Finally an ICO worth investing in. Smiley
Truly a WIN-WIN solution that breaks the stalemate between advertisers and ad blockers.
The core team behind this project has tremendous experience in this environment and further boosts my confidence in this project.
I can’t wait to be part of this exciting revolution.

Holy moly that red hurts my eyes.

I agree that oyster is a nice project trying to break the monopoly these advertisers have on the internet revenue at the moment

At first, I was not too thrilled with the name chosen, but now I find it suiting! What would be more fitting than an oyster to contain your jewels? I have never felt safe with cloud storage. Especially sending my sensitive documents and fun photos that my girlfriend sends me to big players like apple. Too often do we see storages hacked and photos leaked.

I have large holdings and belief in Iota and Ethereum. I trust it Vitalik Buterin and am glad to see this as a contract on the Ethereum blockchain. Files moving to storage will be insanely fast and cheap once running on Iotas tangle. The anonymity and peer to peer upkeep of Oyster bring ease to mind about the thought of storing my Independent business documents in. Very happy to be alerted of this product through airdropalert.com. Will be putting a few of my ether in this one bois Smiley

Readed the whitepaper, its impressive and I got to read it 1 or 2 times more to understand the whole concept.

A question what i didn't find or understand in the whitepaper is where all the data is storages.

The data will be stored on the IOTA tangle.  The clients are used for interaction with the tangle.  The tangle has some scalability challenges ahead but is one possible decentralized storage solution.  Oyster combines IOTA tangle for storage with and Ethereum token to pay people who interact with the tangle on behalf of website hosts to store their data.

Am I understanding somewhat correctly?
Thank for explain, grants a parallel revenue stream to websites by adding one line of code, Just watch their video , Finally I understand what is oyster, iota - oyster - , interest oyster project right now , invest some token to hold for long term 👍

Hail Eris!
I love the concept but worry about uptake and privacy?

Have subscribed as would love to keep in the loop to see how this is adopted by the market.

Thanks

What concerns do you have about privacy?  Anonymous decentralized storage leads to greater data privacy as a website no longer has to trust a decentralized source for data storage while reducing the influence of advertisers should lead to less data gathering as data gathering is primarily used by advertisers.

As for concerns about user letting Oyster use the clients machine resources - this is a concern with any peer to peer technology and but has not stopped the progression and evolution of robust and secure peer to peer networks.  For example, there were concerns about Ethereum's virtual machine.  Like the other serious decentralized storage contenders the source code is being made public and will be reviewable by the community and if there are problems so be it.

I am assuming Oyster will be an 'opt in' situation (or one where they have to install something) for those who want to use it rather than forcing those who don't to opt out which would let users choose the risk.

I'm very interested in this project. I have several websites but I really hate advertising, so I'm looking forward to trying Oyster to monetize the sites.

pretty slick concept! do you have a bitcointalk thread for airdrops and bounties?

Airdrop is limited and exclusive for people that already signed up at airdropalert.com, so it is no longer available.

Your introduction video does a great job at explaining the basic concept, although for webmasters (especially ones who are unfamiliar with blockchain technology), it'd be great if you could elaborate on the implementation of the code snippet. Also, for those without in-depth knowledge on blockchain-based advertising possibilities, it'd be good to draw comparisons between Oyster and similar projects such as the Basic Attention Token. Thank you.

You can read about the comparisons with BAT from here: https://blog.icoalert.com/ico-alert-report-oyster-ffda53924db6

ICO Alert: Other than combining multiple features, what makes Oyster better than competition who are also trying to revolutionize the storage or advertising space?

Oyster: Oyster competes with other projects on two fronts, website monetization and decentralized storage. I contest that it is better on both of those fronts, I will first explain the website monetization aspect. The most well-known example of a token that attempts to solve the issues of the digital advertising industry is BAT (Basic Attention Token). The BAT team designed their own browser called Brave, which tracks user attention to advertisements.

The first issue with BAT is the unrealistic expectation that any significant number of users would ditch Google Chrome and other popular web browsers to install Brave. The user is more likely to simply install Ad Block Plus instead of switching to Brave. With Oyster, deployment is simple as website owners need only add one line of code without having to go through any registration nor approval. The Oyster network is completely decentralized so no one can block them from generating revenue. The Oyster web client is easy to access without requiring large software changes on behalf of the user.

The second issue with BAT is that adverts are still distracting and invasive. These ads take up precious pixel space, often break the content and design continuity of websites, and are rarely politically neutral. Adverts must always be manually interpreted and approved for ethics compliance, therefore the system can never be fully decentralized. In contrast, adding Oyster to a website only shows a small notice for user consent therefore respecting the aesthetics and neutrality of the website.
