Any ideas on why I receive an error below when running the run_miner.sh on ubuntu 12.04 (the miner is the latest beta2 version from heavycoinpool.com).

suky@ubuntu:~$ cd Desktop
suky@ubuntu:~/Desktop$ ./run_miner.sh
bash: ./run_miner.sh: /bin/bash^M: bad interpreter: No such file or directory
suky@ubuntu:~/Desktop$ ls -la

I didn't see anyone react on AnonyMint post (see quote below, original post on page 89), I'm not tech savvy enough in crypto to have a opinion on this, @keccak512 can we have the dev team point of view? Thanks.

Someone private messaged me to check out HeavyCoin.

Sorry I realize this post will make people angry at me. I am usually the messenger who brings technical reality which is usually bad news because most coin developers are not competent.

Innovations and contributions

  • HEFTY1 - a cryptographic hash function for CPU-only proof-of-work with a small memory footprint

Insufficient technical details. From what I read about their claim of SIMD as an issue. I think they fail to understand the nature of the GPU advantage.

  • Ultra-secure hashing - a secure strategy for using multiple cryptographic hash functions

From the Github page:

  • Temporal Retargeting - multipool protection that goes beyond Kimoto Gravity Well
  • Decentralized Block Reward Voting - the mining schedule and money supply are democratically decided (total supply is still bounded to 128M)

Oh great let the early investors decide to make coins even more rare. This will be a very good experiment to show why democracy is a power vacuum.  Wink

GUYS, IT's TIME TO SET VOTE 1 FOR NEXT PHASE

DOing that. What happens when everybody would vote that, btw? Don't run the risk of having too low a block reward?
I think this will never happen. EVERYBODY can't have the same opinion.

It can in North Korea! Wink

But, what if the average is below 640? Will the coin get less than 64 million coins in total?
I'm not pretty sure, but I think it means that our way to 64 million will be a little longer.

yes!?
AAAArrrgh!!!!!!

I transferred all of my coins to my main wallet today; now I tried to move them to mintpal and realized I PW protected the main wallet.

However I made a totally random password written on a piece of paper and threw it away!

I have no way of getting it back... trash is gone. Is there any way to recover the coins/get them out of the wallet?  It's over 18,000 coins.

Thoughts?

uuuh, that sound really bad, good luck! i hope for you that you can recover this pwd ...
searching your paper with the pwd noted is your best way.

when I see everyone in the top 100 with rates between 2 mhz & 80 mhz on 1gh, I'm kinda worried, it almost looks like there's a secret GPU miner  Grin

GPU miner is impossible with the HVC core, check this page http://heavycoin.github.io/about.html#cpu-only for details

Some people have a lot of merged CPU hash power. it looks insane, yes. but they do.. the top 100 are people with a lot of CPU power.

I assure you that GPU miner is definitely possible with HVC. The sooner it's created and made public the better for this coin. Really, reworking HEFTY1 to remove conditional branches is a child's play. This coin being cpu-only is a pure marketing bs, don't believe it.

If creators of this coin are so sure that it can't be efficiently mined with GPU I'd be happy to prove them wrong for a nice generous bounty. Cool

prove them wrong then, create a gpu miner for this coin. seriously I will believe it when I see it but so many people say that the code is easy to get around for gpu mining but nobody has the answer to back up their statements, until someone backs it up then it's a load of hot air. I have found the secret of alchemy, the dark art of turning base metals into gold, see anyone can say something, doesn't make it true though without proof.

You missed the "bounty" part.  Roll Eyes

haha yes sorry i forgot about that, I will pay you a generous bounty from all the lead I have turned to gold Tongue
