So how does blockchain technology work?

A blockchain can be considered as a type of diary containing information about transactions, each transactions are written in a long string of numbers and letters combined. Every transaction are entered in the order in which they occurred. One small change in a transaction will create a whole different new string combination. The blockchain updates itself every 10 minutes.

Blockchain is a record of transactions between blockchain addresses. It is permanent, ordered chronologically, and available to be checked by everybody, so it will be public and completely transparent.

Its transparency and digitalized encryption have made blockchain ideal for what we know as smart contracts. Smart contracts are just like traditional contracts, but coded digitally and automated so that it only requires minimum human involvement, hence harder to manipulate and take shorter time to sort out.

Blockchain and smart contracts lead to "The Internet of Things (IoT)". It is a network of physical devices, machines, vehicles etc. embedded with software, sensors, and network connectivity, connected to the Internet. Again, by its safety measurement, blockchain will be able to provide strong protection on IoT systems, preventing a rogue device from disrupting the main system.
