"Moving on to more detailed benchmarks. In AMD titles, like Tomb Raider or Battlefield 4 the difference is almost nonexistent. Other games follow the same path. We have a 5% (Tomb Raider) to 38% (COD) performance difference. The average is 20%, so it’s safe to assume that we are looking at 10-15% difference.
Let’s not forget Radeon R7 260X has 896 Stream Processors and 56 Texture Units, so it’s quite obvious that Maxwell is more powerful on architectural level, providing better performance with almost twice less power consumption.

There is one key part that wasn’t covered yet. Because of extremely low TDP the clocks speeds suffered. NVIDIA had to choose the lowest possible clocks to obtain 60W. For that reason Maxwell GM107 GPU has extreme overclocking potential. In fact you will even find cards with 28% factory-overclocking.

Long story short, you will easily be able to obtain 1200 MHz clock, but only with the cards equipped with additional power connectors."

Looking forward to these...

i don´t know about risers, my cards are just sitting on the board with one free slot in between.

well i don´t know about others, but i´m not having problems with that.
Both my cards are running at full speed and nothing ever crashes.

Only problem I have is that i can´t oc my amd card while it´s not the main display adapter.
But i can simply plug in my monitor in the amd and oc.

I fixed this by applying my oc in the graphics bios.
Oc-ing nvidia cards is not affected by that.
same here, have to plug a monitor... (however, I think I loose only the control of the fan, if I unplug it... need to check that again...)

By the way is it safe to use a riser ? I tried to put today the 780 on a riser, and it seems the performance was affected and I also had a crash...

I think I will buy a new motherboard... I am still on a microatx...  Shocked
The cards will have more space to breath...

2.2) Buy top-of the line AMD GPU - would probably double my hashrate, but would leave my current NVidia useless - and somehow I've grown fond of the Nvdia and cudaminer :p

Why would it leave the NVidia useless?
There´s no problem combining amd and nvidia cards in one rig.
you just need to install both graphics drivers and run two different miners.
Or am i misinterpreting something here?
There is no problem using both amd and nvidia cards in a single computer. it works.
also even if the perf. of the amd are better that doesn't the other card is useless...
and yes you'll need a new psu.

But quite frankly I really prefer cudaminer to cgiminer.
Now there is two way to see things, if the computer is only mining you might put whatever you want in it, but if it is also used for gaming... I think it would make more sense to stay in nvidia and do some sli (I regret a bit to not have gone for the second gtx780ti for that... however I didn't play since I started mining... I have at least to try the R9 on bf4, it is supposed to outperformed the 780ti...)

I've read mixed result on running both AMD and nvidia at the same time, and I'd like as little messing around and trouble as possible.

Nice cards Tongue
I'm curious to know what 20 kHash/s for Yacoin equals for scrypt mining?

it would equal melted cards for scrypt mining.

but in all seriousness: look at performance for a single GTX 760, multiply with 6.

So my 3 ASUS ROG MARS cards with 2 GTX 760 chips on one PCB arrived.

Album link here!

Some impressions:
-cool red blinking MARS logo on top. Even cooler than the GTX 780 TI's.
-nice metal back plates, but the plates do take space and so the air convection in the narrow space between adjacent cards is degraded.
-nvidia-smi under Linux (hacked with nvml_fix) shows a TDP limit of 214W per GPU. REALLY?! That's then 428 W per card.

I am currently having some thermal issues with the cards not receiving enough air. Some of the fans run 100% and the GPUs still show 98 deg C.
And this is with Yacoin which doesn't max out the TDP fully Wink

When I forgot to remove some plastic protective cover from the back plates, it got sucked into the fan of the adjacent boards.
I had to cut the power immediately to clean up this mess...

Power draw seems to be 900W when mining near 20 kHash/s.

Anyone mine with a GTX680?   Can you share your .bat file or config

This is slightly offtopic, but being the "unofficial" nvidia mining thread, I'll post it here anyway...
I'm kinda in a crossroads now, thinking which path to take.
I started mining and trading with the idea of upgrading my gear once I reach a certain amount of BTC, to prove myself it can be profitable before investing more. I have reached the amount now, and I have handful of options now.
1) Buy a new, complete computer for a mining rig
I don't like this idea at this very moment, the investment is bit too high
2) Upgrade my current computer part by part
2.1) Upgrade using another Nvidia - this would be simple really, since I already have an NVDIA gtx 680
2.2) Buy top-of the line AMD GPU - would probably double my hashrate, but would leave my current NVidia useless - and somehow I've grown fond of the Nvdia and cudaminer :p
I'm leaning on option 2), I need a better PSU - 500W stock just ain't good enough.
Any ideas on this?

Conclusion: NEVER buy a video card with those stupid two-fan coolers!
They may be a bit more quiet if it´s your only card in the system, but as soon as you have a second card, you´re gonna hate them.

You couldnt have said this a week ago? :p haha
Yea with 2 cards my top card hits 78 degrees :/
Its getting a little scary at that point
78C isn't THAT bad, my single GTX780 hits that all the time, and the fan doesn't go >70%...
Also my laptop (no GPU but CPU mining yacoin is better than nothing) hits 80C... it's silent but the fan goes 3800RPM... Vague stuff.

Man, AMD GPU prices are insane now. I was thinking of expanding my rig but don't really want to overpay on a R9 290. Thinking about replacing the 2 780s I have in my gaming rig with a pair of 780 Tis and move the 780s over to a dedicated mining box. Good idea? Or should I wait for Maxwell stuff... heard that's still a ways off though (late Q4 / next year?).

I'd wait at least for GTX 750/750ti mining results...otherwise grab asus 760 mars cards like Christian did. 650usd for 8kh/s is pretty damn good.
Or go and get R7 240 4GB or 7850 4gb cards for yac mining.

I'm mining LTC in a pool with these settings:

Laptop: ( cudaminer.exe -d GTX675M -l F16x8 -C 2 -H 2 -o stratum+tcp://usa1.coinhuntr.com:3333 -O "username.worker:password"
pause ),

Desktop: ( cudaminer.exe -d gtx650 -C 2 -H 1 -o stratum+tcp://usa1.coinhuntr.com:3333 -O "username.worker:password"
pause )

Both pc's are using 2-9-2014 version of cudaminer.

On my desktop I have cudaminer auto-tuning the GTX650, neither miner can get over 105khash. I've read the readme as well as this forum for helpful hints, but now matter what can't speed it up. Using auto-tune on the laptop it has found that for the GTX675M F16x8 is the best tune and on the GTX650 the best tune is K4x32.

Any ideas on updating the settings to help me out would be appreciated.

Wow, those are packed in there tight! Time for some risers, so you can spread them out a bit!
