I think there's a problem here folks:

I compiled the latest source code wallet and reloaded the entire block chain.

then tried to transfer 100 coins from my cryptsy wallet to the newly compiled wallet

here's the transaction id: 05c0af5a516cf12e39c587e8cf3d09858d1044a04f8ec546dca59e887ecc8165

and the two block explorers at the beginning of this thread cannot find the transaction

Maybe EMD can be the 'fair' crypto of choice for Hampshire freemen Wink

must photo the event pls!

There will be plenty of photos/video from there. We always travel with plenty of cameras in tow.  Wink

BTW, one thing that I failed to mention about PorcFest is that you can purchase your tickets with BTC! Most vendors at PorcFest take BTC and there are also many businesses in New Hampshire that take BTC... so be sure to have your mobile wallet loaded up and ready to go.

Like I said in an earlier post: They are a very cryptocurrency aware group. Introducing these people to a faster crypto (EMD) is one of the main reasons for this trip... and I've been wanting to go to PorcFest for a couple of years, now.  Wink

Being that we are talking about updating the client, there have been some things going on lately in the forum that you should be aware of. People have been posting links to what appears to be the updated clients but are links to clients that have malware/viruses in them. https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/beware-of-increasingly-sophisticated-malware-infection-attempts-936724

To avoid this kind of problem: Do not download any clients from links posted by anyone other than the official EMD dev account (hint... this account). Download them from the links in the OP or the official EMD website: http://emeraldcrypto.org only. When you do download a new client, for any coin; be sure to scan it for viruses and/or run it in a sandbox first to make sure there is nothing nefarious going on. There are a lot of dip-shits out there that want to steal your coins. Be smart and take precautions so that you are not the next victim of these asshats.

While no one has tried anything like this with EMD; we do want to help spread the word that there are things going on in the community that have affected several other coins and their users. We want to avoid this happening to the community here.

From this point on, we will not post links for clients in the thread comments. The only official download links for client updates will be in the OP of this thread and on the official EMD crypto website. Do not download a client from links posted anywhere else or by anyone else!

If there is a choice only between POS and AuxPoW, I choose AuxPoW.
bigger fan of AuxPoW
and if that is done then the Fork ought reduce the reward
from 15/min to 1/min sound about right ... or 0.33 EMDs/block
(you can let the rewards run high for 4 months or so to get the mining pools adopt it into their MM lineup)

this gives a longer mining life without increasing total coins (MAX)

keep the block speed Wink

EMD is a gem

When we did the takeover, I always envisioned keeping EMD as a miner's coin, which AuxPoW will help provide.

Regarding the reduction of the block reward... It halves around June, so That would be a good time to do the fork and reduce the future block reward even further. I'm thinking dropping the reward to 1 per block, at that time, for either 6 months or 1 year and then halving to 0.5 per block. I do not want to drop the reward too drastically, at first; yet still put a plan into place to significantly reduce it within the next year or so.

As for the block speed; that will not be changing. One of the great things that EMD, as it is now, has going for it is the block speed. Making longer blocks takes away one of the selling points for EMD as a currency. The block speed plays an important role in how we want to market EMD in an upcoming venture.

There will be a lot happening between now and June. We will be announcing the EMZ initiative and a future project that will kick off in June within the next month. In the meantime, we will be preparing the code for the next fork of EMD to further reduce the block reward and add AuxPoW. As soon as that code is released, we will begin work on the mobile/online wallet which is at the heart of the upcoming June project.

I can't add much.  This sounds pretty damn good.

Going mobile wallet is key, but no rush let others get the app coded right.  We can copy.  Right now the mobile wallets are good, but lack stuff like easy copy paste (geared more towards QR code but forgot simple things like click link and pay or how hard it is to copy paste addies on a little tiny phone).  And yeap speed matters in the mobile game Wink

One of the things I plan to do this Summer is to attend PorcFest in New Hampshire, this June. It would be awesome if we could have some other community members attend and have a two year anniversary party while we are there. It would be a great way to gain some exposure for EMD to a community that is already very cryptocurrency aware.

