The network did not consider the coins valid to begin with.
Some upgrades to the pool software to verify they're mining on the correct chains might be required to prevent this in the future.

I am noticing a lot more banned IP addresses today and large fluctuations in difficulty recently...
Below shows a lot of orphan blocks on the network too... slowing down the official block explorer at the moment.
