been mining for an hour - but nothing on the pool website.
All my usernames match, I meticulously followed the guides and setup walkthroughs.
So is my 300K PPD being wasted by the pool? Why isn't my username being matched and my PPD shown in the pool website?
Am I cooking an extremely expensive OCed Titan for nothing?
You haven't submitted any work units yet right?
With an hour of folding I don't think it's possible.
I am unfamiliar with this type of mining.
I turned off the CPU mining as suggested in the guide and turned the GPU to "Full" and set to core_17 process.
It is bouncing around between 290k-300k on the app, says 12% on the progress bar, ETA 7 hours....
So my system has to run flawlessly overclocked for 8.5 hours before work is submitted at all? What if I crash after having done 5 hours of that work?
Poor system if it requires 9 hour stretches to complete before work is "turned in." IMHO.
miners crash.
Am I understanding your observation correctly and this new mining system?
First of all, this is not a mining system. It is a scientific system that calculates protein folding.
That being said, these work jobs can take multiple hours indeed. But your system can do whatever it want in the mean time. Unlike a mining system you have a progress towards completing the task, so if you reboot, crash, pause your system to play a game, etc. the FAH client saves your progress and you can resume from where you left off.
"Miners crash", FAH client does not.
The FAH client is a scientific program (As I've mentioned before) and a lot of work has been put into the program to make it work. Unlike some crypto hobbyist who has made a new miner program from his basement in a solo project (Not saying miner programs are all terrible, but there is a difference), this thing has been extensively tested BEFORE release.
Some knowledge on the term PPD: Points Per Day. Meaning you will gain approximately 290-300K Points today. Not in 1 hour, not in 12 hours, but in 24 hours. This also is an average! As you are working with jobs that can take a few hours you can't expect to get 300K points every day on the charts. Because if you deliver a job at 00:05 AM it won't count for this day and you will only have 220K points (if it was a job for 80K points). This does however mean that the next day you have a chance of gaining 380K points (300K average + last day's 80K project).
On a side note: it is better for folding if you don't overclock. Overclocking your system may lead to incorrect calculations which in turn will give you incorrect folding results. This harms both your points and the scientific research because your work will be rejected and has to be done all over again.