This ties in with the June project that I have been talking about the past few days... If you are not aware as to what PorcFest is, visit their website: http://porcfest.com/ to find out more.  Grin

With BTC rising, alt-coins decreasing (at the moment) and the upcoming projects, it is a good time to be buying EMD. I've purchased 200K or so over the past month and am still buying. Prices are down but the future is good.  Wink

Update coming soon, but... Any fork will be later down the road, probably late May/early June. I know I had said something about PoS earlier, but it really does not fit in with what we want to do with the code... Plus, it just adds more bulk to an already bulky blockchain. We are now discussing whether to implement AuxPoW, where EMD would be able to be merge-mined with other AuxPoW Scrypt coins (like Doge, Litecoin, etc) or just to go ahead and add PoS. If we do either, there will be no turning back or trying to add the other option later. We are looking at all angles for what fits our plans for the code and the long-term future of EMD.

We are also thinking of dropping the block reward. The first halving is scheduled to happen in June, which will drop the block reward to 2.5 from the now current 5 coins per Block. We are thinking to drop that to 2 coins (or possibly even 1) per block and move the next halving to one year where there will then be only one coin (or 0.5) per block. After that (still need to do the math... lol) the reward will remain at one for a while before dropping to 0.5 coins per block for the remaining mining period. (If we move to one per block in June, then the next halving to 0.5 will be the last halving.) This will extend the mining period for EMD well into the future and cut the rate of inflation way down.

Being that I have always wanted to keep EMD as a miner's coin; I, personally, prefer moving to merged-mining (AuxPoW). Merged-mining also fits better with what we are looking to do with the code re-write. All opinions are welcome... AuxPow or PoS? Reward reduction? Give me some feedback. What would the community prefer?

We have some other plans that are evolving as I type this... but they will have to wait. They do include a mobile and/or online wallet... and the whole EMZ thing that was mentioned at the beginning of the takeover... As soon as things are finalized, we will be posting the info here and on the website along with a downloadable PDF.

There are great things in the works for EMD... but great things take time to develop.

Thought I would replay - just to let you know that there is someone out there ...
I've had three coins change to PoS and they did it by hard fork, so I guess I vote for that.

question about the coin exchange, wouldn't there be transaction fees ??

There would be TX fees on a swap, but we could do a work around to refund them. What we have planned for the client will take a near total re-write of the code, so we thought doing a swap to get rid of some of the blockchain bloat that has already accumulated in the past 20 months of mining might be a better choice.

Doing a hardfork based on the current client model would be fairly simple. Updating to a more feature rich client (which we really need for some of the projects in the works) and including a hardfork would be a more difficult programming job.

EMD will still be mineable. What we are looking at is reducing the mining payout and adding a PoS element to make up the difference. Total number of coins would still end up being about the same, overall.

Okay... here is the news. We will be adding a proof of stake element into EMD in the next update. There are a couple of ways that we can do this.

First, we could do another hard fork and keep on the same blockchain and begin PoS at a certain block height. Or...

We could do a coin swap and start fresh with a new blockchain. The EMD blockchain is quite large, already and adding PoS will just make it grow even faster. Starting with a fresh blockchain could help keep some of the bloat down, for a while at least.

If we do the coin swap, then everyone would have to withdraw their coins from the exchanges to swap out to the new EMD. This would also involve some talks with the Cryptsy wallet team, as they are notoriously slow about updating the wallets of some of their lower volume coins and doing a complete wallet swap may take them an eternity.  Wink

In other news... UNB Auctions now accepts EMD! You can list and sell your items at unbauctions.com for EMD and many other cryptos. You can use your EMD to buy items from anyone accepting EMD there, too. Just look in the description to see what coins the seller accepts. There should be some things listed there soon... if I can find the extra time to get some pics taken and descriptions up. The UNB dev is top-notch and an all-around good guy, so check it out.

Also, I am looking at adding another exchange for EMD. This may not happen until after the PoS issue is decided upon. Don't want to ask an exchange to list a coin and then have a new wallet come out just a couple weeks later... This particular exchange is kind of small, at the moment, but has several very interesting features that I believe will be good for the future of EMD.

Anyhow, feedback on the PoS addition would be appreciated.

More soon.

Hi there i have been recently mining emerald and have been getting a high number of blocks orphaned. from the past 59 blocks 43 of them were orphaned. i am running 8.5.1 already.
Maybe it happened because I mined Emerald with power of about 2 Gh/s at the same time. It was in the last days of 2014 and the first days of 2015. Within a few days I received an almost continuous sequence of blocks.
