues.

I'm not Chinese, but there are two Chinese stories/sayings that can describe what Bitmain is  not:

1) To drain the pond to catch the fish. BITMAIN has a long term perspective.

2) The story about the bear with arms full of fish who sees another fish, tries to grab it and loses everything.  BITMAIN's philosophy is that if his customers make money, he makes money IMHO.

Let all miners just agree that will all be massively disappointed with 2 things.
1/ whatever the price BITMAINTECH comes out with for the s3
2/ how slow their site will load when miners swarm it like Stannis Baratheon's forces riding into the trees north of the wall, to get their next buy-a-miner fix.

guys, in your calculation i'm not seeing any reference of a customs fee, that in this case is a pain in the ass for a decent ROI. At least let's check that bitmain is declaring low values (like the amazing 120 USD computer gaming gateway Cheesy )

no customs to the usa for this item.

Well at least you have a better chance of a decent ROI than a lot us us then.  Tongue

Even at 0.9 BTC I wouldn't be jumping at it, due to the extra charges just to get it into the UK.

We (Europe, or infact UK) need a trade agreement with China like the USA has - no import tax... If I was USA I could buy more kit cheaper - how is that fair?

[edit]

Today I paid £680 ($1155.17, EUR 850.42) for 3 S2's - import tax...

Suckers...Move to US... Grin

We get killed in other ways and you know it Zig...lol

And all of you claiming well screw them cause I won't buy it over xx price do you really think Bitmaintech gives a flying [curse word]. This thread is only a few hours old, they haven't announced a shipping date OR price yet and there are already 200+ replies and three different people looking to put together a group buy. Bitmaintech is going to sell these things like shovels in a blizzard whether you buy one or not.

Glow Stick Dance!
At a diff increase of 18%, $.15kwh, 500gh, 400watt the S3 mines less than 1 BTC before it operates in the RED, if it starts mining today. And that is after 179 days of exposure to the risk that the network hash rate won't go ballistic.

There is absolutely no way anyone in their right mind should consider paying 1 BTC for an S3

the difficulty increases are no longer 18%/jump. Its closer to 14%/jump if you average the last 5 or so, and its visibly decreasing. (the network is no longer doubling every month - not sure if anyone noticed it now takes 7-10 weeks per doubling)

We have been blessed with a short respite. It is about to get much much worse.

Excited to wait till the supply exceeds demand... at this rate shouldn't be too far away. KNC at 20nm, and multiple other companies at 28nm.

I will buy 1 at 1 BTC. Evaluate if it's as solid as the S1 then if its as good or better then I hope there are S3 coupons waiting for me in my Bitmain account to buy more Smiley
zero chance they will be 1btc in 3 days. More like 2btc. bet.

only a crazy person buys one at 2 btc.

an s-1 was as low as .33 btc after coupon  so 2.5 the hash and the  same power usd means ii is worth  2.5 x .33 = .825 btc

I figure 1btc is over pricing it just a bit.   Since 2.5 x .4 gets you 1 btc.

A 600 usd price kills the   AM rk-box

 a 1200 usd price for the s-3 makes the rk-box a steal

The real issue was the s-2 was a stone cold act of overpricing gear.

Or should I say     "A sucker is born every minute"  P.T. Barnum IIRC

And I purchased   better then any shit corsairs
 500
600 watt gear for my ants.
I have all 750 watt and up gear.

+1

All my PSU's are 750+ Watts too... Wink

Price needs to be under $1/GH

There's a lot of competitive products in the $1-$1.5/GH range, so if they do price it nicely around $1/GH they'll sell extremely well.

there is zero chance these will be less than $1000 US. bet.

I don't think there is zero chance, but I do get that they would be significantly undercutting their S2 product. In that case they would either deeply discount the remaining S2 stock or else they are already nearly out of stock on them. By pre-announcing the S3 I suspect their S2 stock is low.
There no Bitmain products for sale at any of there outlets. None. The S3 will be the main focus and a huge winner with giant demand $1000 bare minimum. Prob more like $1300. I would bet on it

...and I can buy 2 and a half Rockminer's RX-Boxes for $1300...hashing @ 460MH * 2.5 = 1150MH total...

The SP30 will be 6TH / 2.8kW / 2U very soon - bitmain needs a similar pro-level mining device. T
