Up to 20 seconds per block is probably not fatal. Over a minute (January 2017) would drop mining revenue by 75%, would the price rise 300% to compensate?
Removing the bomb shouldn't be a big change but it looks like this will be pulled in all sorts of different directions, POS, POS/POW, etc. The focus should be just the bomb and done ASAP. Then the bickering can start.
