Hi, Im new to ethereum Ive downloaded the wallet but its just blank I tried opening it and closing it as some others have tried but nothing, Ive been running it for about 3 or 4 hours (machine 8 core 8GB ram win7) should it change itself once synced? I wondered if one of the Devs could put a bootstrap on here http://cryptochainer.com/dir/ to speed up the whole process? cheers

Today we are happy to open Ethereum Studio for the live web users.
(Start use it now: here). https://live.ether.camp/

In we spent 9 months adjusting and redesigning over and over again the Ethereum Studio in order to build the perfect tool for the developers community. For a long time it was available only for an enterprise organizations who order the self installation package. Yet today, we are really excited to release it for the entire Ethereum community. It is online now and completely free for next 30 days.

The Ethereum Studio is a comprehensive tool for
decentralized application development, and includes

Ethereum in a Sandbox - try it for real before you deploy.
Solidity - the language of decentralization.
Unit test - constantly test your projects functionality
One click deploy - deploy your project anyway in one click.
Web UI - develop any complexity UI for you D-App.
Web 3.0 debug - set break point ,stop, and easy fix the bug.

I moved my ETH installation to a new machine after realizing that synchronizing on my previous machine would take a month.  I have seen an improvement on my second machine (on the same LAN) but I need to stop and restart every hours or so (better than the first attempt which needed a restart every 5 minutes).  Oddly, on this machine the wallet works better than geth.  Geth fails with the no peers error every few thousand blocks.  In any case, the wallet shows progress as "downloading block x of y".  The y changes in odd ways.  I realize as new blocks are found teh number will increase but I am seeing the number go up and down sometimes as much as 500,000 blocks!  The highest number I see is about 1.3 million blocks which I believe to be the right number.  Right now it shows 1.2 million and I has dropped to 827,000.

Is this normal?  I am concerned that the download is not working.  My very first attempt to start teh wallet, it downloaded all the blocks but when I shut down and started it again, it started downloading from the beginning!  If this doesn't work, I am going to give up.

Welcome the launch of trading Ethers on CEX.IO! From now on, you can trade ETH/BTC and ETH/USD, as well as simply buy Ethers with your Visa or MasterCard, or via bank transfer.

As ETH is different from Bitcoin and most altcoins, we’d like to pay your attention to deposit and withdrawal fees with ETH on CEX.IO:

- Withdrawal fee  is 0.01 ETH.
- Minimum deposit amount is 0.001 ETH. Please note that if the amount is less than 0.001 ETH, the funds will not be credited to your account.
- Trade fee is 0.2%, as for other currency pairs.

We at CEX.IO are glad to support outstanding innovations, such as Ethereum, and welcome everyone to buy, sell, and trade Ethers on our exchange.

Recent good news has not been calculated in current price so it should go up... But I am holding it longterm so dont care too much, eth will see btc market cap soon. I think early 2017

eth will see current btc market cap if btc market cap is 50 billion

Things change all the time, btc was/still is king but as history teaches us nothing lasts for ever and neither will btc ! Eth is catching up, it has much more to offer than btc and it is only matter of time when it will surpase btc.

http://etheropt.github.io/
Etheropt is a decentralized options exchange built on Ethereum. The options are vanilla call and put options on the price of Ethereum in USD as reported by Poloniex and Coindesk and verified by Reality Keys. Etheropt has no owner. Its entire operation is described and executed by an Ethereum smart contract. Etheropt does not make any money as the smart contract does not charge any fees — not for trading, not for adding funds, not for withdrawing, not for anything.

Its pretty weird.
Going away from the mining will kill the coin and project i think.

Its the mining that made this coin well known and talked about.
When that buzz and community disappears, i think it will slowly fade away.

ASIC resistant minable coins have a huge user mass.
The commercial value of all tweets, forums and talks by this user mass are hard to put in figures.

come on over and check out BURST, mine with your HDDs, more green, and just better.

I am new to ETH so I will try to be respectful of those who are supportive of it.  However, if I may suggest a few points?

I have no programming experience but I have had wallets get stuck in the past and ETH wallet was the same.  All I had to do is stop and start the wallet a few times and finally loaded all the blocks.  I have had the wallet running for 2 months and have not had one problem.  I am using GETH.
me too
it took a week on my old pc just 4 gb ram
had to restart a lot of times
now on my new one with a high speed drive it synced in half a day
had to restart it few times
since then it runs

Exactly this! People don't realize that their sync times depend completely of their hardware and connection speed. My 7 year old laptop with 2gb of RAM took a week to sync with constant crashes. I have just gotten new Aspire Nitro, 8gb of RAM and powerful quad core. I have synced whole 1,3M blocks in less than 10 hours without any crashes and doing all of this over WIFI, not even connecting LAN.

The only problem you can encounter with ETH wallet is time synchronization problem which is easily fixable by changing time servers where your date and time is updated. Everything else depends on your hardware and connection speeds. And it's the same with any other wallet out there, even Bitcoin Core.

Cheers!

I have loaded about 687,000 blocks over the past 3 days.  I am stopping and restarting geth every 10,000 blocks or so.  Sometimes I get an error message the synchronization failed because there are no peers. (Are there really no peers?) and sometimes it just stops and there is no message.  My PC hardware is a 4.4 Ghz 8 core processor, 16 GB ram, SSD, 1 gigabit LAN adapter, tested network speeds of 56 megabits/sec download and 63 megabits/sec upload.  I can download the bitcoin blockchain in about 24 hours and most other blockchains in about 12-24.

It could be something about my PC that is a problem.  But how would I know that?  Regardless of the fact that others only restart their wallets a couple of times, my experience is very different.  But what it means is there must be a way for me to fix what I am seeing, at least partially.  I would like to know what things I should look for.  I don;t think its an unreasonable request.  If there is documentation, point me to it.  I would be happy to read it but so far all the guides and stuff do not offer any solutions.

run it with geth --fast to sync much quicker.. once synced then close and run your normal command line..

Best Regards
