I guess the thing with me is that it was once a great symbol of all those things...But from what I saw, it started to just be abused and misrepresented by people wanting to be "oh so edgy". I dunno. I respect your responses and I DO see more of the point now. Cheesy

Also, yes...yes I do mine coins just for the fun! But also to be a part of something important, have a new currency to spend, and maybe to make some money in the future. I like this coin and the people who are a part of it. We need more.

Please refrain from fistpunches when I say this, but...

The one thing I really don't like about Dopecoin is the whole, Guy Fawkes mask thing. I dunno...It's not really a major complaint, but the Guy Fawkes mask thing is a bit stale and I might even say a bit gimmicky/tacky. Just my opinion here, but I think if the Guy Fawkes Mask thing is taken out of the picture and the coin is based solely on shiny metal with pot leaves on it, as well as the major goal to utilize the weed market and give a decentralized currency for it, it'd be so much more popular. When I first saw this coin, I was seriously gonna skip over it after merely seeing those masks. I'm tired of seeing them lol. It's only when I actually took a bunch of time to read things through and see the creators are stand-up people did I stick to this coin. I don't regret it and I plan on sticking around for a looooong time...But I really just don't like the Guy Fawkes mask thing.

Havent you seen the movie V like Vendetta? Made by the same producers of the Matrix Trilogie, which was also very popular in the hacker scene.

I dont really know the intention of the devs for picking the Guy Fawkes Mask as a logo, but for my interpretation that is quite obvious. As it stands for democracy, power to the people, revolution, freedom... exactly what represents the spirit of cryptocurrencies and everything the FED is not.
Just like Bitcoin was the answer to the financial crisis in 2007, occupy wallstreet, the anonymous thing and decentralised cryptocurrencies mostly stand for breaking the exploitative central banking system. The Guy Fawkes Mask represents all that, so for me there couldnt have been a better choice for a logo.

To go mainstream you shouldnt go hard for an opinion or ideology, as you need to suit the taste of the masses, which is always a soft compromise, thats why Bitcoin is so succesful with its giant BTC which could stand for everything.
DopeCoin is just much more straight forward on this.

I mean, why are you into crypto-currencies? Just for the fun about it and the fast buck?
A monetary system is always political decision.

I think the mask is become quite iconic and sits nicely with not just dope, but the entire idea of decentralization. I don't see why dope shouldn't ride on the mask's popularity. I can understand if this is just any other lame ass wannabe coin using a "celebrity" of sorts to ride a wave or two. Of course there will not be any evidence to support otherwise, but with genuine people backing up the coin and actually getting shit done, it deserves the mask.

As the cheesy line from transformers goes.... "You do not chose the mask, the mask chooses you"  Cool

I agree with F4. It's not necessarily the numbers and math that drives a coin up in popularity and value, it's how people stick together, have patience, build a community, and give other people reasons to be a part of it. Dogecoin has done something like that by using something everyone can relate to and give everyone a laugh. It's interesting to see how a joke turned into something so popular and full of value.

Dopecoin can go the same way, and it's value is held in it's following. The price ain't gonna skyrocket to 10k Sat. within a couple months. It's gonna take time to find it's value in the market. Think of it as a plant (no pun intended): You plant the seed and you nurture it so it grows healthily. If you expect a sapling to hold the value of a flower right away, your expectations are unrealistic. Just sit back, mine those dopecoins, be a part of the discussion and community, and give your part/say.

Also, gotta point out that this coin is only 6 weeks old - Not even two months. Let's give it some bloody time before everyone starts dumping barrels and jumping ship while screaming the end it nigh.

Oh Im all for dumping... people get to then buy them for cheap. I like to see it as a natural Darwinian method of getting rid of the impatient and rewarding the patient who stick it out through the tough times of unpredictability.
That DOES make sense...
I just wish I had more bitcoin to rent rigs with. Cheesy

You are bang on there... once the ASICs become mainstream and GPU's move on to the next GPU-only algo, the older generation scrypt coins are going to be premium stuff and scarce. In a way, I'm glad the ASICs are pouring in  Cool

Well we can be happy, to have such farsighted devs with Dopecoin, as DopeCoin as got the possibility to make it Asic-resistant via Scrypt-Jane, if that is considered to be better.

The price is incredibly low.

Did the network hashrate dropped too?

Yup... big time. Something's definitely up. I like to think of it as the silence before the storm and what not, but I get this feeling people are giving up on mining and overall investing in mining hardwares. Bitcoin scares are at an all time high now... the idea is now being associated with "losing money" and "scam", etc. where I live. There's also the issue about too many coins out there, each with its patriotic "tribe", not very different from ours  Tongue so the hashes spread out thin...

Dude I bet with you, when all the Scrypt-Asics are delivered this summer, the difficulty is in the 1000s, lots of retailers accept DopeCoin and one DOPE is being traded at over 10.000 satoshis you'll keep bumping your head onto the keyboard that you sold this early and didnt mine more when the difficulty was this low, the big reward is only for the faithful holder and supporters. This is a longtherm project, remember, every good company doesnt make profit in the beginning at all, look at Twitter, Facebook, ICQ, Skpe and WhatsApp.

Besides that you are totally right that the market is being flooded with lots of new Altcoins everyday, which are more or less the same, looking at the algorithm, all slightly modified clones of Litecoin. You dont need to be a coder to start a new coin, as there is simple prefabricated software every noob can start a coin with.
Scrypt is faster, resistant to transaction malleability and Asics, thus more democratic and better to use, but still coin Nr.1 is SHA-256.
But thats not what it is about as we could see with DogeCoin, to make a coin successful, it is about the community, spreading, usage and image of the coin.
