7870 I not new buy on a warranty for $85 and 7950 for $95 privately
and socket free
Congrats, but I can only find the few left for >150$. So yours are probably not new and have been used before, even if they still have warranty. Also, they eat all your power away. If you're on free electricity, no probs, but else...

+ You're in the wrong thread, pal Tongue

Just a little, there are so many of us here that we wont admit to AMD being more efficient when it comes to power.
Your biggest bill is always power, you spend $80 on a 300W card and you still have to pay for the power every year.

You pay $280 on a 50W card and you have paid more initially but less in the long run

0.3Kw * 24H * 365 days = 2628Kw @ $0.10 = $262.8
0.05Kw * 24H * 365 days = 438Kw @ $0.10 = $43.8

Year 1:
$80 + $262.80 = $342.88
$280 + $43.80 = $323.80

Year 2:
$80 + $262.80 + $262.80 = $605.60
$280 + $43.80 + $43.80 = $367.60

Difference: $238

It doesnt matter how you say it, or what card you have. If it isn't energy efficient, and you pay for power, you lose. Yes one may do more hashing, but over 2 years, the more power hungry card would have to do twice as many hash's to be worth it.

You can't argue basic math. Now imagine the difference over 10 or 20 GPU's

750ti +cryptonote (monero,xmr)=? hesh

275? unless there was some recent improvement
amd 7950 + monero= 550 h
amd 7870 + monero= 420 h
nvidia lol

Unless you know of 7950/7870s that only draw 50W of power and cost only 130$ new, Nvidia is still pretty efficient Wink Tongue

Me, Myself & I

amd 7950 + monero= 550 h
amd 7870 + monero= 420 h
nvidia lol

I doubt that overclocking to reach those numbers is making them power inefficient to mine monero. Only if the power is free of charge, than 7870 and 7950 can be profitable with so high overclock...  Undecided

For anyone wondering, cudamining.co.uk has been down for around 36 hours now. I have had 6 machines fail in the last 2 days so the server hasn't been able to be fixed yet

noticed it yesterday, i needed something there but the site keeps loading forever

yeh because the server is fully off. Re-installs get to the login screen and then keep rebooting for ever.
all storage drives got completely locked out so even linux couldnt open them.... fun times

and we are back online

mmh, still down for me

Does someone have a hashrate for the GTX 980 on x11?
How does she compete to the others?

http://cryptomining-blog.com/3503-crypto-mining-performance-of-the-new-nvidia-geforce-gtx-980/
It's better to buy loads of 750ti's though, for the price a 980 goes. But to reach ROI, even with 750ti's, you'll need some fairy dust and magic too Cheesy

+1

750ti is still the best card for mining...

It's about the same efficiency as the v2 280x cards...

Nvidia mining isn't all that good to be honest, with the lack of API support and no ability to tweak settings, ATI is still where it's at for mining...

Thanks

So with the current miner the GTX980 is about 15% faster than my old GTX690
I will wait for the GTX980 ti then.

I don't really want to buy them for mining but for rendering.  But you know mining could become profitable any time again then I want to know what I can expect.

I bought Radeon crads for mining a few months ago. But I can't say that they made me happy. They came with too many problems and limits for my needs so whenever possible I will avoid them in the future.

But I have to say nvidias card  performance and price politics doesnt makes me happy eighter right now. Maybe I simple expect too much.

1. " bit hacking it "
2. or write a new compiler.

I think I will go for option 2

Writing a new compiler, as you probably know, is a massive undertaking. You're one dude. Just patch in the opcodes - you'll thank me when you've done something besides writing a compiler from now until the end of your life Tongue

Hehe. The nvidia compiler is a 2 pass compiler CUDA->PTX->Native. What I do is this:

CUDA->FastCa$h(PTX)->Native

I simply inject a pass that will format the PTX code (txtfile) remove registers and insert constants in the statements

The Fa$tCa$h compiler first pass is already done by a friend of mine in one evening.

ability to tweak ? There is visual studio for that...
(and there is practically nobody to tweak, that's why usually there is shitload of message asking for somebody else config... meaning the less possibility to tweak, the better for everybody... and the modo should thank us... less to read too  Grin)

those hash aren't optimized and if you have multiple rigs, no matter what you guys say, but a 970 is miles ahead vs a 750ti, less consumption for each rig less additional components to buy(the biggest difference) and less space, no comparison at all if you are running a farm

if you have 1 rig then i could agree

I don't feel that Nvidia mining is all bad. Power wise I think it is more efficient.

We have not given the devs any reason to continue making Nvidia miners better. What I mean by reason is actually donations.
