Yes, POS nodes will replace miners validating blocks. I believe the nodes will do mostly validation/consensus and the heavy computational work will move to off-chain resources.

The hardest core of the problem comes from asynchrony, where messages can be delayed and reshuffled. This is equivalent to nodes being slowed down at arbitrary rates. The core of the problem is how to establish secure knowledge about the future, just by looking at the subjective past.

Can you show me another coin that's fulfilling the same requirements as Ethereum and is farther along? Grin
