ShapeShift.io is excited to announce the launch of our newest tool, Skeleton. Skeleton allows websites to offer on-site exchanges so that their users don't have to leave the site in order to do an exchange. Allow your website users to buy or sell NXT directly from your site! Learn more about how you can add this to your site here and see a VIDEO example of how CoinCap has utilized this offering: http://bit.ly/1WvSoBx

This is a very old thread, so the best place to ask for help these days would be on www.nxtforum.org itself.

Having said that, one of our devs created a passphrase typo checker for this sort of situation:
http://jnxt.org/typo/

This might be able to help you out, good luck !

Hi Freigeist,

How are you?

Thank you for assisting me. It's possible that the passphrase is wrong yes, otherwise I would've end up in the right account.
Tried to change a few letters or spaces but seem to end up in the wrong account every time.
So it's not possible to use the key for the account, because that one I have correct I'm pretty sure.

Hello Microove.
I'm busy Sad
And how are you? Whaz up?

No problem glad to help if I can.
With the NXT client you could access your account by entering your NXT address NXT-....-... and so on.
It will open your account but then to do any transaction it will require you to enter the passphrase again.
So I thing without the correct passphrase your funds are locked there. I hope you do not have much NXT in yur account.

I'm not expert in NXT but maybe someone with more experience could give you a better answer.
Please try to post here in the official thread on BTT:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/nxt-blockchain-platform-proof-of-stake-official-587007

or here in the official NXT forum:

Hi,

I've got my passphrase, but now it seems that I'm ending up in the wrong wallet?
Still got the key and adress where the coins are in right now.
Is there a way to retrieve them with the key?

Thanks so much in advance.

If you are ending in the wrong wallet then the reason is for sure that you are entering
a different (wrong) passphrase. You should check for spaces at the begging or at the end if you paste
it from somewhere.

NXT newbie here...

Downloaded the wallet, won't run - assuming it's because my PC only has 32-bit Windows.  Is that right?

Also does POS work on the web wallet?

Thanks in advance!

Apparently there's only a listing fee of one nxt according to their website. I personally don't really care enough to download the client and look through it myself though.

Not entirely sure exactly what you are referring too... there is a fee to interact with the blockchain (send transaction, send encrypted message, buy an asset, register an alias, buy something from Freemarket (ebay) etc) as a spam deterrent. If it wasn't there, anyone who had bad intentions could bloat the blockhain for free. It is the same for all cryptos.

Luckily for you, you don't need to download the client. You can trial it for free with 200,000 (fake) NXT here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/online-demo-for-nxt-1510-1084085

Give it a whirl

What are my options for storing NXT outside of a centralized exchange?

In the blockchain through the client.

If you don't want to download the blockchain, try mynxt.info or mofowallet.com. mynxt.info also have andoid and iOS apps.

I'm very careful about what I install on my computer.  Can I install NRS in a sandbox somehow?  I suppose I could run it as a very unprivileged user.  I use Linux BTW.

I think a web wallet is too risky.

Would Jay be a good choice?

jay with http://jnxt.org/nxt can work well as a Web wallet solution, also nxtvault is an android version of jay. For secure cold storage I would suggest http://jnxt.org/vapor

How does that work?  Wouldn't I be trusting jnxt.org?

With vapor on an offline computer you are trusting no one, there is no way for your private key to even get to the jnxt servers, you can also use the nxt today android app to broadcast the transactions vapor creates to the network through qr codes.

Jay works in such a way that the client is locally downloaded and holds your private keys and is only in charge of signing transactions, those transactions are Givin to it by anything with jay.js like http://jnxt.org/nxt

Neither of these setups ever allow your password to be given to jnxt.org in the first place, so minimal trust is assured.

Any step by step videos yet?  Wink
