Things are much improved at the present time and so far as we know everyone should be able to access the site OK or trade through the API. I truly and honestly believe Kraken will resolve this in a friendly manner.
I've always used Kraken since the very start because of my firm belief in Jessie Powell was a truly competent and straight up guy. Their compliance practices when Bitcoin was laughed at, was impeccable.
The fact that they never intended on growing exponentially, but responsibly, was a major thing for me.
They were the first to partner with an Euro bank Fidor, and offer SEPA transfers.
My beliefs reassured when they were chosen as Mt Gox advisors and trustees.
All trademarks of a rock-solid team with great leadership.
I really hope they solve this in a friendly manner.

API is the same affected like the website itself. Good trading via API is not posible since several hours.
But every now and then you are able to load the website and also get a positive response from API. That's why the charts are updated and some trades were made.
Kraken is not down. But 95% of all calls don't reach them. But 5% does.
So the only advantage of API at the moment is, that you can send 100 calls to be 5 times succesfull. Or you can try loading the page 100 times... but that won't lower the load of Kraken
But yes, with API you had good chances to close a position...
And I think you are right, Kraken has to stop trading while such heavy load.

If this is true, then im out of Kraken. If people who dont use an API are disadvantaged traders, it is not acceptable.
That is the whole point of API trading. Even Crytpowat.ch is faster to update prices that Kraken. I dont understand it, but I accept it. Kraken is not the exception here, it's a technical thing.
1 or 2 second lag? I can live with that, sure no problem. I'm not a bot scalper.
Having my margin called because for more than one hour I could NOT close them myself, while API trader are all happy - Not acceptable at all

You can trade through API, which bypasses the website. From a quick advisory call to my lawyer, it is Kraken's responsibility to FREEZE the API if the internal web server is unresponsive. I would not be surprised if Dark Pool traders were fine and dandy too.
This is completely unacceptable, immoral even.
I need resolution on this or I will NOT let this go.
btc on bitstamp are 20-30 € worth more than on kraken(€). what is this ?

Ok, solved with support.
Question... What will Kraken do to prevent such ddos attacks in future? Bitstamp for example solved that perfectly with Amazon.

We've already done some things that should help and plan to do a lot more. We are considering a switch to a different provider of DDoS protection. This is something the developers are working on and I don't have too many details at this point, so I can't say too much about it. But we understand that clients are concerned to know that we are taking appropriate measures, so we'll make a more detailed statement about it soon.

The DAO is under attack, people steal money from it at a rate of 20000 US$ per second. Maybe the downtime is related to a server-overload due to a massive amount of people wanting to get out of DAO quickly?
