Btw I just noticed that we now have more than 100 places listed on CoinMap. Thank you all and keep up the good work!

I think what you want is to copy entries from this wiki page to OpenStreetMap and then just embed coinmap into this page.
Exactly. The main problem is the second one.

Ciao!

It would be great to see CoinMap integrated here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Real_world_shops

Amazing job, stick!

  • Link to one of well known OSM bugs sites to help people report new places
Use the new Notes feature, instead of the old OpenStreetBugs, that's deprecated.

Notes could be the feature you are searching for queuing new entries.
[EDIT]

[/EDIT]

I was searching on openstreetmap and doesn't exist tag for merchants that allow online sales. The good of openstreetmap is that we can use any tag we want. So I was thinking that we could have, as our standard tag name, something like: web_merchant=yes or online_buying=yes.
OSM mailing-lists are the right site for discussing these problems.

Thank you for your work!

I just added "OpenStreetMap Fundraising Rally" dialog to CoinMap. OpenStreetMap projects needs a new database server and is seeking for donations. Read the details in the dialog and donate if you can. Thanks!

Can a private person share contacts for local bitcoin exchange activity?

Basically you have to understand that this is a map. When I find something on a map I expect it to be exactly there and if I don't I am disappointed. People move, buildings usually not.

It's looking good. Only for businesses? Similar to localbitcoins and such?

Well, a whole GUI flow that automates OSM is perhaps not quite as lightweight as a form backed by some volunteers. What happens if someone spams OSM via coinmap with places that don't exist, etc. Fully automated solutions are harder and might not be necessary here.

Yeah, something lightweight such as that makes sense to start with.

Maybe something like: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.1838831

I would echo the concern about how easy it is to add places though. Full blown OSM editing seems a bit complicated for a business to list themselves. Maybe you could have a queue of free-form reports and volunteers who like editing maps can do the work needed to make it all work for OSM?

Good idea. Maybe just Google Docs Form will do... Will think about it.

I just launched http://coinmap.org/

It's a map showing places where Bitcoin is accepted. All you have to do is to add payment:bitcoin=yes tag to your venue in OpenStreetMap. Venues are added automatically (database is updated every 15 minutes). The map also tries to determine the type of the venue from OSM tags and assign the correct icon.

Stick, this is very slick.  Well done!

Keep up the good work!

One other thing that'd be great is integration with the Android wallet app so if you spend Bitcoin in a place, you can mark it as "shop that accepts Bitcoin" and it'll geolocate the current business and fill out an addition request automatically. I am guessing OSM doesn't have a whole lot of business data, but you could use the Google Maps API to figure out what your current business location is and then submit the free form addition request so a volunteer can patch up OSM. Or just allow both Google and OSM to be used.

Bug report:

It's not really a bug. And next time please use an issue tracker in github for bug reports. Forum is not a good media for this.
You're right, I didn't notice the GitHub link. But why is this not a bug?

Bug report:

Open http://coinmap.org/
Go to the left, around the world. The map is empty (you can see the countries, but none of the badges). This means that there are multiple maps one next to each other, but the badges are located only in the “main” map.

I just added permalink feature. Everytime you move a map URL is updated so you can use this link to return to the exactly same map zoom you currently see ...

Well, they can't be compared since Google Maps is not Google Data. Google Maps is not data.

OpenStreetMap(OSM) on the other hand is data, so no real comparison can be made with Google Maps since Gmaps use either prerendered maps from their own private data store or they show satellite/aerial imagery.

In simple practical terms your data is stored on bitcoin.travel but on coinmap.org your data gets stored on OpenStreetMap.

CoinMap just shows places that have the tag payment:bitcoin=yes Smiley
Any more questions? I would be glad to answer them  Cheesy
My question wasn't about comparing Google Maps to OpenStreetMap but comparing bitcoin.travel to coinmap.org
Like, which one has more or better features? Or, if I have a shop, where should I announce myself?

I see there's another service similar to this: http://bitcoin.travel/
Some differences are that it uses Google Maps, and apparently there's a small fee for being listed.

What do you think?
