Better get your coin off masterXchange. I'm not sure what happens on Nov. 15th. I would hope they email you the private keys to your coins but you never know. many exchanges just keep the coins after they disappear.

You just need to withdraw your coin, no private key will be given..

I noticed the price of MAID has taken quite a hit since masterxchange announced they were shutting down.

The sprint "RUST-5" is going well.

Here's the latest Dev-Update:

MaidSafe Dev Update 19 October 2015

"The overarching objective is to enable the community to join in testing the network at a larger scale."

If you want to follow the progress very closely, this is the place to be:

"This sprint (3 to 4 weeks) > A global network where anyone can connect to using the installers. The network will go "live" and might never be taken down again if things go well.
Next sprints > Implementation of "Safecoin" where people "farm" Safecoin when they provide Chunks (mostly 1MB.) to the network. Transactions should take place under a second without transaction costs."

So this sprint will be done in a month, and the network could be accessible by using the installers? It is awesome IMO, and when will we have alpha or beta test or official LAUNCH? I can't wait for it cause MAID will definitely be HUGE, I wanna spend my MAID on your products or services. Cheers!!   Cheesy Grin

And MAID will be officially launched after next sprint(Implementation of "Safecoin" where people "farm" Safecoin when they provide Chunks (mostly 1MB.) to the network.)Huh

I think there won't be an official launch. If after this sprint the network is stable, where people can up- and download stuff, the network might stay up and running. No need to shut it down. David (founder of MAIDSAFE) said they're also thinking about a period where people can Farm "test Safecoin". If all works well, they might make these test Safecoins transferable for the real thing. Check the discussion here. But if there are some troubles, maybe they ask people to shut down all the nodes and to start over again. we'll see how thing work out. First magic moment will be when we're all connected globally.

I've been using gentoo for years. Now, to save time, I'm using mostly ubuntu.

Tough pill to swallow.

I tend to prefer to build programs myself; most of the times the linux binary is not available anyway (and there are reasons for this).

You got that right.

Thanks, I'll wait for the global test network, then.
Hopefully the software will be easy to build if one, like me, uses linux and doesn't rely on precompiled binaries.

Gentoo?

There is a lot of information in the forums, the site etc. but can I simply ask what's the overall status of the project?
Can I join the network? Where is an howto explaining what parts of the git repository I need and how to compile it?
Thanks.

There's no global (test)network for anyone to join. The status is that in this sprint, they're working on exactly that. This is sprint nr. 5 and after sprint 3 they released some
installers to test the network locally. It is a proof-of-concept where you run a local network (3 Vaults) and upload your own (or an test-) website to your local network with the option to register your own URL. Here are
the links to that Dev-update with instructions:

I'm not sure what the status is if you want to compile your own code. Things are changing quite fast. I would come to the forum and ask in a reply on the last Dev-update. Here are some things you might see in the close future:

What is the ants thing?  I keep reading that.

On Safenet, all nodes will work together like ants. You request Chunk "445677" from the network? You ask your neighbor and he'll ask his one as well. After some hops the request is at the node where the Chunk is stored. That node will route that Chunk to the node that asked for it. But how do we know that a node is storing the Chunks he says he is? Well, some other nodes check this every few seconds. So the nodes on the network have different "personas" without one central control point. Ants do exactly the same, some are builders, others are guards, others are movers etc.

MaidSafe CEO David Irvine Talks Nature, Ants and Decentralization

So Safenet wil be a decentralized-, encrypted-, P2P-, XOR-network where nodes (peers) work together to keep things up and running.

Here's the latest Dev-Update:

MaidSafe Dev Update 5th October 2015

Here are the main points:

- This is the RUST sprint part 5. It will take about 3 to 4 weeks.
- The main theme of this sprint is delivering the ability for everyone to easily connect to a stable network remotely via their home desktop computer (tier-one OS only just now).
- UDP hole punching is implemented to get through NAT's.
- The Launcher is coming! This is the program (client) for the Safenetwork. It allows you to run Apps and/or browse the Safenetwork using a browser like Firefox and a plugin for Safenet.

This was an early design.

The ants are coming!  Tongue Grin Tongue

I think it is time to add Maidsafe to some new exchanges.

and why is that? liquidity is low already. don't really see the point of having it all spread out over multiple exchanges.
