Far more people would get involved if a CPU based coin only. And the testnet wallet was working just fine? I don't understand why you would disable CPU mining Huh

If you want, you can enable CPU mining by using 'siac', a command line tool provided in the release. You're highly unlikely to find any blocks though.

GPUs, even slow ones, are 10x - 50x as fast as the fastest CPUs, even overclocked i7s
Yes I realize the difference in mining lol, been at this for over 3 years Smiley But what caught my eye was the fact it WAS CPU, we don't need more GPU coins, and will hinder the growth of SIA and the storage availability feature, which is the goal.

I know right, my graphics card is no good but my CPU is very very good, before it was all user friendly but I don't know what happen now.... I'm confused.
Yes I was thinking last night how ingenious this wallet was, with the click of a button you were up and running and mining. Had I known CPU was going to be disabled I would not have wasted my time. We need a good CPU based wallet/mining system as was first tested? I am really turned off now ...

So after all that no tutorials or anything to help people setup their wallets and miners, nice Roll Eyes

This just seems very unorganized.

Thanks for volunteering.

In all seriousness though, there are not very many of us and there's a lot of work that goes into starting a currency. It takes a lot of time and effort, and in the crunch before launch we had to set priorities. Tutorials and such will be out in the coming weeks. Also, you'll get plenty of help if you drop by the slack or our irc channel.

Little bit harder to give the polished look, when your project didn't start @ coingen i guess.

I think the sw is designed to be idiot proof though from what ive seen.

How many is a good amount of threads to have open?

CPU mining is now disabled; it's not going to be very useful when some of the GPU miners are getting 20x and 50x improvements over CPU speeds.

Linux + Mac Miners (compiled by us): https://github.com/NebulousLabs/Sia-GPU-Miner/releases/tag/v1.0

Windows Miner (compiled by a third party - use at your own risk!): http://siacoin.com/dist/sia-gpu-miner-win64.zip

Wallets to be released in the next minute or two.

Waiting word from dev for new wallet DL or if we can use the "update" button in existing wallet, that would be nice  Wink

Update button won't work  Sad (sorry)

I won't be fooling with GPU mining at least for now. Wait and see if any coin value first. Electricity cost just about kills it. So, I have several CPU's ready for new wallet.

So far on test net I have mined 11 blocks in about 12 hours. Most of that with one thread. ran 3 threads for about 2 hours right after installing wallet. Then turned off 2. So about 6 blocks were found with the one thread. 2937407 SC now, too bad we can't keep them lol

Looks like I can add bunches of threads in the testnet wallet miner.
